Breaking down the current MVP frontrunner and explaining the details of how Shai is dominating once again in the NBA.
I had to trim out a 12 second segment due to copyright at 10:08. It was just visuals of France vs Canada in the Olympics and explaining how not getting out of second gear cost them in the tournament.

They saw the title and clicked to learn the secret to play like SGA... they learned more "how to play in the best of themseves" according to their own style and their environments. In other words SGA's body and talent could be unique but fundamentals can be learned and work on by everybody... This level of realism (with that zest of humor) is what we thank you for 🙌🏿...

theres a reason the best players in the NBA are the best, fundamentals make players so much better. Shai is one of the best dribblers in the league and all he does it some tweens and behind the backs sometimes, most of his scoring is off 2 feet or easy open shots, he rarely takes tough shots. And he plays at his own tempo

I kind of disagree on the “lulling defender to sleep” take about shai. I think when he plays slow he is trying to manipulate the defence by easing a defender into an action, whether that's a pick and roll, etc… even at 100% effort shai’s body language and eyes direct to a predictable action causing u to believe that that's what's gonna happen until he changes pace to drive by easily. He sets this up by usually going through with that action so for the most part u wont know if its coming regardless of effort. Also 100% effort often gives tunnel vision at times so slowing down and being conscious of your surroundings a lot is very crucial. That's if the player is fundamentally sound ofc. Like protecting the ball from the defence, efficient movement, etc…
@themidrange
@themidrange 29 күн бұрын
That's also a characteristic of "lulling" the defense. You make them think they have everything is covered and set and that they can start looking ahead to the next action or next part of the play, then he quickly capitalizes. Lulling to sleep isn't only done by taking a ton of dribbles, harden does this but I much prefer the way Shai does it. And I agree, playing with too much effort can be bad and not enough effort can be bad. I would still say playing with too much effort is extremely easy to correct in comparison to the later. Effort =/= pace.

@themidrange

Be relentless with your driving. So by that, I mean drive to create lanes or open shots for team mates, don't feel like you need to score every time. Drive and kick, drive and kick drive and kick, then the next time might be open for the score.

hi, great vid as always, i have a question about my game, i started bball last year (im 26), so im not a great shooter yet but im decent at midrange jumper, when i attack a closeout, i often lose the ball because of the "next" defender (not the main help but the closest one) who is throwing hand on the ball what do you think is a cause for this, am i dribbling the ball too far, too high? what tips can allow me to lose it less?
@themidrange
@themidrange 29 күн бұрын

@tnnbeats9130 29 күн бұрын
@themidrange yes i saw it but at my level the spacing isnt great so the gap defender often reach before i can pick up the ball
@themidrange
@themidrange 29 күн бұрын
There's a few things you'd need to do most likely. 1, beat your defender more cleanly to the basket, better angle etc... 2. Make the gap defender pay by kicking the ball to their player when they reach. 3. Fake the pass to their player or look them off. 4. Have the player with the gap defender cut or screen away to take their player with them.

@themidrange
@themidrange 25 күн бұрын
Shooting threes is definitely reps and having a strong base/foundation. One thing that helped me was to actually shoot deep threes to get my motion and fundamentals down, then to move in closer to the three point line. I know it doesn't work for everyone but it's just another thing to try.
