They did dumb math. They single key is 12.99$, and three keys are normally 29.99$, "saving" you 6$. But they made it a "sale", where they removed 5$ from both keys options, so of course now 15$ (3*5$) saved is higher than 11$ saved (5+6$).

I just want to build my grand questline where you can choose to free or continue to enslave villagers. If you choose to enslave nothing changes, just the normal game mechanics. If you choose to free them you unlock an alternative way to unlock Mending. This quest simply takes the in-game mechanic (no real life history or politics) and adds a story to it. But I guess telling mature stories and making people think is not kid-friendly.

I mean if companies like EA and 2K can do it then why shouldn’t Minecraft servers be able to? The AAA games industry has made it abundantly clear that they have no problem with loot boxes or predatory monetization schemes so Minecraft server owners are just fallowing what the rest of the gaming industry is already doing anyway. And I would bet money on the fact that Microsoft would do it themselves if they could get away with it without apocalyptic levels of backlash! At least with this system it’s not Microsoft that is brainwashing kids into accepting predatory monetization practices. It’s the server owners themselves. It’s actually a genius move on Microsoft’s part. Have a bunch of random people brainwash kids into accepting predatory monetization systems. And have them take all the backlash and blame for it while you sit back and pretend that the problem doesn’t even exist! Then when these kids grow up it will be a lot easier to sell your own shitty micro transactions and monetization systems become the kids will have already been brainwashed into thinking it’s normal by Minecraft server owners and you didn’t even have to lift a finger and potentially get backlash if you had tried to do the same yourself! They won’t do anything about it because it makes them look bad when they’re doing the exact same thing in the Bedrock shop: persuading gullible children to spend their parents money. Even if it’s not P2W like these servers, they’re still engaging in similar predatory activities, while preaching about their commitment to kid-friendliness, and rather than actually addressing damaging actors in the community, Microsoft will continue to try and outdo them with their own horrendous tactics.

I'll never forget when CaptainSparklez was sponsored by a SUPER P2W Pokemon Minecraft server. Super scummy loot boxes for awful cosmetics, Legendary/Mythical Pokemon, shiny Pokemon, etc. Sure some of it's cosmetic, but the Legendary/Mythical Pokemon offer a huge advantage for most players and would otherwise require who knows how much grinding. I think the server was called Anubis or something, I'm sure the videos of it are still up.

The thing that boggles my mind is that there is a Python library that can parse and write NBT data. Any duping activity could be detected with like 5% of server's computation resources and auto-ban any offender. But those who want to farm monies via p2w servers are too lazy to do that.

As a Software Engineer by profession and someone who used to write Minecraft Plugins for fun while in college, this grotesque lack of validation brought a server to it's figurative knees. Really interesting video. Good work. The moral of the story: If you are being paid by a Minecraft Server to Professionally write a program/plugin.. Don't suck. fyi, If you want a plugin Professionally written, I'll do it for you, but I'm not some random developer who will do it for $15 like on Spigot. I'd charge $2500 for a somewhat Complicated Plugin, or more if you have a feature list longer than my Starbucks history. $2500 is 15 - 20 hours of my time as a Major in Computer Science with 7 years of experience.

Unfortunately I find that this creates many copycats who attack small servers that just so happen to have a crates plugin. The server I play on has no ways to purchase keys, you just get one daily and otherwise from participating in weekly events and the rewards tend to be rather small when they are not being cosmetics. Still, it feels like every 2-3 weeks there's a group of kids who try to copy horizon and MrEpic and try to poorly lag out the server (they are usually caught within minutes as they all uncreatively use the same method)

I'm blaming Mojang for these Pay-to-Win gambling servers. They don't care at all. There're Minecraft servers with huge player bases that has been up and running for many years now, and are still up - but because they're not English, Mojang doesn't do anything about it.

I don't see a single reason for Mojang to do something. Like... Do they even provide a server selection browser? No. You need to write IP of server to join it. Which means you basically need to search for such server to play on it. Which also means you agree with everything about it. It's players problems that they play on P2W servers. P2W players need P2W servers. P2W servers need P2W players. It's all about demand and supply, not about moderating and censorship. Even if they do something about it, I'm pretty sure players will find a mod or something like that to play. I don't even see any reason why does Mojang actually have any permission to shut down something they doesn't even have anything to do with, except the game itself. Well, nowadays, however, they do some shit updates because all their time is spent on moderation and censorshit, and the new updated eula suck, they now have permission to shut down everything that has word "Minecraft", or any of it's assets, which is basically everything about Minecraft.

If you don't have the money to host a server then don't host it, what gives you the right to profit from an IP that is not yours. (ofc not you directly, just as in general) You can, and people have for many years either used their own PCs, which are now way beefier than back in the day, to host servers and it costs nothing and people can still do it, Mojang even made it braindead easy with the open to LAN option.

Running your server 24/7 would still have the electricity expenses and then there’s the factors of purchasing plugins and tebex integration on a server in general. Expecting a server owner to put in hours of their time and gain no compensation for it is just silly. Now one thing P2w servers should do is make easier ways to earn the premium currency that their server provides. So that the players can easily grind the same things they can pay for. This is to make it clear to players that buying crate keys is simply and only to help support the server and not in any way required. Now servers should offer more cosmetic features than gear or armor or weapons ect however some servers try to apply as many things to make the player expierence as enjoyable as possible.

The way you went about distributing keys at the very end was very cleaver. Do you think you'll do that tactic again? It would seed trust toward your group and away from the server owner. Which would be a very large Win! even more so then just wrecking the in-game economy. Maybe go for the long haul and seed to players slowly over a month or two and keep a low profile. You also wouldn't need to dupe a massive number all at once. It would be progressive. You all would need 3 or so alts which are seeding into the economy on a round-robin/semi-random login schedule
