Loved this mini series, glad you did it that way. It does amaze me how different old bikes are in their controls layout and the skill people have who can ride the different types. Of course Chitty Chitty Bang Bang flies. 😂

Great video. I have a very similar bike, except mine is a couple of years newer but basically the same. For anyone thinking a Panigale or Kawasaki H2 is the ultimate thrill then think again. Riding one of these on the road is one the scariest things you can do. If you ride one in traffic then you might change your mind about how "good" the brake is. Thanks for showing some of this old stuff to a wider audience.

Man I enjoyed this series at the museum tour and especially the accounts of you riding such pricey (priceless?) historical machines, I truly loved it. The veriety of transportation content in your videos is so enjoyable to watch as I am sure your viewers would agree - that non of us have opportunities like this. for instance, the days are gone when you could enter a dealership, show interest in a bike and be out 'tryinging it out' in an hour or so. also the tours; no one that I know can do this. so riding along and enjoying your coverage of these experiences is a pure joy. Thanks very much Andy

So glad that I didn't tune in this time to see you bin the unbelievably valuable Harley! Again, fascinating - all, & great insights from Ian. When I lived in the UK, many moons (21 years) ago (still not that old, bailed out of corporate life early), I worked for Castrol (Industrial division) & was involved in a very important internal project for which we had the 'on-boarding' meeting in the New Forest in a beautiful hotel over a weekend, but the meetings were held at the NMM (excellent facilities as I remember), so this brings back great memories!. Thanks again for a great vid, looking forward to seeing you in Japan.

That Beaulieu museum! At 13:02 you see a 1936 Auburn Boattail speedster just sitting around the corner as if it were a normal thing to have the gem of any Nineteen-Thirties car collections there, and the 3.2 Litre Bentley Blower must be somewhere near as well! If this were Pratchett's Discworld, there would be octarine sparks flying all over the place from all the magic going on! 🤩 How many days did it take for the smiles this day put on your face to fade out? 😊

Heh heh, I suspect the Harley's steering may be deliberate - to help weave between the copious piles of horse muck covering the roads of their day. Nice to see the big Sunbeams getting some love, any plans to wake up Segrave's 'Golden Arrow'? - it's only done about 50 miles from new! : )

Well done, these veteran bikes were “in at the deep end”. I guess maybe you have had experience of advance & retard with magnetos on light aircraft? Such completely different controls maybe easier to learn than the deceptively familiar controls of a more modern classic bike from the 1950s or 60s with. I learned to ride in the days when if you borrowed a mates bike you automatically asked which controls did what as the layout was fairly standard but the function wasn’t. The gear shift was often on the right & brake on the left and I vividly remember being taken by surprise on an early Ducati 750 with gearbox that was “down for up” (Nortons & some BSAs, Matchless etc were the same = its now called race shift & is back in vogue for track bikes & racers).
