Oh my gosh! I was "the most approved-of, miserable person in the world!" After 37 years in a suffocating religion, and 33 years in a marriage which sucked the life out of me, I got out of both of those toxic relationships. I love this podcast, and specifically today's topic. At 55, I am learning to trust my gut, developing self-confidence and loving my big ol' weird, wonderful life! Mockers gonna mock - and that's perfectly okay - as I distance myself and walk my own path. :)

It is often so hard to find furniture that is in line with your values/style. We are currently living with what we have until we relocate to a different state. One of my co-workers also does woodwork--furniture, will get him to make something. One of my traditions for Christmas in Australia is a fruit salad. A few years ago had it with my other half's family, a lot of cooking of meat and puddings, I took a fruit salad. The children went back for seconds, thirds, fourths .... I appreciated the puddings, as with only two people generally for Christmas it is not worth the effort of cooking a lot. I also look to total strangers for inspiration. My hair is short after seeing a person in a shopping centre have short hair.

I don,t celebrate any holidays at all ,especially christmas and my life is better for it! It makes me sad watching; seeing all these people running around buying stuff . When I bought new stuff I did not necessarily need; the thrill was over within minutes ,so vapid! JESUS [YESHUA] said that it would pain the rich man to part with his stuff; basically! I pulled off that band-aid quickly and I am better for it ,much ,much happier now! Just me and my two cats ,Rocky and Punchy!

I feel Jessica here. But I would comfort her that it's better to buy something with high quality like a wooden table that will be in your house for decades rather than buy the one in the mass market shopping mall and then you will throw it out in 6 months.. this girl is actually giving so much to the world by giving the alternatives. And I'm okay to pay more for that once and then never buy a table again:)

It's unfortunate. Well, Jesus was crucified even though he hadn't sinned. Any person who has suffered that fate can remember that and take comfort in it. And also remember that God knows who is innocent.

Jessica, I understand the joy of the process. I love painting art, but can't figure out what to do with all the art when it is finished.

I told my parents i wasnt buying them mothers day and fathers day presents anymore (they have everything they need and i believe shops just made up these days to sell stuff). This fathers day i offered to take my dad out to lunch, but i think he was offended i didnt get him a present. I really dont believe in these days and buying more junk just because the shops tell us its a "special" day. should i compromise what i believe to make my family happy??

@@tracyhoward8228 yes i tend to give gift cards for birthdays/xmas or something useful. I just dont believe in alot of these made up days we are forced to celebrate - i mean i dont need to wait for "mothers day" to visit my mother. But she is big on presents. Like my parents recently came back from holidays and bought me all these tacky souvenirs i didnt even want. Then if i dont do the same with gifts they think i'm mean. I know its their choice if they want to give gifts - but how much do you compromise your own beliefs to continue tradtions that others like.

@@MarleneHen I'd forgotton I'd written those comments - so long ago! I still don't buy my parents gifts for mothers day/fathers day. They have eveything they need and want so it seems a waste of money. I don't know why but these made up days annoy me 😝 - valentines etc.... I still get them a birthday gift.

@@krissyk9767 Does it still upset them? Sometimes I feel a little silly purchasing gifts for my in-laws because I know they have what they need. But we're / they're a gift giving family, so I try to do more consumables than I did before. If I had to begin again, I would focus more on gifting consumables and experiences for my children right from the start. I now have a house full of clutter that I have very little time to tackle.
