No, not "unknowingly". Jotaro knew perfectly what he was doing. Every psychological move was calculated. Even the fact that he refused to see his cards and just kept raising the wagers. The trick with the cigarrete/juice that he brought to himself via Star Platinum was not aimed to make D'Arby think that he had stopped time and switched the cards (even though D'Arby knew that Dio's Stand could stop time, and therefore conclude that Star Platinum had a similar, if not identical ability). All Jotaro did was aimed to plant the seed of doubt in D'Arby's mind. I.e. making him think: "could (Jotaro) be using Star Platinum to cheat?"

It's great. This whole interaction is GREAT! Imagine you've been given the knowledge of how DIO's stand works. You're one of the few people who does, so you're pretty confident in yourself. When he asks you to take down the Joestars and their crew, you think "Yeah sure. This will be easy." Then you find out that basic cheats just will not work with this guy. He's too fast, and too cautious, and before you know it you have a broken finger. So you pull some better tricks, call on "outsiders" to deal cards and give yourself a winning hand through seemingly legitimate means. You've got this and as you up the ante you see them get shocked. Surely they're going to lose. The poor guy hasn't even looked at his cards! Hang on, when did he get that cigarette? When did he LIGHT that cigarette that just appeared?! No matter. You're Darby! You've got the souls of their friends and practically have already won! You've just got to raise a bit to put pressure on him...and he just bet his friend's soul... That's a bit concerning. He's raising again who could he possibly have left...oh... *he's just raised his Mother's soul!!* The kid is freaking out, and he's gotten some fruity drink seemingly out of nowhere! What is going on? Where are these coming from? WHERE IS ALL OF THIS CONFIDENCE COMING FROM?!! There's no way he has a winning hand... THERE'S NO WAY HIS STAND CAN BE FAST ENOUGH TO CHANGE THOSE CARDS!!! Right? Then he demands you raise with something of equal value...and he asks for the info on DIO's stand. This is it. The confirmation you had dreaded. DIO is possibly one of the few people that can stop you. One of the few people with a cheat better than yours. An ungodly monster of a man who. *And you might just have someone in front of you in front of you who is just as much of a monster!* You just have to call the bet. You just need to call the bet and prove that you've got him beat. You scream in your head to CALL HIS BLUFF, but you can't move. You can't speak. You can do nothing but silently wail in anguish under his cold glare. You can't move, you can't speak, you can't call him. *It's as if you're frozen in time.*

Just realized, d'arby's wrong about the jotaro would have to change 5 cards thing. 4 aces just needs 4 cards for 4 aces(5th is unimportant), a straight flush would just require 4 changed based on the 5th(maybe 3 depending on cards, but I doubt it), and 5 of a kind would just need 4 changed based on the 5th. Going with his hand just being high card garbage
