My new favourite Zwift video on KZbin. Not because of the great editing and superb storytelling, but because of how Mark represents what Kaboom is all about. I'm not going to describe it in words as this video says it all. Thank you for sharing your journey and thanks for including Kaboom. Special shout out to Mark and also to Rob for joining the call just to share some good news! Ride on!

Ah Ryan well done made us proud 👍. One thing I’ve noticed is on the hills cadence drops way down (49) but on the flats you are at 85. You may have already done this but something to try is riding a higher cadence on the hills see if that helps with fatigue. But a great result 🥇
@RyanCondon9 ай бұрын
Thanks Alan. I'm slowly trying to pay back everyone's generosity by mentioning them in my vids. 🤣 You're right about my cadence. It's appalling on hills. I grind when I'm tired. You'll like next weeks vid I think. 😉

great ride mate 🤙🏼. gotta love that feeling of hitting above max heart rate 🥵and not ending up in an ambulance, makes crossing that line soooo much sweeter🎉👍. Agree with Alan drop to next easier gear and will help with that flow. took me ages to get out of the saddle. Thanks for the laugh all the best bro
@kjbull19 ай бұрын
Congratulations Ryan. As I’ve said before it took me years to do that. One thing I’ve noticed about your style of riding I would change. It’s not a criticism as everyone is different. All I ask is try it. On some of your climbs your cadence is as low as 48. If I were you, try increasing it to around 80 and see how you get on. I did it in climbing and sprinting and it works for me. Good luck with your first win over the line. Loving the content at the moment. Keep it up.
@RyanCondon9 ай бұрын
Thanks! I dont see it as criticism. I know my cadence is poor and it is something I'm working on, in fact its the reason for my video next week. Cheers for watching.
@ryancraig27959 ай бұрын
Yeah once the big climbs start I'm immediately looking for shorter gears so I can keep my cadence up. I'm more of a spinner than a grinder.

Congratulations! You did awesome, and your friend gave you good advice! You're right about losing weight. It is the easiest way to get faster. Add it to the hard work on the bike, and you will be C category before too long. I enjoy this type of start as a D or C, and trying to hang on longer than the others in my class. It's a lot more tricky this way, you have to choose when to back off before you self destruct, and then usually have to solo it, or get lucky and have a rider or two, while the pack is at your heels. In a category enforced D only race, you can sit in the pack and plot the best places on the course for your efforts. Usually climbs. But you can do other things. Like if your sprint is a work in progress, you can try longer efforts near the end, or try to break away if there is a hill near the end. On this course you could hit the gas on the last legsnapper, dropping riders and thinning it out (dropping sprinters hopefully :P ) and you'd have a smaller group to contend with near the end.

Stonking riding, Ryan. And you weren't planning to go too hard, but still pulled out all the stops and bagged a win on a very tough course. Super cool. It is nice to win on the line, and that day is 100% coming very soon, but, in an event like this with sandbaggers, the ZP win is just as cool. Mark is such a top bloke. He's an excellent racer, super strong, and I don't know if you could have a better person helping you out. You both worked excellently together, too. Well done fella 🥇🏆 Reference to comments pre-race about category enforcement (As disguised as Ds etc), a diplomatic video on the subject might go a long way. As a fellow D rider, I've worked my backside off to become competitive (FTP now 2.49 wpkg). It's unreal how many higher categories ruin a D race with their presence. It's not just that they are able to win at the end, it's that they elevate the average pace, meaning the majority are dropped early, while the rest have nothing in the tank to make any tactical moves; i.e. it just becomes a time trial. #SodTheSandBaggers Enjoy your videos and well done again 🍻

Epic Ryan 👏Big kudos to Mark for the instruction, very helpful for the next time I go racing. I hated this route too when the TDZ had it for Stage 5. You are right that you had to increase the participation within Zwift and if people watch you who do not use Zwift well I am sure they got motivated to join. I think what is most compelling is you are fairly new to cycling and a large guy all that make competing on bicycle very difficult. Although it seems in your most recent videos you are doing great at the weight loss. Despite all the reasons to hold back you jumped in with both feet. That is very inspirational. Perhaps time to throw in some videos on weight loss as you clearly know how to pull that off. Congrats on the win which was what I started this comment to do but honestly you are one of those posters that I never fast forward through. Oh and what is a power race. Is it where all categories are in the race? Seems to be a win equal to one with only D's although I guess it is more rewarding to win outright. In the Crits I did and I was in my 40s they grouped my age group with the young guys so same thing but on the road. If you can find some Crits that are on a good course you might have some fun. By good course some I have done only had a little bump in the course not huge hills. When you go against these guys that are 120 pound you just do not stand a chance on a long steep hill. But carry on, do not suspect you could ever get down to 120 as you look to be a big strong guy but as you drop weight you have the heart to do well.

@ryan we gotta get you sprint training. The kind of efforts you put in the zwift starts to 700+ watts need to be repeatable in training. This way, you still have a sprint saved up for the banner. You should look into getting into the Snow Sprints series, or any group rides where they go for sprint segments. You've gotta pull up with your hamstrings and hip flexors to generate more power. Better yet, take a dip into the tiny races on Saturdays.

Big inspiration and great KZbin material! A suggestion? You talk about winning a D race, (hope i dont sound rude) but a win where you dont draf a higher rider (as a goal) or in a D-team
@RyanCondon9 ай бұрын
I'd say that's more of a question than a suggestion but happy to answer as I expected there to be some questions over my recent videos involving help from better Zwifters. I've only drafted a better rider or a team, like in the Epic Race video I made, three times in races. Mainly to have them teach me race craft which has been invaluable. You have to remember two things, I never setout for this race and video to be a winning race, I had accepted an invite to join two other riders who wanted to ride with me. I made it clear that I didn't think I had a win in me. That was evident. The second is that people race and collaborate all the time. I see it in races, friends drafting each other to the end and then sprinting for the win. Id also say that anyone could latch on to me and draft aswell like in the race last week, loads used me and the Kaboom team to their advantage. I also raced the Big Ring last week with an A+ Zwifter coaching me the whole way, he also helped two other D's and a C who latched on. Because he helped draft them the same as me that other D went onto win which I have no problem with.... ... However to answer your question. 99.9% of my races are solo efforts like the Muckle Yin one and my amibitions dont involve winning with help. It's just a welcome break from fumbling along in the dark. Thanks for watching and commenting. 👍

Nice job, Ryan! The best I've managed in a race so far is a little better than mid-pack. I think our W/kg are fairly comparable, but your FTP is higher. You do have the advantage of being a bit younger than me (56), though 😂

Hey Ryan. Thanks for the comment. If you knew me a year ago, you'd never believe I was looking to get promoted to Cat C. That's the aim anyway. I put in a lot of hours on the bike and out running. Good luck in your training 💪
@ryancraig27959 ай бұрын
@@RyanCondon You've really put a lot of effort into your training, for sure. I'm not quite as dedicated, but I try. I'm definitely a little way from getting kicked up to Cat C.

Well done with a win although i understand it doesn't feel like a proper win as you didn't cross the line first. However it shows how great your progress has been since your first race (it could be your new favourite route, as no one likes the leg snapper haha)

Pen assignments are randomly selected by Zwift HQ. Nobody knows which cat starts in which pen.

Well done. One tip increase your cadence your grinding at low rpm too much you will find higher rpm easier

Congrats, great inspirational video, I was wondering what bike and wheels are you using in zwift
@RyanCondon9 ай бұрын
Thanks. Im not 100% sure. I need to check. I'm using a set a very good Zwifty told me to use based on my level and what's available to me.

Hey Ryan I want to give you a little tip (not trying to criticize you like you said in a previous vid) Try to get a higher cadans because the cadans you had on the hill wil make it much harder to hold that power you did while if you're around 90-95 it gets easier. I know this is hard for a beginner but try to get around 80-85 RPM. I myself am a cat (A) and not a native english speaker so sorry for the strange grammer. Nice race keep it up :)
@RyanCondon9 ай бұрын
Cheers Roeland. Its not criticism at all. I appreciate the tip. You are 100% correct and something I'm trying really hard to work on. Thanks for watching my friend. 🙌

Wow, congrats mate. Zwift power should just be integrated into Zwift.
@RyanCondon9 ай бұрын
It really should. This would fix the issue overnight. Thanks for watching. 🙌
@tombarnes26529 ай бұрын
nice one! though I'd maybe set a target of getting first on Zwift power without the dedicated tow rather than first on the road. (as the latter is more about if anyone dodgy turns up)
@RyanCondon9 ай бұрын
Nothing wrong with a max effort tow. I didn't expect this race to become a winning race and made it clear. I dont think I've been unauthentic. Even the thumbnail has a ? As I know it's not quite a win yet. Question is... Are you not entertained?
@tombarnes26529 ай бұрын
@@RyanCondon didn't say you were, its still a win. Just as I said above first on the road isn't a great next target as its more about if a zpower person joins or if someone is in wrong cat etc which is out of your control and may happen even more for you if others wanna join and race with you from YT.
