I've always really enjoyed your take on putting together a knife survival kit, and I have watched your videos several times. I have applied a few of your ideas to include the vial of PP for water treatment. Just a thought here, what I have learned, is to take that vial, and pour out the PP crystals into another tiny zip lock bag, and then add ONE tiny crystal to the vial with water. That will be purple, but now I can use that vial as my premixed PP treatment and just take a stick or what I added is a coffee stir straw and dip it into the vial and then add a drop or two into the water bag and do that until I get the shade of pink I'm looking for. I've learned it does not take much to get there, nor does it take much to over treat your water as well. Doing it like this, gives me a lot more control over treating. Also, those bags are great, but I have found that when carried for any real length of time, they can develop tiny holes due to other items in the kit rubbing against the bags, so good duct tape is a must too for repairs. Something else I think I'm going to do, after seeing this video, is to take that vial, and first add a couple #8 fishhooks, split shot sinkers, and maybe even 2 or 3 Berkley Crappie Nibble bait, then a piece of cotton ball, then the PP crystals on top of that. Really, you'll NEVER use that many crystals in any survival situation. You could probably treat at least 500 gallons of water with that much PP in that vial, but now you can fish if need be, and a little cotton for fire starting. I mean if there's water to treat, the chances are at least fair that there's fish there too. Another thing I always try to fit in, is a small perfume sample vial filled with bug juice. Man, for me, that is a must have item in every kit no matter how big or small it is. I've pull it out of a kit, many times when I was out driving, and made an unexpected stop for whatever reason. I do love that idea for making a spear with that "L" shaped wood screw. I'm going to remember that one. Just sharing some thoughts here since I know I will have my knife, but maybe not always a real kit with me. I think knife kits are really underestimated in what they could possibly do. Keep up the great work.

Cool tip on the bags, good to know.....been many years since I had to shop the baby section :) Have you tried mixing glycerine with the potassium permanganate ? Also available in supermarkets....wicked spontaneous combustion. 👍

yes, it takes a second but it starts fire pretty violently. Its not that much permanganate so its mostly for water purification and desinfection.
