You can put glass next to a ches/furnace/crafting, when you try to put torches and such likes on it, It sticks to the chest because it cant be put on glass, and so detects the nearest applicable block. This also works with leaves, but your graphics have to be fancy (I think)

When you have the corner block thing, you could make it so other players can't see you inside. Merely set a light inside when not in use, as mobs only spawn a certain distance from the player.

For the sign underwater thing you can also use glass panes, fences, and iron bars, and save a slot of inventory.

also for the torch one, you can just crouch and place one on the crafting table, i don't know if this worked in 1.8.2 but atleast this will help the people in 1.6.2 :D

You can get air from torches as well. If you bring a bucket and fill it underwater, you will always refill your air :)

The shift function on blocks that have inventory was added in minecraft 1.4.6

The wooden slabs used to work like stone, thats why they didn't catch fire. Now there wood in 1.3.1/1.3.2. Also a pickaxe is faster to break wood slabs in any version except 1.3.1/1.3.2

You can light ocean floors by seting blocks on fire to, it has the same efect but might disperse more light, i'm not sure of this though.

@TheViberiser A lot of people made it. Muse also did it. If you are interested in a Let's Play series that is slihtly more original, and is made by this guy, try "Muse Farms". He starts from scratch (well, he does bring some equipment with him, technically...) and builds a house that is surrounded by all kinds of farms (sugar cane, tree, wheat, etc.), an enchantment room, a workshop, a lookout tower, animal pens, doghouse, etc. and he still has a lot to do.
