@Krazycoriyann18

I second this. How you break down Taylor's demonstrations by looping and rewinding two to three second increments rather than doing a whole demonstration and replaying it is way easier to identify what you're talking about. This is easily my biggest qualm with most of the how-to videos out there: they show the whole thing normal speed, then once in slow motion, whereas I'd rather see the narration isolated and just looped like you guys did. Thanks a bunch. Hopefully I'll stop tearing my rotater cuff...

Practice it standing on the floor. Repeat the movements and learn them. Once you learned them star again, but jumping for spike. At first, do it without a ball to hit, and then add one when you are sure that your swing mechanics are good

same. when i jump i arch my back and lead with my hips, then when i swing i flex my back and push the ball from behind me to down. it worked at first but i hurt my back from overuse and now i’m trying to fix it because i can’t swing like i used to :’). moral of the story, if something’s wrong with your swing fix it early!! not just for productivity but to save yourself from potential injuries.

Wow I've been really hitting wrong all this time. Maybe thats why my shoulder feels like it's burning off after open gym, and that my friend who's jumps as high as I do, and around the same strength seems to just pound the ball so much harder than I do. Damn..... Thanks so much for the tutorial, great video. Time to retool my swing.

Hey, just wanted to say thank you for this video. I used to over rely on my vertical and pay little attention to other parts of a proper attack, and I am devastated when my knee suddenly lock up after a jump. Since I’m still waiting for results of my MRI, i can only play with protective gears that severely limited my vertical. It got so bad I felt like I might not be able to play volleyball anymore. Which is when I came across this video. Your explanation and slow mo broke it down so well I managed to fix my arm swing within two weeks. Just in time for my school tournament and managed to contribute to my team despite the injuries. I cannot convey how thankful I am, really. Thank you

This... I wish I had this 20 years ago. Surprisingly technical but clear explanation. I probably could’ve saved myself some injuries with this knowledge.

Sometimes like now I'm so sorry that there's only one word for "thank you" and it's "thank you"😂 because I would like to express my gratitude with some more telling word. These videos really help me to understand how exactly to move my body, legs and arms because the explanations are clear and it's really useful that you mention how to prevent injuries. I'm 10th grade and have liked volleyball since maybe 8th grade and this year I'm part of the school volleyball club and I wish I have found your channel earlier because sometimes the teacher can't explain everything at once, there are other players too, everyone's on different level and she just can't advise only me. So this is like an individual training for me, respectively the part where you explained how not to injure the arm was totally on place because no more than 2 weeks ago I kind of began to spike really good and the trainer said that I make progress really fastly, praised me for improving well, so I thought that I have say so "mastered" the attack until the next morning I woke up with some pain in the right shoulder, few days after I even couldn't raise my arm and now I understand why this accident happened. I love watching compilations like this one kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3uTamufdtehps0 and I certainly noticed some of the things you mentioned in the video but when you explained it step by step and said what exactly is attained with every movement, together with the slow motion review it all made sense and everything became so... clear😯. Also it's great that the videos aren't too long, I get the point easily, having in mind that English isn't my mother language. In short thank you so much, greetings from Bulgaria❤

Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing. One thing I would recommend adding though is more explanation on the “how, where & why” to finish with the lead hand. After he pulls he gets it pressed to his body to prevent over rotation, giving him more control over the hit. A lot of kids will pull the lead hand down, but let it continue to dangle. I started emphasizing this a few years ago with the kids I work with and it helps keep them from taking that “statue of liberty” approach”” and it’s made a huge difference in helping them build those good habits at a younger age.

You dont need to be big to be able to hit hard, it doesnt matter the sport, learning how to move your body and transferring the energy to the ball is the most important. I have a friend who is a gym rat, dude is swole af, weights 180 i think, im a skinny ass dude who weighs 140, and i hit 5 times harder than he does, because i have a better swing and loose, he is stiff when he swings.

@ferencpal7994 4 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right, what matters is how to transfer the energy. How to give momentum to the ball? Be your hand the fastest when hitting the ball. That's why the "mechanics" should start from your main body, then shoulder, upper arm, lover arm. Then right after the touch your wrist comes , to pull the hit down. It is like a cow whip.
@markdixon392
@markdixon392 5 жыл бұрын
I have used the "trebuchet" as the analogy for the arm and wrist. All straight at the moment of contact, with a fast wrist multiplying the velocity. Then of course, "thumb up" and "thumb down" to steer the ball (and hide it from bockers) instead of using your shoulder.

Breakdown what you did right and wrong, starting with serve receive to setting to the batter's box to arm swing. Then to the defense of blocking calls, positioning, and the strike zone. Even what your mindset should have been during a frustrating game.

You guys are cool. And the "Bug" can Hit. I coach 7th grade girls. And the porblem with them is timing. I asked them why do you choose to Hit at a game when it has been set perfectly and you choose to freestanding hit. The answered " Cause we don't want to miss and look stupid at a game in front of the spectators, family or friends. WOW! So you rather take the chance for the other tem to score and look better? That was my reply. So, I tried multiple ways when to start your approach as the ball touches the hands of the setter. But they still stutter step and that's is one of the reasons the timing is off. After I see this video I liked how you both explained the steps and it's purpose ( which I have to do coaching the level of youth volleyball. I know its not me. And I know that most of my girls (if they try much more harder) can execute this main feature of volleyball. You might have already Ade a video of this cause I have not had a chance to scroll thrill of the yet. But if you have time , ideas and or suggestions that can help me explain it to them much better. I would appreciate it and will run the drill at our practices. Keep up the good work and thank you. Coach Jeff

hi again ...i saw you favourited my comment thanks but i'm a bit confused ...does this mean that in a NON ideal set of the ball (let's say far behind the net but still able to spike) do you perform the same technique??? cause like i mentioned my spikes end up on the net unless i gently pass the ball over the net..i know that's an option but how do you make this harder for the opponent? i'd appreciate an answer out of your experience so i could practice on that more because you know many times you won't have one partner or even if you do the set of the ball might not be ideal everytime thanks again :)

Another great explanation. Especially at the 4ish mark on the sequential impact all those individual mechanics make! Question? ... So we play often in a park that is infamous for the depths of it's sand (you'd swear there are sand ppl hiding waiting to grab you by the ankles) and the heights of it's net (+3-5 inches above regulation). How much value do you see in consistently training/playing on higher nets? Should we lower to regulation? Looking forward to seeing videos on the dynamics of playing in the wind at the beach. Here in south florida our winds can change drastically in different directions during a match.

MCKB Volleyball ok that's what i've been thinking. Most of us are competing at a AAA level and even though we have had success, the gap between aaa/open still seems significant. Mainly because of the speed and aggression of the game... 70/30 shots to spikes ratio grind out games is what usually takes place here. I believe this would help the group lvl up their game... Some guys wear the whole higher net thing as a badger of honor though.😲

Should I also use my arm(tricep) to power through the ball or should the arm be relaxed all the way until contact just transferring the power from the core? Also, is this same technique used during shots? I find when I whip my core during shots I lose a lot of control. Finally, I love your all's videos, it's so hard finding good beach volleyball tutorials on the internet.

Great video! waiting for another one and it can describe the power serve. As far as i understand the movement is pretty similar, but your jump may not be straight up^ but also forward, giving the ball even more speed

Excellent! Now, talking about the ball position, where should a player hit the ball better, slightly charged to the hitting arm or right in front on the body center line, in front of the head? I've been wondering this for a while.

Great video, very helpful!! My shoulder flares up pretty quickly after few bad swings. Any additional routines or drills (strengthening exercises, stretches etc) to improve the mechanics & minimize shoulder pain?

I think it would be helpful to add the final element of steering the ball with the wrist... thumb up = line, and thumb down = cross (hitting on the left of course). I have seen a lot of players steer with the shoulder which is hard on the rotator cuff and is easier for a blocker to read.
