Anatolian cuture is itself heavily influenced by Byzantine culture...greek and Anatolian music are actually the same music, especialy if you think that half of the greek populations has anatolian roots

The bouzouki is a whole world on its own just like the guitar. In fact, the 4-double-string bouzouki (brought forward by Manolis Chiotis in 1950) is a newer instrument than the electric guitar (invented in the 1930s). The 3-double-string bouzouki came around the 1920s as a bigger thicker version of the juras an instrument coming from the ancient Greek pandura/trichordon (we can see these in rare artwork - rare because the instrument was considered 'too plebeian" just like it was also considered back in the 1920s up to 1960s, quite funny!). The 3-double-string is still played a lot and every bouzouki player has one, yet the most popular in the Greek music scene is the 4-double-string version by Manolis Chiotis. Chiotis was initially a guitar player which led him to not only add 1 more double string, a bass one, but also to change the tuning to result in a guitar like chord position albeit based on D not E. This actually makes it extremely easy for guitarists to make the switch to 4-string bouzouki as they basically play their chords and scales in the exact same way they play them in guitar.
