What a cool way to honour Dime's legacy. Even though I was literally like 2 when he was taken from us (thus I never grew up with Pantera/Damageplan), thanks to you and other KZbinrs like Ola Englund I've become a massive fan of Dime, his gear and sound. I have a similar setup, but I found the Master Effect Vulgar to be the weak link. It took me hours, but I still couldn’t get the setup right. So, I swapped it with a Randall RG13, which instantly brought the whole board to life. I added the ME EQFH non-pro version in the loop, and it got even better and I finally achieved the sound that I have been looking for. I ran the pedal board into Crate GX-130c which has stereo and chorus output. My signal chain is a ME EQ4H or EQFH Prod -> MXR 6 band -> Boss NS-2 -> RG13 -> ME EQFH -> Crate. It doesn't need any OD or Doubler in the chain. I have RG80ES, Century170 and DimeD100. My current setup with the RG13 is the most balanced and quietest.

@EricMorettin Жыл бұрын
@@Riffs_Tricks hard to say! I've read into both amps and the RG and Century have a lot of similarities between the two preamp sections which is what's been replicated with this pedal. We'll see what master effects will cook up.
@MasterEffectsPedals Жыл бұрын
@@Riffs_Tricksi've looked at all of those schematics and as far as the preamp is concerned they are basically the same. the two main differences are when you activated the sustain switch on the RG you had a big volume drop. the century added something to keep the volumes at unity when you turn the sustain switch on. the other difference is the mid boost switch which when turned off is the same as the rg and when turned on just adds a cap in the tone stack to shift the treble frequency a bit. otherwise everything else in the preamp sections are exactly the same and you shouldn't hear any difference between the two as far as preamp goes.

Hey Eric, I'm pretty new to using noise gates so the first one I decided to go with was the revv g8, what's your opinion on those? I'm just curious as to why you chose the electro harmonix over the g8 because revv seems to be a popular brand in your videos. Thanks!
@EricMorettin11 ай бұрын
Hey the Revv G8 is an awesome noise gate. I went for this one simply out of cost and the fact I got it in a trade with other gear at one point. Regardless, get a gate that has a loop (like the G8) and you're good to go!
@A-TeamRacing11 ай бұрын
@@EricMorettin right, I can see that. The g8 is about $200. I am running it thru my effects loop and in front of all my pedals. It does work awsome for stopping the hiss from the eq's but my only complaint is it does get a little choppy on some of those sensitive notes like harmonics and Dime squeals. Are all noise gates going to behave that way? I've played around with all kinds of settings and it seems to act the same. First of all respect for doing this. But I don't think the gain is there. I've tried myself to make a Dime patch using only an HX Stomp. It's very hard. I'd put the EQ after the Vulgar pedal. That's what needs shaped the most. I get your logic, treat Vulgar like a preamp. But what's coming out just isn't it. Grab a bunch a of clips and look at Dimes guitar under a spectral analyzer. You'll see some wild humps in the 700's if I remember correctly. These are clues. If you know how harmonic overtones work. You can do the math to reverse engineer what the true EQ should look like. I wouldn't use parametric EQ's for this unless you can adjust the Q curve. Always just 10 or 7 bands.

Have you modified your Boss TU-3 to tune to 425 Hz (or -60 cent) for Dimebag's tunings? Out of the box, the TU-3 only allows for reference pitch change between 436-445 Hz. For people who don't want to mod their tuner to tune to 425Hz, I can recommend Sonic Research Turbo Tuner ST-300 which has support for user-made custom tunings through computer software via USB from the pedal.

Did he quit using DRs at some point, I always used DRs 9-46 because that’s what he used in the 90s before he started really detuning on Trendkill, he used hi beams but DR still sells a Dimebag “custom” set high voltage and it was the only set of 9-46 DRs that I could get shipped in a reasonable amount of time so I paid an extra two dollars or so for Dimes mug on the packaging I’d hate to know his estate isn’t getting paid for that but I’ve tried other strings and they are the only ones that feel right on my old RG , I’ve always sorta thought a guitar especially a Floyd Rose setup to float sorta aged into a specific brand and gauge of strings you can change it and set it up but the guitar “prefers” the strings you’ve used the most consistent . I’m sure it’s just an all in my head thing and couldn’t be scientifically proven, but I definitely recommend picking a brand and gauge you like for your floating trems and stick with them so you don’t have to constantly adjust every time you restring the same gauge wrapped string can have significantly different shapes and sizes of core wires. DR always use to claim their 46 had the same mass as competitors 52 don’t know if it affects tone but they definitely feel a little stiffer to me than other brands 46 .
