This band was the entirety of my wedding playlist for a marriage that crumbled and a future that sputtered out. I wound up in jail for nearly two years. She went her own way with a new guy and our son. I'd lay on my bunk and burn what little money I had just to listen to The Midnight. Now I'm out, I'm free, I'm doing okay I guess, but I'm lonely and I swear my cells are stuffed with sadness and pain and regret. Like as if the future I couldn't capitalize on is now steps behind me shouting and taunting. Recovery is tricky. This song smells like balloon fiesta with my then-wife. It looks like a glance toward the passenger seat as we headed into the mountains to camp a weekend. It tastes like a cheap dinner shared on a second hand coffee table. It sounds like the first cries of our son entering this world. It feels like a past I remember and love but a past that fits now in a box; a life I can't get back. A dimension I'll never be able to access ever again. Thank you both for your work because I'm not sure where I would be or what I would feel without you.

well I feel sorry for my whole entire community since Wave music is so unheard of down here where I live it's sad and pitiful. a lot of people in my town don't know what they're missing. I remember when I started off listening to synthwave discovered it on KZbin the very first track was collateral by the midnight. I think it was off their album nocturnal that instrumental drew me in quickly and I soon began to discover more synthwave groups been listening to it ever since and I love it. this is just another awesome song by the midnight.

it's funny, several years ago I went on a date with a woman and she was singing the lyrics to FM84s Running In the Night. Out of curiousity, I looked it up and listened, love the style of the music. I had no idea what retrowave was. Then the Midnight got suggested to me by the youtube algorithim. All these little turn of events that led to me discovering them. There is a lot of lyrical and story complexity to this that is not apparent the first couple listens but damned if this hasn't become a top 5 for me from Heroes once it all clicked. I also really love that Tim brought the panning "ding" synth sound he also used on Comet here. Something magical about it despite it's simplicity.

I had the exact same experience. Mindlessly listening to it the first few times, but then I started paying attention. I could really feel for this character and what they were going through. I was an absolute wreck after a couple more listens. Definitely one of the top songs of this album.

Currently listening on the cheapest dollar store headphones you can get. Lol But I wanted to comment that even despite your songs sounding a bit different than intended on my end, they still impact me just the same. I don't think you can realize how many times I've jumped around, slow-danced with myself, and generally made it through a make-or-break hard point because of the music playing on these things inspiring me. You never fail to lessen the burden and thank you for making me feel like I have a friend besides me when I'm at my most loneliest.

I've obsessively been in love with The Midnight from day one, and this latest Heroes album just cements the reality that they're only continue to get better and better and better. I realised listening to this song, over and over, gosh the whole album has been on repeat since it came out, that there are some really beautiful similarities in melody and mood to Death Cab For Cutie. If you ever tour together my organs are all relatively good condition and available for purchase. Spectacular. Absolutely spectacular. If you can feel your heart beat, you're not done yet, you can't be. Repeat it forever. Thank you for being more help than you'll ever comprehend.

Best song in the whole album, hands down. I don't know why, but "He left a hole the size of the world" hits hard. The lyrics seem simple, mundane almost, but the subtext of this widow single mom trying to make ends meet for the sake of her baby boy while doing her best to stay positive makes me tear up.

Imagine if a a new romantic/coming of age film was recorded in the style of a "new" John Hughes for our era, with The Midnight et al as the soundtrack. I'd literally spend the whole day in the Cinema wathcing it over and over. A film for the parents and the kids. To feel like that just one more time would be Heaven mixed with the slight edge of nostalgic pain that only experience and real art can give you. I hope.
