Yeah, a few weeks ago, I was about 8 miles from home and wanted one more order. I get one for 8 miles and $12 and the area looks close to home. Turned out to be a hotel at the end of my street. Was home 30 seconds after my last delivery. So I got paid to go home too.

I deliver in a large sparsely populated area and they regularly send me close to home near the end of my shift. Business has definitely dropped off dramatically. Because I’m full time I take advantage of the off peak times and am actually doing better than I was when any random dasher could easily get on.

A regular 9-5 is the way to go. You can DD after work and don’t accept anything under $1 a mile. Pay debt as fast as possible. Once it’s paid, you can drop DD and the budget your salary from your job. In my opinion.

DD has been awful lately. I had a 99% approval rate and 70% acceptance rate. I was getting every 2.00 order which killed my acceptance rate and now down to 54%. I am not driving 6.8 miles for 2.00. People are horrible about tipping too. I am not out here to give away my time and gas. I have made much less money lately and getting fewer orders.

When I was 36, I ending up needing heart surgery rather urgently. I was dying. Heart surgery #1. A month later, the doctors stopped my heart twice. Do you know what my biggest regret was? Working for 4 years in a nasty, toxic environment where I felt like I was going to throw up every day. None of us are promised a tomorrow. My advice would be to try to find another steady job because life is too short to be miserable for most of the hours in the day, but I know you have responsibilities so I would wait until you have something else lined up. Best of luck to you!

Just this week, while Doordashing: my battery died, needed to buy a new battery. I had a flat tire and needed fix a flat and to add 40 lbs to my tire. The same day, I got stuck in 6 inches of snow my last customer’s driveway. And yesterday, my car just died. Battery is fine, I believe it is the starter, car needed towed to my house from my last dash I had just delivered. I was suppose to get two new tires on in the morning, which has been postponed until I get the new starter put in hopefully tomorrow. So, in one week, doordashing has cost me at least $600….. 3 years of doing doordash, and it just all finally caught up with my car. Be prepared for weeks like this!

Life should not be about working yourself into an early grave. Kiss the stressful job goodbye. If I remember correctly you've already got some stress-related illnesses. Even if you don't make it with delivery work, you'll find something else that matches your lifestyle. Your kids need you, NOW! My motto in life is: Never regret a decision. You made the best choice based on the information you had at the time. Go for it and don't look back. Good luck! You'll be okay!

Hey Meaty Mama, if you wanna try this full-time, keep in mind, it's putting more burden on your car. Just have a backup plan if your car needs to be serviced for anything. Other than that, I guess it doesn't hurt to try it out. Slow day? It's normal in January. Wait til people get their tax returns. Also, be careful with taking more than two orders at a time. All it takes is the last pick-up order not being ready while other order(s) in your car getting cold, or the first drop-off customer giving you the wrong address, very stressful! Other than that, I wish you the best!

I literally just had my 7th week in a row over 400 dollars. Va Beach VA here. Here's the deal....you have to not care about your acceptance rates people. Just focus on pleasing the customer, stay in communication with them at all times unless they tell you to f off. Just take nothing but 2 dollars a mile, and nothing under 5 dollars. That's it. If they aren't coming through, go home. I've gone home early MAYBE a couple times and I've dashed almost every night since Dec 17th. I make from $40 to $100 just working 6-10pm. No longer, no shorter. Most nights are well above $50, closer to like $80-$100. Not sure what to tell everyone else. I'm killing it with DD.

I am a DD, Uber, Spark driver. I can say that mostly I can make at least 20 an hour DD. I don't like how Uber does the price with tip, then you have to wait for the tip. Spark isn't my favorite. The whole waiting game, on pick ups. The sending me to a pick up that the order is long gone, giving me a couple of dollars for the time and gas for those. That is a sure way to go negative fast. Lol. I love the freedom. I take my kids. Both are older. We turn it into a fun time. I don't like being idle. If it is slow we do something else. DD has been paying less no doubt. I allowed my top dasher to go away. Which means, I see shedule a time...A LOT. UGH. I love your video. Thanks for sharing.

I find it is a 50/50 with college kids tipping. I drive a lot of students. When I recognize the name as a non-tipper, I cancel. Campus pick ups take time because you have to drive slowly thru campus, and cannot park on campus to wait for another ride. Security is vigilant at 'my' campus work area. Therefore, you have 1.5-2 dead miles getting out again & parking.

Go for it, but set aside an extra cushion for the slow months. If the other job is affecting your health, it is not worth it! The problem is that if all the apps decide to make all the tips mediocre, delivery drivers will just be forced to work twice as hard for mediocre money because I bet they know how far they can push you. It's out of your control. They can dictate what you do and for how much and know how far they can push people before everyone stops accepting the jobs, and there will always be someone willing to do it for slightly less.

Mileage on the stack: When you get the 2nd order, it milage is from the stoer (5 guys) to their house). But when you deliver the first order, you are now at a different location, so the mileage has increased if it was in a different direction from the first order. I recall you saying it in your last video on the order but I didn’t comment but since it happen again, I thought I’d mention this as a possible reason why the mileage is different.

I did delivery full time this summer. I, too, am in Florida. The heat was brutal and it progressively became worse in two areas (two counties). Very inconsistent and very poor tips. Yes, the orders were upside down in the ratio compared to money and miles. I was working 14 to 16 hours per day most days. Then had to reduce it back, and I was just exhausted. ESpecially, from the heat. You will not have time at home with your kids to make the money That you may need for your bills. The inconsistency started stressing me out too much. Pray about it, and I wish you the best in your decision.

I do not think you should do gig work full time. It's very unreliable. If the companies decide to deactivate you, you're done. If orders suck for weeks, you may not earn what you need. At the bare minimum, have a normal part time job and do gig work. Then you have some base income to rely on.

Regarding gig delivery. Commercial insurance is legally required. I just got off the phone - a 35 minute call - for a minimal insurance quote over and above my existing policy. $557 for 6 months. I know several people who do this and none of them have commercial insurance. You will not make $30/hour. It's just not reality. This is my state, your mileage may vary depending on where you live. I did one company for a a few months. It's a tipped job, you might as well be a wait-person at Dennys. Regarding amazon flex, it's a low income job, and you are paying for gas/tires/oil changes etc. I know because I worked 1.5 years at an amazon delivery station, and know exactly what the drivers get paid. And they could be sent long distances away before the first delivery-literally 40 miles in one direction (uncommon but not unheard of). Proceed with caution on these gig jobs. Just being real here.

I will say I dash about 30 hours a week between 6 days. I make at the end of the day about $50. and I do per offer never by time. Today I sat for an hour then took an offer for $8.75 going 5 miles. When I delivered the Panda Express the customer had tile steps and it was raining. Needless to say after handing the order to the lady I turned to step off the porch and there went my feet right out from under me and down on my ass I went. I got up and the lady was so afraid I was hurt. I am going to feel it tomorrow, have some bruising on my ass but it could have been worse. I just hope it doesn't end up on KZbin doordash delivery videos. lol She had a ring doorbell. I am about your size Meaty Mama. lol I say this because you never know what will happen to take you out of commission for a period of time, then where will the income come from? As you know being independent contractors we have to cover everything no workers comp. I am looking for a W2 job. I can't keep doing this expecting something to change. That is the definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over expecting a different outcome. I am done being Doordashs slave. Good luck to you.

The economy is slowing down, and people don't have as much money. So, they don't have that much extra to tip. Yeah, I did DD for a while, and it's such a waste of time and money. Not worth it, because you get paid nothing to do lot of work. DD is robbing people. And, there's no expense income devoted to your vehicle, so you're setting yourself up for a lot of future repairs. Plus, you are selling your time at such a low rate of money. I did it a while, and it's a waste of my life and time. Never again.

It sounds tough being a dasher. I ordered pizza, garlic bread and wings from a small mom and pop pizza chain. I was emailed a $5 off coupon if you spend $20, after placing my order during the checkout process they up the delivery charge to $4 verses $3 and upped the charge for the food by one dollar. So, I saved $3 instead. I planned on spending a certain dollar amount and giving a $4 tip. The driver is a w-2 minimum wage employee and in CT, our minimum wage is now $15.69 so it's not that bad for the driver. I just put on a $2 tip and it was delivered promptly. I ordered during a non-meal time hour usually. I put in an extra $1, so the driver would have a $3 tip opposed to $2, I originally planned on a $4 tip. The extra 2 $1 charges wasn't expected, I didn't ordered any extra sauces, so the charges shouldn't have gone up. Greedy company.

If you are going to do this full-time tread carefully because I’m going to be really real with you. I’m not a content creator I’m not a gig tuber I don’t look for views to make money. That way to be honest with you. It’s very inconsistent now I’ve had W-2s in the past it is OK to have your freedom and work when you want and do what you want that is the best feeling of all most of the comments in here are right about having money set aside for car repairs oil, changes, tires, etc. now I am blessed with car maintenance because I can do those stuff on my own Like the oil changes and brakes so I save big bucks there as far as tires make sure you back yourself up go to Walmart and buy tires and have the road hazard warranty that way if you pick up something like a nail or a screw or anything that’s on the road you are covered. All you have to do is go to Walmart and they will plug your tire for free, they also give you lifetime balance and lifetime rotation. Make sure you get those two things done every oil change do not skip that. That way you are saving money on tires like I said before it is very inconsistent. Some days are horribly horribly bad some days are decent and some days are really good Yesterday I was out for about five hours and made 30 on DoorDash and 15 on Uber eats I could’ve stayed out longer yes but it was just so slow that I was wasting my time out there so you got to put that in perspective and honestly, it really depends on your market my market is OK sometime the traffic here is completely horrible. You have to put that to play as well. I did DoorDash full-time last year in 2023 well the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023 I threw in the towel and went back to a W-2 Because it was just OK. The summer slow down is a real thing. My opinion is to keep your acceptance rate above 70 or hover around that to try to keep busy for the slow down and honestly it should start picking up in a couple more weeks mid February that’s when people most likely get their tax refunds back so they will be ordering in a lot. I’m currently doing DoorDash and Uber eats full-time right now. I’m waiting for a W-2 to get back with me. It’s only been a few days since I’ve went there and applied but I guess we will see but I’m going to tell you right now, it is very inconsistent. My completion rate is 96% and my acceptance rate is a little bit over 50%. My ratings are horrible on Uber eats because all I get is trash orders but I will tell you this multi app has saved me a couple of times, so keep that in mind if one app is slow focus on the other one they are both slow and that’s all the apps that you have then get ready for a horrible day. Keep in mind when you are slow and there’s no orders coming through sit in a parking lot by a restaurant Roll your window down turn off your car do not burn gas because honestly you could sit there for a half hour waiting for an order to actually come through or wait for the right one that makes you money. I see a lot of DoorDash drivers keep their vehicle running, and sometimes they sit there as long as I do or longer, that’s stupid to keep your car idling wasting gas and honestly it’s not very good to let your car sit there in idle you will go through oil changes like crazy and another thing is keep track of your miles like you do or should be doing because without the W-2 You are on your own with taxes at the end of the year most of us drive more miles than we make so we break even and get a tax refund back and I’m really gonna be honest with you on this one. You will work seven days a week because some of those days that you think that you’re going to go out and make good money like on a Tuesday or Wednesday, those days really aren’t worth driving but like I said, every market is different learn your market learn which days to go out what time to go out and how much time you spend out there to make the most money I work six days a week I will not go out on Sunday. Also get ready to fill up about three times a week on fuel if you have a Costco or Sam’s Club membership, I would definitely start using that Murphy’s gas station in my market usually is cheap on gas. I tried to make it to my Sam’s Club in the market that I dash because it’s very cheap, but just keep in mind of the things that I’m telling you because I’m honestly being real with you. I’m not a gig tuber I don’t do content I don’t do none of that crap I’m not out here to make views I’m not out here to tell you what to do I’m not out here trying to say that you should do it or you shouldn’t Choice is ultimately yours but I’m telling you right now you will have slow days and it will aggravate you and honestly you will start to wonder how much money you’re gonna make today every time you get up but if you’re strong enough you can do it I just spent $300 on new tires But like I said, if you go to Walmart and get the road hazard and warranty on the tires that you put on your car, it will save you money in the long run and remember to put a little bit of money aside for taxes you don’t have to put a large amount because obviously you’re gonna drive more than what you make. I’m just gonna let you know that right now, I’ve been doing this for a while to know this when you go to do your taxes do not do TurboTax you need to go to a tax accountant. They will help you at the end of the year so they will give you maximum deductions and possibly get a little bit of money back and if not, then possibly you don’t owe and that’s the whole deal right there not owing so just keep that in mind things will be slow because so many people are struggling like I said before I’m waiting on this W-2 to get back to me because it has been so slow out here and I travel to go and make my money. Hopefully you have a strong market but that’s me just being real with you. Good luck.

Things to consider you could try it for a week, but it will have ups and downs, driving full time puts an immense amount of wear on the vehicle which will require more maintenance/emergency if car goes down. Then consider health care, taxes will all be on you. even @ 12 hours a day going to maybe break even if taking 1$/mile orders going to have to get really picky, but after watching your videos for lil while doesnt look like that is much of an option. Just to give you few things to think about. Hope all goes well.

As more drivers sign on, the pay is getting lower. You have NO control over the # of orders you receive. Or whether the offers are worth taking. As you know, new sign ups get the best offers for first 30 days.

This is my first video of yours and I don't know where you are, but could you consider doing early morning airport runs 5-9 or 10, M-F? They tend to be really great money and easy trips. It's all business travelers with expense accounts who don't mind tipping, and don't bother you much because they're already working on their phone or tablets. Then mid morning 'granny' or 'mommy' runs to appointments and errands. That could be the end of it, or go home, take a nap, do some cleaning, come back out for a little late lunch early dinner runs if you're up to it. This was a great schedule in Atlanta, granted it's the busiest airport in the world. 🤣🤣

True story. A married couple I know quit their W-2 jobs to become full-time Dashers. They made out great during the pandemic like everyone else. Buy every year since 2020 got steadily worse. I asked one of them, the wife, how they even were able to schedule in DD, because I had stopped trying since 2022. She told me she and her husband were top dashers, that's why they were able to schedule. So they ran one car into the ground, which you will do working for these food platforms, and bought a new car with monthly payments. But they didn't count on 2023 being such a brutal year for food delivery apps. They had become dependent on DD and when the rug was pulled out from under them, they were in a world of hurt. The stress of this caused her to have a stroke last year.
