One of my favorites - must have been on it at least 20 times during the past 2 years. One of the few coasters in which first row feels better. The force you feel (especially during rain with an empty train) is insane. Even the banked turns in the end are really great and the entire ride from lifthill to station is a lot of fun. A pure masterpiece which seems to improve over time.

The Olympia Looping is a great roller coaster. I have been on quite a few roller coasters - higher ones, faster ones, newer ones, more fancy ones - but still I love the Olympia Looping. And remember that it's already 25 years old!
@BloodFromStoneRocks10 жыл бұрын
That is absolutely scary that this ride is not a permanent structure. It's taken apart and taken to fairs like a carnival ride.
@sunstarfire10 жыл бұрын
It's not. First of all, it's Germany. It's engineered through and through. And then we do have the concept of these fairs here, which travel, like the Oktoberfest. Building the beer tents on the Oktoberfest place starts about 3 months before the Wiesn even begins. The rides arrive about a week before the start, depending on their size, and there is something called the TÜV, and they walk all over the place and look at every single ride and give their seal of approval. It's perfectly safe. Here in Germany we only have very few theme parks with stationary rides. Europapark in Rust is one. There is a park in Geiselwind, Legoland close to Guenzburg, and I am sure there is a couple more.
@aaron.030310 жыл бұрын
Actually it's probably safer being taken down and reconstructed every few weeks, that way it gets inspected a lot more often. Permanent rides at theme parks in America are only required to be inspected (by state authorities) every 6 months, but state authorities have to inspect fair rides before every fair begins, and usually every day of a fair.

How safe are these travelling coasters? They must go through an immense amount of wear and tear from always being torn down and they rebuilt
@Turboflabs11 жыл бұрын
In theory the parts are easier to service compared to a fixed coaster and you can spot bad joints and damaged bolts a lot faster when you constantly need to reassemble the thing. However, I have seen some traveling coasters in poor condition so it all depends on the carny. This ones looks verry well maintained though
@Dheyjin11 жыл бұрын
This coaster is running for 25 years now and never had any major accidents. We have a technical inspection agency, that's on location when it's rebuild, and unless they are totally fine with everything, noone is going on this thing. I luckily live in a city that hosts this coaster nearly every year and I've been on it countless times, since I was a child. It's the longest travelling coaster in the world, the only one with five loops and during peak hours, there are five trains running simultaniously.

I thank TPR forever for giving me the opportunity to ride this in Munich. These days, I must take care of my mom as she deals with the big C, ( I would not be any other place, even through the toughest days), so it may be a long while before I get the chance to take advantage of a TPR trip (Always hopeful). When I am down, thinking back to this adventure, helps the day go by a little easier. And, this, this coaster is just perfect to me, a real work of art. Day, night, in the rain, even better. Operations to shame most theme parks. It is kept in perfect condition. For a moment, I even talked to the staff and they were so friendly and proud. If you ever get a chance, do not hesitate to leap at the opportunity. The ride is pretty old now, and the cost to transport is pretty high. You just never know what the future holds, believe me.

When you said "traveling", I thought you were being metaphorical, in the sense that riders would "travel around the world" via the loops... representing the Olympian Games from around the world... But I get it now. ^^;;;; I'm surprised this is a traveling coaster. It's so massive, it seems like it should belong in one park till another buys it, like other coasters. It looks amazing and I'd love to ride it! Is there a site that lists its destinations and time frames?

If Schwartzkopfs "Tsunami" (or "Thriller") was still in operation (apparently this year is was not reassembled in 2017 and its in storage, but was running last year in Mexico) why isn't that also considered the largest traveling roller coaster? It was once capable of giving riders up to 6gs. The lift hill wasn't as tall as this coaster but it was faster. Can someone clarify why it is never mentioned as one of the largest traveling coasters? It looks so much scarier than this coaster does.

I live in munich, so I have been on there during the octoberfest a lot.. I think it's really boring haha compared to what I have been on in other theme parks around the world.. haha

I always find it amazing how this is a traveling coaster and not a a little zamparla galaxi coaster, this thing is great enough on it's own to be a standing permanent coaster for any big amusement park!

And it must take a LONG ass time to set up and take down >_< omg it must take long........

EpicEverythingDude75 seven days, ten people, a crane and two fork trucks to build, or take down.

Dheyjin holy crap that's a long time. Do you know if these are found in america at all?
@Dheyjin11 жыл бұрын
EpicEverythingDude75 Sadly i don't. I'm from Germany, and I live in one of the cities that hosts this coaster nearly every year. That's why I know it so well. It's the first coaster I've ever been on.

This is the coaster that Mindbender @ Galaxyland in West Edmonton Mall in Alberta Canada is based off of...Mindbender is a 3 loop reverse mirror image aka a Drierer Looping Coaster. The trains on this coaster are what the original pre accident trains on Mindbender looked like for those that are interested.

The roller coaster X2 at Six Flags Magic Mountain is the most intense coaster I have ever been on and was definitely worth the three hour wait in line!

Many years ago I went inside when I was a soldier in the Dutch Army in Germany during the cold war, in Hamburg, It;s massive and near the flag bunkers on st Paulie, it took them some days to build up (weeks).

There was a temporary roller coaster outside Sunway Lagoon in Kuala Lumper about 10 years ago that I went on. Form memory it was identical to this and was a great ride. I went back 2 years later but it had gone.

I rode this in 2005. The festival hosting it was in the big plaza in the center of Schweinfurt, Germany. It was the first roller coaster I ever rode that looped.

Neat. This is impressive for a traveling ride. In the states we have the Doppel Looping version which looks just like this but two loops.
