Hi Steve, you are puting stunning detail into the painting of this kit. I am only an amature modeler, but, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD do not use Tamiya decals, use Cartograf if they have them or store the model until they do. I live my life vicariously through other modelers on KZbin and have witnessed their tears when they have used Tamiya decals. Great content by the way!

Don’t worry Davis I’ve got some cartograph printed replacements on the way. I won’t risk the Tamiya decals on an £80 kit

Outstanding work-as always-Steve. It's nice to see a "realistic" amount of weathering & detail. All the other builds use enough panel wash and weathering grime to suggest that these a/c have spent the last 30 years on the Russian Front being maintained in truck garages in Lahore . . . .

Thank you so much...even though they are pricy, I am going to get them based on your recommendation...They have a 4 brush set (0,1,2,3) for $130. Will that do it or should I look for a set that includes smaller brushes? Thank you for all your help! @@TheModelShed

Hey Steve, when you wet your decals, do you use hot or cold water, does either one make a difference...thanks, great videos.
@TheModelShed
@TheModelShed Жыл бұрын
Warm water - not hot John - just so you can comfortably hold your hand under it. It does make a difference the decal releases from the sheet faster and the warmth can help relax the decal and start to help it conform.

I agree with the engineering of Tamiya's kits it is superb. Do you usually use a 50/50 mix for your paints? Also what air pressure do you use. One thing I did notice is you didn't add any nose weight, did Tamiya make the kit so none is required, if so that is a first that I know of. Looking forward to the next episode.
@TheModelShed
@TheModelShed Жыл бұрын
Generally I’d use a 50/50 mix but here I went for a weaker mix on the white over black so I could build the colour up gradually. For general work the compressor is set around 12-15 PSI. Other situations call for different settings such as on the Bf109 mottle but usually I’d describe this in the narration.

Love it man! Lord love you for making videos while you’re sick! Can you explain your strategy/paradigm for when you use contacta and extra thin? Thanks!
@TheModelShed
@TheModelShed Жыл бұрын
Hi Buckner. I use extra thin in ‘dry’ joins where the parts are brought together and the glue can be run into the joint using capillary action. I use contacta on ‘open’ joins where I need the glue to stay wet until the parts are brought together like when the fuselage halves are brought together. Extra thin would just evaporate by the time I got around the fuselage/wings.

The f-35s workings are top secret. One can't get near or photograph the plane up close. How accurate can the model be compared to the real thing if this is so. Just wondering.

It's funny really , every Country that has these jets goes out of their way to make sure it never fulls into enemy hands, but The Japanese build a beautiful scale model of it in every detail and lets eveyone know practically what every part of it is and does.

Dunno, every kit make seems to have a "defining" flaw. Tamiya's is their decals; Dragon in never making one thing but making it a sub-assembly of 5 or 6 (and then, being the wrong version; Airfix has fit issues; or, Italeri, where everything under the box art is problematic 🙂 . . .

And, I remain scandalized that neither Navy nor Marine F-35 have red edges on the gear & bay doors--to keep people on flight decks from careening into them in the twilight.
