Great review as usual. I have just ordered mine. My first "big bike" After much deliberation on which bonnie to get I decided this has more than enough power for fun on the roads. Now comes with 64bhp blacked out engine coveres and wheels as standard and a brushed not chrome exhaust. Can't wait. One thing you bring up and I did think in the showroom. The single plastic clock really let some models down. If they changed this to the double clocks on all I think there sales would go up.

I agree 100%.....double clocks (like the T100) is the way to go!

Torque is so much more fun than horse power. I can understand wanting to wring the throttles neck on the track but like you say in the real world torque is nicer. I have now stopped looking at hp figures, I look now for how much torque and where in the rev range is it.
@TheMissendenFlyer8 жыл бұрын
Completely agree, this feels lively the moment you pull away and doesn't run out of puff until you're well above 70mph....so in my book, the power is exactly where you want it. Seriously impressed with this bike, loving it....

Enjoyed the ride, thanks! I've owned a T120 for the last several months. Glad to hear that the new T100 is a worthy stable mate. The stock mirrors on both bikes might truly be a bit retro and stalky, but they look like they do for good reasons. With them, you can look back and to the sides without looking down. Those long stalks dampen vibration very nicely. The mirrors themselves are set slightly inboard, and are not the widest points of the bike. Last, at night, your elbows can be used to prevent your being blinded by the headlights of following traffic. Rear view mirrors on bikes are most useful for preventing a merge into an occupied lane, not for looking directly behind. Correct technique is to look while swiveling your head, and then glance into the mirror to confirm that a lane change or merge is safe. FWIW.
@TheMissendenFlyer8 жыл бұрын
Cheers TSMguy - yes agree with all that - those mirrors do work a treat, I just don't much like the stalky look. Cheers for watching and for stopping by - TMF

Wonderful review. The color combination on your test bike is stunning. I'm looking forward to this spring when I can hopefully demo the T100 and the Street Scrambler. I have a 2014 T100 that will be traded in this year on a new T100 or Scrambler. Love the looks of both along with increased torque, ABS & traction control which my 2014 model does not have. Interested to see once you have a crack on the new Scrambler, if your 1st preference will be for a T100 or Scrambler. Keep up the great work!

The T100 is a great little bike but if you are going to go 2 up a lot then the T120 may be a better option. If you are two up less than 50% of the time then personally I'd go with the T100 - nicer handling than the heavier 1200cc to my mind....personal preference though of course, many chaps just like to get the biggest most powerful bike for bragging rights of course!
@RichardNaef7 жыл бұрын
as the owner of a 60's triumph twin, you've got to be impressed with the styling job Triumph has done. Everything from the headlamp brackets to the clutch and primary covers and the " errrr Red Cap where the spark plug is" are a direct copy from the meriden twins. In my biased view that is nothing to complain about.
@TheMissendenFlyer7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I parked up at the Super Sausage cafe next to some vintage Triumphs of the Meriden era and was struck with the echo's the Hinckley boys have carried off....nice job all round on this bike. Cheers for watching - TMF

Excellent review,, good that Triumph have given you a long-term loan for a more in-depth look. I'd be interested to see how you manage the weight, not so much when it's moving but when it isn't. I do like the idea of that light Clutch, I think I could manage that with my hand. I also like the Torque in preference to a high revving engine, it looks very good too. I would have to sit on one to try the height, I can't ride with my legs too bent as I am very long in the leg (my legs always been a problem for me with any vehicle, I can assure you long legs are not an advantage) A remember very well how bikes used to be back then, Mrs F and I are planning a trip to Austria on my Honda it was risky riding from Southampton to Brighton then in the hope it won't break down. Many thanks for a great review, look forward to the follow up.

Hi, what is your personal observation of the front braking on these bikes. They all seem to suffer with this not quite there feel. Even the Enfield interceptor has a similar gripe. Is it the because it's a single disc, disc size, 2 pot caliper as opposed to 4 pot.the make and model type. Delivery system? Your opinion would be appreciated.

...well no comparison really, the Bonnie is a modern bike, the Royal Enfield isn't. @@TheMissendenFlyer - The Bud Ekins it’s a very good looking bike. I nearly bought one instead of the GTPro (I’m a one bike man). However decided to go ahead with the GTPro, which seems a great bike in terms of safety, practicality and comfort. However the Tiger can’t hold a candle to the Bud Ekins in terms of looks...

Good question - both great, go with the one you like the look of most! Triumph better made....
@jmcphee78 жыл бұрын
I saw one today while the STR was in for it's fettling at Triumph. Much better thing to look at in the metal which seems to be a running theme these days in terms of brochure picture vs real world viewing. Not my cup of tea and dismissed it outright based on pictures but seeing it i definitely appreciated it. About the bar end mirror point. I was relieved of quite a substantial (relatively speaking) amount of money today by Mr Triumph for bar end mirrors for the STR while it was in for service. They look excellent but bugger me, they are useless as a mirror! I was a bit disappointed
@TheMissendenFlyer8 жыл бұрын
Yes agreed - I have found the same with the bar ends (if they're the same as mine on my STR) - definite case of form over function!

I rode one a few months ago. I currently own the previous air cooled version and just had a ride on an original 1970 Bonneville. They all are the same yet very different. I still like mine best. This latest version does everything better...but I think it has also become a bit too smooth if that's possible. Some of the character has gone away but it may only bother codgers like me. Riders of modern bikes won't find it the least bit disagreeable. I'm sure the fans of the Meriden Triumphs had similar thoughts about the air cooled Hinckley.

so what is the difference between the t100 and the street Twin? why would you buy one over the other ?
@TheMissendenFlyer8 жыл бұрын
+Mark Proxell The T100 feels to me more like a grown up bike, for some reason the Street Twin felt a little toy like. The big difference though is the look/styling, the T100, in my opinion, is far and away finished to a higher standard - all the trinkets of the T120 but in a lighter platform.....I'm loving it!
@markheinig8 жыл бұрын
Your portrayal of the T100 describes a bike that is probably a better fit for most of my riding as compared to the bikes I've been focusing on lately. I really should seek out a test ride. Thank you for this review and the numerous other videos of yours I've watched and enjoyed.

0:50 - I personally wouldn't think of this as a light bike at 220kg, particularly in light of the 54bhp figure.
@TheMissendenFlyer8 жыл бұрын
True - but it's lighter than the bike I normally ride (my GS) and lighter than it's T120 brother - that's what I was getting at. But agreed, a middling weight in the scheme of things...
@Fernando900542 жыл бұрын
I think that I like my T120 better than this one, besides the price is really tempting. But I value a lot a pair of good and strong brakes and in that aspect the T120 is a winner here. I also understand the elimination of the passenger grab rail , the rear looks much more cleaner but in fact I am a fan of that utility and I think, on a modern classic ride like this, it is something to have back there, looks nice to my eyes and is useful. So, another thing that Triumph shorted in the offer. The T120 has cruise control but it should have heated grips and this winter I’ll instal it on mine, it’s important for comfort. Another feature that is important for domestic maintenance for cleaning and chain lubrication, is the central stand, couldn’t see if it is present on this T100 from stock but for me it’s another indispensable asset on a bike as the Bonneville, because it’s just a very practical thing to have. Once more, a very good review on the Bonneville T100. Thank you for that. ✌️✌️

+John Heaney ....having not ridden an R9T on road tyres, at this point, I much prefer the Triumph in terms of handling and refinement, the BMW comes very close on looks and quality (maybe even exceeds it) but in my opinion the Triumph trumps it (and in this case that's a good thing!).....

+jeff ferguson Hi Jeff, I think if you rode one you'd quickly be at ease with these new fangled electro-throttles, they really do feel no different to a cable throttle in use and offer significant advantages (enable use of riding modes, no need to oil throttle cable, less cabling to route, etc).....

That is possibly the nicest looking of the retro Triumphs that I've seen however I am not very keen on the way they look. I don't like all the fakery with these bikes. I think two examples of really getting it right are the BMW RnineT and the Indian Scout. These bikes don't try to look just like machines from the past, they are modern designs that have something of the spirit of the historic bikes. Although the Scout is not my kind of bike it is an example, I think, of how to do retro. It is a water-cooled V-twin and it makes no attempt to hide that with fake fins and all that. The bike shows that it is a current bike and tries not to hide it, however, it does have the spirit of the original Scout. Personally I don't like that it is a 270 degree crank because those original Edward Turner twins were 180 degree and that gave them a very modern feel for their time. The regular firing impulses were part of the identity of those bikes. Having grumbled about all these aesthetic issue I am sure that Triumph was very nice to ride. I totally agree that ironically less powerful bikes can be more fun because you can ride them closer to the edge of their capabilities more easily. Also being lighter is really good as well.
@TheMissendenFlyer8 жыл бұрын
....I get ya Brighton Dude - although the 270 degree firing order maybe truly inauthentic it does give the bike the brilliant "retro" sound - a real thumper - and I bet this bike is considerably smoother to ride than the Ed Turner original! I get what you mean about the fakery too - what I like about this over the T120 is that they've cut down on that - no fake carbs for example (which I personally think is naff on the 120 and the Thruxton)....
@brighton_dude8 жыл бұрын
I am sure it is an excellent bike to ride actually. My negative comments are all just aesthetic stuff. I think the smaller engine and lighter bike is very appealing indeed.
