Probably because (in the BBC at least) it's a required minimum to have at least one woman per panel, and not only do they try to only have one woman wherever possible, they only ever invite the same well-known faces. Fern Brady could be running her own show like Russell Howard, but until Mock the Week give her a call, she'll be waiting a damn long time.

@@RK-ep8qy Katherine Ryan is funny, just a bit repetitive, and unfortunately, the only way to really become a recognised name in comedy in the UK is to do stints on panel shows. That's how Russell Howard paid his dues on Mock the Week, that's how Rob Beckett and Roisin Conarty are paying their dues with 8/10 Cats Does Countdown, and Fern Brady may well have to do the same thing if she wants to really get famous. Comedy/Entertainment is a seriously sexist business at the best of times, and not only would she have to put in twice the work to get half of the recognition, they only make room for one or two women at a time (see: the one woman per panel minimum rule). While Katherine Ryan is having her moment, there isn't room for Fern because they won't make room for more than one woman. Plus, could you imagine how many men would revolt if they actually fixed the gender disparity in comedy?

I don't know if she's ever toured the US this is literally the one of the first times I've heard of her I agree with a lot of the comments and I'd go see her if she ever came up to Spokane or Seattle Washington ! My stepfather was Irish and it was like being yelled at by a 7-foot leprechaun ! 07/06/19 Spokane WA ! And her accent is a trip ! Thanks for posting and performing !!!!
