Hey everyone ! So , I am 13 and love minimalism ! And I also love helping my mom minimalize . So we were decluttering the kitchen , and she wanted to put cute artificial plants in each window , and I said " it's too much . Mom , simple is a style in itself" she thought about it and said ...." I like that !"

Just to prove your point; You would not believe what I found this weekend (again!) a 'lovely' drawstring bag that came off my daughter's duvet set I bought new in the UK, to bring to Cyprus... 15 years ago! 🤦♀️ I think at one time it was used for a loose set of small toys, as I made a few bigger bags to hang up on a peg rail when we first came here and had no storage; those nice ones were reused for school gym bags, but this cheap, t-shirt material one should've been thrown away years ago 🤷♀️ and this is why I have so much clutter!

The money you spent on the stuff you declutter is never wasted as long as it is used, even if it's not by the one who paid for it. It's only truly wasted when it's not used, such as stuffed under your bed or hanging in your closets unworn, or wherever.

Awe!! You wanna hear something crazy...weight loss is easier for me than decluttering!!!! Since I’m diagnosed with hoarding disorder, it’s harder for me to get rid of flip flops, toys, makeup, etc but easy for me to say no to Doritos, Cookies, junk food!! Ohhhhh...yes, I’ve been diving deeper into the “Scarcity Mindset” lately!!! It is directly connected to hoarding!!! I’m transitioning into more of a grateful mindset knowing & trusting that God will always provide for us! I need not hold on tightly to this item!!! Thank you for always keeping me encouraged 🌟🌟🌟

Wow! Fairly new but loving your channel. First time I've seen your sister. You are blessed. I had 3 brothers and no sister but always wanted one. This message really made sense to me. I've had lack of money and with 6 children I had to be very creative, plus that's what I love is crafting and making something out of nothing. I'm in a different season now and the Lord has blessed me with enough finances to make my life easier even though I'm on a set budget. I tend to be very frugal and feel bad about money I've wasted. I'm 71 and have little energy due to fibromyagia and a heart condition called afib which I have to use oxygen for. I need to go through 40 years of a 5 bedroom house because I need to move and downsize. It is overwhelming because I don't have much help. All but one of my children live in different States. The one that lives near hasn't much time due to her own family but is willing to help when she can. The prayer at ths end was powerful and perfect. Knowing you are Christian is a bonus for me. Thank you for all your videos.

Americans have a huge consumer/consuming problem. We are inundated with marketing all of our lives. That marketing convinces us that we need more than we actually do. “We don’t live in a time of lack, we live in a time of excess..” My fave takeaway from today’s video. Getting rid of something is usually the right decision, and if we find that we “need” that item later down the road, the truth is we only want it for convenience’ sake, and it’s just a “ want” and not a “need” anyway.

As someone who's aiming to become less wasteful, I really appreciate some initiatives here in Germany and I really wish for the US to catch up on these. Nr. 1 is foodsharing. It's an initiative where people can store food they don't consume (purchased something wrong or too much) in a place, where usually people with low income live and can grab it for free. Or you can use the website to invite people to come over and get what you have to offer directly from you. Nr. 2 is the 'Give Box'. It's kind of like the book boxes, made of old phone booths or even old fridges or as a shelve in a public building. People can put things they don't need there and others can pick them up for free. Those are also mostly located in areas with low income households. It helps me personally to declutter a lot without feeling too guilty about it. Maybe Diana would have the possibility and connections to organize something similar?

As I declutter areas of my home, I have so many "organizational" items left over. It's difficult for me to part with all the metal, plastic, wicker, and cloth storage bins. And they're empty! As I watched this video, I downsized my stash of plastic bags to a smaller bin. (I don't know why I had so many!) Now I have a large cloth cube that truly has no current use. But it's saying "save me! Use me!" Some people's weakness is clothes. Mine is cute storage bins. Great to see you both! Continued prayers of blessings for you and your family.

I decided on my favorites, and I keep those!! They stack nicely, and dont take up much space when stacked. We are trying to finish a house while living in it. So things get moved around or have temp homes a lot. Those organizing baskets are gold for me! I also quilt, and use them to keep in progress projects contained so pieces dont get lost. I think that many professional declutterers say to get rid of them so you dont fill them back up. But if that isnt an issue for you, by all means keep some, or all! ;)

* At first it sounds like I don't believe in giving things away, but keep reading through that part...After having a prom dress for over ten years I gave it to good will and six months later my sister called and asked if she could borrow it for a play she was in. Another time, we had a round, amber, glass candy dish with a rounded lid. My daughter (she was much younger then) wanted me to keep it because it would be perfect for a wise man to use as a gift for the Christ child in a Nativity play. After two or three Christmases with no play, I gave it away. Six months later there was a Nativity play where we could have used it. Situations like this, where I could have used something after I gave it away, have happened more than once and it got to the point where I would hesitate to give things away because I really might need it!!! However, what I came to find out is that almost 100% of the things I gave away were never needed again and for the times when I could have used them again, I found that life went on and the world still kept spinning without them. We would just find something else to use. * Having someone to help me is ESSENTIAL for me to be able to declutter. It is just too overwhelming to do it alone. I have been REALLY blessed to have my 19 year old daughter home from college to help me tackle my decluttering projects this summer. She is like minded with my goals of decluttering and I have a DEADLINE of finishing everything I possibly can before she goes back to school. If someone doesn't have a daughter, sister, Mother, friend, etc. to help in decluttering, I would absolutely encourage them to join your group if at all possible. My sister was decluttering and she had a bunch of Tupperware items that were torn or broken and she knew if she contacted a representative from Tupperware, they would give her replacements for everything for free. She was quite busy with work, family and church and getting those replacements were quite low on her priority list of making sure things got done. She called her daughter who lives in another state and asked if it was okay to just throw those items away and her daughter said, "Yes." She could then throw them away. I think everyone needs some kind of support system. Not wanting others to see how things are in a home, and other reasons are valid concerns, but can limit who might be able to help. If someone doesn't have a person they know who can help them, joining Dawn's group could be extremely helpful! * I wouldn't be doing as well as I am with my decluttering if it wasn't for you Dawn. I often tell my daughter I couldn't get rid of things the way I am without having heard your mindset. You say things that really make sense and resonate with me and it makes it a celebration when I part with things. =) Sometimes when I put things in the good will box or throw things away I say, "Thanks Dawn!"

There are some things I hang onto even if I know I'll only them need once or twice in the next few years because when I do need them, I don't want to have to go try to find them in the store again (especially these days). It's not the money that makes me keep some things. It's the convenience of already having them on hand, even if I rarely need them. But, I have gotten much better about paring down quantity, duplicates, near-duplicates, and clothes that don't fit.. Even though we just moved from a 3,600 sf house to a 1,500 sf one, I actually have empty cabinets/drawers and lots of unused hanging space now -- and the garage is empty except for my car. It feels SO good.

Let me begin by saying I LOVE your vlog! I appreciate more than 75% of your suggestions. Over a lifetime of limited resources I’ve learned to be a VERY careful shopper so I don’t feel buyer’s remorse very often. My children are grown and I am pushing 70 so it must be obvious why I find your vlog so helpful-it is the time to sort through my home! I live in a 2 bedroom condo. My goal at this point is to simplify my spaces to make cleaning easier and create an environment that is comfortable. The other prominent point is to make things easier for my family when the time comes for them to go through my belongings. The other reason I follow you is due to your delightful personality 🙂! So if from time to time I offer information I hope you realize I am NOT being patronizing, though it may be interpreted that way by some, I am sharing some little things I’ve learned over a lifetime! Good luck with the sheets, cleaning them that is, and thank you for your vlogs!

thank you for the scripture reminders that the Lord takes care of our needs. As I gear up to remove items so we can install new flooring, I grew sad. My house is jam packed, still, after thinking I had decluttered well last year. When Covid hit the world, I began to buy more and more pantry foods, toiletries, etc just in case. Now as I have to box them up, find places to put them (in the basement), it makes the purchase of the flooring so much less enjoyable. Lessons learned right.

I'm studying business and ethics in college, and I believe the hardest thing in general is how we consume. I love decluttering, but it's a lot harder to stop consuming at the same rate so that we don't have to keep decluttering. Like it feels good to get rid of all of our junk, but mentally it's hard to know that if I have to throw something away (broken items or something you can't donate) is going to sit in the landfill for hundreds of years! That plastic kids toy in the McDonald's happy meal? Its sitting in a landfill for 450 years or more. That's crazy! Why do we have to consume and live this way? That seems to be the hardest part for me; wrapping my head around the intensity in which we all consume and the HUGE negative impact we have. I am making it my goal to do what I can to consume better. And lastly, when I am donating something, I want to make sure it gets to someone who needs it (not just another hoarder or maximalist)!

I opened a kitchen cabinet the other day and spied a wooden salad bowl that had been a wedding gift 39 years ago. It was interfering with convenient stacking of the other dishes in the cabinet. Should I get rid of it? I don't use it frequently...but it is a nice bowl...it was a wedding present... I can't decide. So I just closed the cabinet. (I should mention this is a cabinet with doors on both sides so you can open it from the kitchen or from the dining room.). A little while later, my husband and I heard something clatter to the floor in the dining room. When I went to investigate, there was the wooden salad bowl actually broken on the floor. No idea what made it choose to leap out of the cabinet, but my decision was made for me!

God has always provided for me and my family. So many times he’s come through for us and provided for exactly what we need. As one example, my Dad was praying for a smart pair of shoes when I was away at University. One of my University friends asked if I knew anyone who wears that shoe size as he’d bought some shoes and never worn them. Not knowing my Dad had been asking for shoes, I took them with me on my next visit home. They were exactly what he needed and perfect timing.

Since school just ended, I have been through all but the kitchen & bathrooms deep cleaning and decluttering. It’s helped with the stresses of the last few months. The comforter bag, I would keep and fill will more stuff to get rid of. Nice way to carry things to the donation center. 😃

I love to listen to your channel while I am decluttering, or doing anything, to keep the narrative in my head changing. Your family is delightful to watch. I found you through Darci Isabella. ☺️ Thanks for your amazing upbeat KZbin presence in my days these past couple weeks. Saturday, Hubs and I filled a 70 quart tote with stuff we don’t use in our kitchen. It took about 30 minutes. We thought it would take hours, but you said in a video it wouldn’t so I gave it a shot. We aren’t “married to” the idea of getting rid of it all, but none of it has been used in about a year. So I’m guessing in the next month it will be removed because of its large footprint in our small kitchen. I also took down the folding table we have been using as a lower counter for the kids to help in the kitchen because it was actually Neverland, a home for lost things that don’t want to go to their homes or to the trash bin, haha. I had been putting it off because it was a “big job” and I couldn’t squeeze and hour to do it and deep clean the floor and wall it’s been hiding. But wow, actually the kids asked how they could help because they liked having walking space in the kitchen. I said: why don’t you do something to make your own space lovely? How about you put all the toys in bins and we will go through them to see what we really love. They LOVED the idea, and per suggestion buckled down to focus for about 20 minutes to finish it together without stopping to play (so grateful for this element of a Charlotte Mason education! It’s actually paying off!). I am so dang proud of them! They felt great going outside to play after some hard work, and I’m going to sit down and have a coffee without feeling guilty like I haven’t done anything “worthy” of my time.

Yes! I’ve hung onto lots of packaging - because it seems too good to discard. New bedsheets came in fabric pockets with Velcro closures. THE SHEETS WILL NOT FIT IN THOSE AGAIN. TV ears came in pretty blue boxes with magnetic closures. WHY?!? Pillowcases, blankets, mattress pads - in those zippered plastic bags... sigh.

That is the single most impactful video I've watched in a long while. It literally just breathed grace into my body. This defines my season and the pinings I've been working to sort out. I've been hung up on categories and titles. Somehow this message was recieved to me without any traditional means and that's why..it was simple. Words cannot expressed Matthews 6:25..and the word of God has blessed my heart and mind. My body is feeling lighter and more joyful

Oh I love this! I just finished completely decluttering everything to our name and I do feel fresh! I love to remember (regarding anything frustrating really) I was made for more. God made me for more than being overtaken by clutter! ♥️♥️♥️

I have used those cloth bags as gift bags if they're unbranded or as our "thrift store" bag that we collect things we are decluttering in and then donate when it's full.

That’s why I have always returned anything I’m not happy with or using! I’m not letting money 💰 sit in my closets. But I was always leveling homeschool books, toys and clothing. No more. I keep what we use and have spent the summer letting go of even more homeschooling books. This week I’m simplifying the bonus room and the grandkid toys (which are quality toys from my 6 children). Time to let some more go....

Hey Dawn and Diane, tip #3 from 5:42 -6:01 is exactly how I feel I've been determined to do it alone mainly because I'm SUPER EMBARRASSED about it and I would be DEVASTATED if anyone else saw behind my closet doors. Even writing this comment is more than I would ever want to share. Hey Dawn didn't you tackle your stuff alone ? And you got through it wonderfully. I never made New Year's resolutions anymore because as Diane said WEIGHT is the hardest !!! But this year I actually said out loud (to myself) that I really want to change this problem I have with clutter and here we are in June and NOTHING has happened yet. It's been a rough 6 months but I pray that the next 6 months WILL BE BETTER.

i use your videos as inspiration and motivation. right now im dealing with a table that is about dining room table sized and it is so cluttered with different papers. , art supplies, art crafts, a gift basket. things on top of things on top of other things. i get overwhelmed easy and i have looked at that big pile in the past and have gone oh no i do not want to deal with that. too much work. too much time. too much everything. but now i just try to do a little bit even for 5 minutes, but i did a few times of 15 minutes of declutter. and im making a dent in it now. i think about 25% of it is gone. most of it was papers, the other part was putting a few things where they belonged.

How can I let go? My sled from childhood which i got for cleaning my folks garage when i helped them out long after I left home.....So i was so attached to this sled and we carried it around for the last 40+ years and yesterday I realized it was time to let it go. I said thank you (Kon Mari thank your item and let it go) Not once in all of these years did you use it and it was large and took up so much room yet I could not let it go. After following your channel and realizing that we hang on to things that we don't use, can't use ( I am 69 yrs old when am I going to go sledding?) This sled is built for a child and it would not go down the hill with my body...LOL It became a realization some of these items are the happy memories attached but I have no use for this sled then why not give it away to a child that can have happy memories that I had with this sled. This is my reality when going thru my items as I declutter do i need this and do I use it or am I hanging on to a memory which is in the past but I live in the now? Thanks for your encouragement and cheering us on in the decluttering journey....

Amen. Dawn maybe use that bag to bring food or bedding from the camper to the house and vise versa. It's easy to fold away and store. I have something similar and it makes this easier. I wash out bedding in our camper every other trip and this makes transferring easier.

I’m a seasoned declutterer and even I found myself saying the other day...well, maybe we should keep that. I’ve seen people do cool thongs with one...what?? I wasn’t even saving it for my someday self...I was going to save it for some undisclosed person who may want to use it for a project. Oh heavens!! Thank goodness I was able to work through it before I hauled it to my garage!

If you reuse cloth bags for groceries. You could put those, by the door, to take w/ you to the store. Then, reuse it for bulk, items, such as, toilet paper, paper towels, etc. So, less trips you have to take to your home f/ the car. Also, you could reuse for packing away altogether or camping for bulk blankets & throws or smaller 1's for the kids, whenever they go to someone's to spend the night. If their toiletries, spills on it. Throw it in the washer. Many uses or re-uses.

I am loving your channel!! You and your family are truly inspiring! We are in the process of buying a home and hope to be moving soon so I finally got the feeling of I need to start decluttering - even if its just slowly like you have said before onion method. Now we have gotten through most paper clutter and desk area which felt amazing - hard to throw some good things away but I knew we had not used it in 3 years! I also have decluttered a good chunk of my clothes to donate (2 big bags full) and found a lot of nice interview type clothes that I can give to my sister who is transitioning from finishing school to work world :) Thank you so much!!!

I started a "summer declutter challenge" June 1st with my Mom and Sister! You should see them coming on board! The goal was one item per day, but now they are saying..."we can't stick to just one thing!" This is amazing, bc now they have family members that are coming on board, too. It is snowballing! Yes, Dawn..the bedding bags, etc Guilty as charged...but not anymore. Guess what I now use stuff like that for? To fill up with my daily declutter items😉😁So, I totally get what you both have said, Dawn ( about the comforter bag ) & Diana, about the sweatshirt. Yes, a happier and lighter soul is a result😍Happy Sunday!!

For those of you with a minimal wardrobe: Do you ever feel embarrassed if you keep wearing the same outfits? Childhood teasing, due to a lack of clothing options, is making me reluctant to get rid of a lot of my clothes.
