My mom bought me this album as a tape from target more than 20 years ago. It was from one of those end caps where you’d walk up and push a button to sample the music. I would play it to go to sleep to for years until the tape was destroyed from overuse.

Why are so many performers claiming this is a Celtic song? It's an English song (possibly with Italian influences). There are enough Celtic songs without stealing this.
@anomalyunit46373 жыл бұрын
Celts are English. English were just reformed.
@YorkyOne Жыл бұрын
@@anomalyunit4637 What is that supposed to mean? There hasn't been a 'Celtic' influence in England for over 1300 years and this song (and it's many variants) can only be traced back to the late 1500's.

Guys, this wasn't composed by Henry VIII. "Greensleeves" was composed by a musician during the Middle Ages. We don't know anything about him because the music score passed hand by hand and "Greensleeves" 's author was forgotten. And the symphony is too "poor" for that historical period.
@righteousviking10 жыл бұрын
***** Why is that? He was a lively, energetic, and well educated young man. He probably had a better education than anyone alive today. What makes you think he couldn't write music? I know there's really no evidence he did write this piece, but I think he was more than capable of doing so.

Myrtale Ellery as some one that is a big fan of this song I have dun alot of work trying to find information on this what is still out there is that this was composed during the Middle Ages as you say it is a love song about a king losseing his queen and the pain after not much more can be seperated beond that

Well, since the style of song doesn't appear until after Henry DIED...I'd say that the chances are slim he had anything to do with it, unless he haunted the creator...

Does this Celtic Renaissance album actually have any Celtic songs on it? so far they all seem to be English traditional songs that have nothing to do with the Celts... Scarborough fair, greensleeves, you'll have yellow submarine next.

Uncle Jane Yes, most likely, considering musical history. And considering that Roman Italy, in lating 'Italia', was established by Emperor Augustus about 2 millenia ago...would you like to try again?
@a_wise_young_man7527 жыл бұрын
Not the same thing at all. The Italia described by the Romans was nothing more than a seperate tribes, many with no kinship to Romans at all. Different languages were spoken and different cultures populated these regions. The republic of Italy is a modern mation state.

It is in fact an English version of a transverse wooden flute long-known as the German flute, modified by the English, and radically changed by English inventor and flautist Charles Nicholson Jr
