I have owned 2 W213 E-Class’s an E220d and the E400d and they are amazing cars, best car I have every owned and never has any issues. I had a w205 c class before and that spent most the time in the workshop.

I own a e220d w213 from 2016 since may 2018 (so 6.5 years in my possession, imported from Germany) In the video I miss the failure modes of 1) the pump for the air suspension. Which I had fail once early and luckily under warranty. 500-650 euro or so for the part if I recall correctly. 2) Sometimes some small rattling can be heard through air vents which could be irritating (car currently at ~125000km or ~77700 miles) , changing the settings to blow bit less contains the issue. 3) Most irritating is corrosion on the metallic strips: annoying to try to keep shiny once it has set in. 4) On very hot days the head up display could behave strangely (had some vertical lines on it once or twice.. but kept on functioning and afterwards it's back to normal). 5) the option to brake if your drive over a white line is quite harsh and i leave it disabled ... also because road markings are not always perfect. 6) automatic speed limit change is not always updated with local road changes, and thus you still have to manually change speeds when adaptive cruise control is active sometimes 7) one of the times I had filled up ad blue it did not properly register and gave continuous error, even though it was full. 8) One other down side is the (~yearly) cost of maintenance in official Mercedes dealership. I have a big A9 service coming up and it will likely cost 1000+ euro. might update this review after that big service has been done ;-) 9) run flat tires are stiffer and potentially could damage the rims if the are swapped often (because they have to exert more force of the rims to get it off), make sure to check for rim damage, or 1 tire pressure which is significantly lower. Overall review of the car: very happy about 1) reliability 2) adaptive cruise control: although not perfect when going up a hill for instance or sharp bends, but keeping distance to car in front is super smooth, you might also notice that in very wide lanes the car gets bounced between left and right full white line but not that noticeable 3) fuel consumption: Actual consumption number in l/100km number is 0.5l/100km (so 10%) above the reported average in the cars computer system. I drive quite economically and hardly reach much above 5 l/100km (in the winter perhaps max 5.3l/100km = 53MPG uk), expect 10 to 20 % less consumption during the summer. This means 1200km or 745miles (winter) to 1400 km or 870 miles(summer) on a single 66liter (14.5 gallon uk) tank. 4) comfort (although imo air suspension is not that much of a plus compared to a 90's citroen XM) but the 9 speed gear box is awesome , the brilliant Burmester sound system, the head up display(i would not want a car without it any more because of the safety aspect of keeping your eyes closer to the road)... ... but annoyed by high maintenance cost and some minor visual (chrome strips) and audio (air vent rattle from time to time) bugs... and perhaps most annoyed by the fact that the sedan isn't a hatchback... trunk does not allow to pass through large items. I learned to live with the fact that i do not have the sound isolation option, but overall noise not that loud.

I have had a 220d SE Premium for two years and it has never had a single problem. Service history also shows it has not needed a part on it (apart from battery, filters brakes tyres and oil only). It is on 98,000 miles and feels like new. Two gripes, Comand nav does not work in real time as older ones did and the tailgate button on the key can operate in your pocket. I don't like the new model so plan to keep this for as long as I drive!

In Australia this was the first model where the normal E-Class wagon was no longer offered. We did get the 220d All Terrain model, and then a batch of E400d All Terrains that were ordered by the Victorian Police but dropped in favour of a 5 series because of something to do with fitting an auxillary battery. Recently some E400, E43, and E53 wagons have appeared imported from Japan. I kind of want them all, other than the 220d.

My MB dealer in the UK recently quoted £550 to replace the LED bulbs in the rear door handles, this being the result of labour to remove and refit the door cards to get access. Other than that, the main reliability issue over the 70,000 miles covered since I bought the car as a factory order in November 2016 have been failure of the wiring / connectors to the position sensing potentiometers on the accelarator pedal, which caused some alarming uncontrolled accelerations of the vehicle several times until the problem was eventually resolved after multiple visits to different dealers, and failure of the air suspension pump and one of the suspoension sensors. The most annoying problem is rattling of the metal buttons on the position controls for the electric seats, and vibration from some parts of the dashboard which comes and goes. These annoying noises are more obvious that they might otherwise be owing to the extremely low noise level inside the car, this being in part to my having chosen the SE spec with 18" wheels rather than larger ones, these having the further advantage that all four are the same size and can be rotated to even out tyre wear as was usually done years ago. No issues with the engine or drive train, my car has an annual service as per MB requirements at intervals of about 9.000 miles. This is a November 2016 E350d.

A currently have a w212 facelift E class coupe that's now hard to get in ( we are 75 years old) I am currently thinking of a electric SUV however the E class is close to my heart and may win😊

Two days driving per charge on an E-Class with that mileage. If getting in and out and electric are key though, I’ve got guides on the Jag I-Pace and BMW i3. The Mercedes EQ range is also good, but value for money a nice hybrid W213 might be best for head and heart 👍

The E400d has a design fault where the plastic turbo vacuum line runs too close to the DPF and melts. Mercedes factory fix only developed in October 2024

17:43 M276, reported fuel efficiency is way off, these engines struggle to reach 20mpg under normal operating conditions.(E450 4Matic, 3.0L V6 TT)

Hi, yes real world usually differs from officially tested fuel economy, especially if it was done on the older NEDC cycle, but I create all the guides with the official fuel economy to keep it fair 👍
