Wow. Nathan's summary ...was excellent. My love for church history was the result of a 50 page magazine insert in our National Newspaper in 1999. All the famous Patristic influences were there. Jerome Augustine and Aquinas really stood tall for me. Since then...just a lot of others. John Hus is probably the most unheralded.

Interesting biblical experts that forget God's-writers' Hebrew mind-set had much to say about the 'divine nature', and then church history, for English-speaking believers, begins with William Tyndale, surely chosen by God for the task of translation.

So then the Catholic Erasmus had to be similarly chosen, since he compiled the Greek text Tyndale used. Also, Wycliffe must have just been playing around with his translation, since he was forced to use the Latin Vulgate as his base text.

The book 'Long before Luther' tells us many things: (1) history and current role in our present times (2) reformed church (3) interaction with other Christians about the time from Christ to the Reformation & (4) unmerited favor in teaching of grace alone.
