I was born April 1990, 4 months after the 80s finished.. how’s that 😂. My dad got me into 80s hard rock/metal, my mum obviously listened to lighter stuff. But I also love this synth wave genre, reminds me of all those 80s teen movies, even some of the sci-fi movies like Bladerunner and Terminator
@thedudems5 жыл бұрын
If you ever buy the Midnight's albums, the inscriptions will tell you their concept is to make you feel a desire to return to "the good days" that you never actually experienced and probably never existed except in your mind. It's not that the 80s sounded like this or people all lived the way the song lyrics make them out to have lived, but you are to think that a time like this existed before, and you wish you could live in it even though you never will.

Would you believe there's actually NO guitar on this track? The guitar-ish sound you're referring to starting at 3:08 is actually a monophonic synthesizer? The Midnight use this same solo-synth technique throughout their catalog. Not to say they never use real guitar, but this track is ALL synth.

The Midnight is probably the best and most amazing musical find I've discovered in the last 20 years. I'm in my late 40's and aware of all the music greats of the last 50 years or so. Among my favorite artist and groups are Prince, Def Leppard, Duran Duran, Billy Idol, Journey, George Michael/Wham!, Phil Collins, Savage Garden and many more, I wish some of them would have made more music like this. The Midnight have got the heart, soul and 'feels' in their music.
@rokko_fable2 жыл бұрын
what's funny to me is some of this new music that takes very heavy inspiration from the past, is actually better than much of what it was inspired by. There was some great music to be sure, but quite of lot of older tunes that my parents listened to (60's 70's and 80's), even including those that still get radio play and are considered classics, have absolutely terrible lyrics (nonsensical or just bad or uninspired), or crap vocals or any number of failings. I guess just being and new and cool to young people at the time was enough. not saying all of today's music is better, far from it!

As malls become obsolete. I continue to go to them listening to this music. I sit down under the clear glass like roofs. A storm brews out side, longing for the love of my life that never comes. As the neon lights of stores flicker their last before shutting down forever to never return to offer the joy they once did. So to dose my hope for what I long for. Just like the show that I present to the world I must go on.

I was able to share endless summer with my father while he was on hospice. it brought him back to remember his teenage years and being a kid and it was something we both jammed out to when he died it took me a while to want to listen the midnight again.eventually i decided to just feel what i was going to feel and try to face the finality that ill never have those times with him again until i listened to the kids album i began to realize why i love these retrowave vibes of nostalgia from an era i never experienced. we were able to make fond memories with this and the sound of past memories and sharing the same feeling with a cycle of remembrance and created an ouroboros cycle of love and fond memories of a time past. does it hurt sometime sure, but i value them engraved in the fiber of my soul. ill see you again pops in some way shape or form well repeat the cycle. this has so much more meaning than i could have imagined... There is a Japanese term: Mono no aware. It means basically, the sad beauty of seeing time pass-the aching awareness of impermanence. These are the days that we will return to one day in the future only in memories.

This album art really speaks to me. It immediately brings the feelings of being in a mall in Florida in the 80s, July or August. It's hot an oppressively humid outside, but here you get the chill of the A/C on your sun-kissed face and exposed arms and legs. You have the comfort of a familiar place but the listlessness of a high-school summer; the cold of the air but the heat from being out in the sun. Satisfaction of time to kill, yet an undercurrent of anxiety as you know that the summer will eventually come to an end and school will pick back up. You see your friends lounging on some benches nearby. You want to go to them but your crush is there and a flush starts to creep in. The air is cold but you're hot again. It's time to make a move...you've been waiting for this...

The summer is just beginning. The lights of the game screens cut like swords through the dark arcade. You lean casually against the cabinet, watching as your best friend scrambles against time to beat his own high score. It's late now, and the arcade closes soon. This is the best run he's had. The 8-bit sounds, the soft pink glow: these are no match for her when she walks around the other edge of the cabinet. Your eyes widen. Your breathing halts. "Five minutes till we close, guys." She smiles. Like your friend's avatar, you're utterly slain. You say nothing, but your mouth falls open slightly. She notices. She raises an eyebrow, pauses. A new gentle smile. A hand through perfect hair. "We open at 9 tomorrow. See you guys then?" She looks right at you. "Maybe?" Then she is gone. And so, it is clear, are you. But the summer...the summer is just beginning.

En mi genera una extrañes, dónde dejando personas hermosas atrás producto de la vida y destino que uno elige... Yendo prácticamente solo, siguiendo ese camino para el bien propio y de los demás

Wow, they did it again! I've got that feeling of being back in the 80's. Thank you, The Midnight!

This song is my favorite song at the moment. It reminds me of when I met my Fiance and I was literally "lost" at the time and she fell in love with me at my worst time and was so supportive. Thank you The Midnight this sound really touched me.

This song is very touchy. Very good beat and vibes. I had this played on a 12' subwoofer, amp and tweeters. I play this song almost everyday!!!!

This is amazing. I almost have no words to describe how good i feel by listening to this song. You guys have Tyler Lyle's song remixed, "Lost & Found" - and last thing i expected (but hoped) was that Norwegian radio channels would play that song. I was driving my car home from work that evening, and when i heard the song i had to double check whether my phone was connected or not - and then i realised it was you guys. Live on norwegian radio. I am glad i had closed my windows and stopped at a busstop, because i was screaming of happiness, even cried i was so happy. Then I had to film my radio just to get it on tape, that you were live. I've been following you guys since you almost were new - and I sincerely hope that more of your songs comes on radio, so I can have more of my overly obsessed moments of joy hearing you being played. See you in Oslo in february!

This transcends 80's. It's like taking the 80's, breaking it apart, and making a masterpiece. So underrated. Thank you for your work. You're appreciated in the music world. x

Lyrics------------- We were the monsters and fire-breathers We were the quiet sunrise leavers You were a good girl, what could I do? I was a lost boy when I met you Hold me til I'm not lonely anymore It's only the crashing of the ocean to the shore Because in the dark the are no strangers There are no strangers at all 'Cause in the dark there are no strangers There are no strangers at all I was a lost boy when I met you I was a lost boy, a lost boy I was a lost boy when I met you I was a lost boy, a lost boy I was a lost boy There are no strangers at all I was a lost boy, a lost boy I was a lost boy when I met you I was a lost boy, a lost boy I was a lost boy There are no strangers at all We were the rebels, lone survivors We were the cult of deep sea divers We were young once then we grew old We were shining, we were fool's gold Hold me till I'm not lonely anymore It's only the crashing of the ocean to the shore Because in the dark there are no strangers There are no strangers at all 'Cause in the dark there are no strangers There are no strangers at all I was a lost boy when I met you I was a lost boy, a lost boy I was a lost boy when I met you I was a lost boy, a lost boy I was a lost boy There are no strangers at all I was a lost boy, a lost boy I was a lost boy when I met you I was a lost boy, a lost boy I was a lost boy There are no strangers at all Because in the dark there are no strangers There are no strangers at all (I was a lost boy) 'Cause in the dark there are no strangers There are no strangers at all (I was a lost boy) Because in the dark there are no strangers There are no strangers at all (I was a lost boy) 'Cause in the dark there are no strangers There are no strangers at all
