@@gemmabuzzerio1832 You are completely wrong. They co-wrote about half of their songs like Sweet Young Thing (Goffin King and Nesmith) from the first record and wrote many themselves Papa Gene's blues (Nesmith), also from the first record or Pete's Song (Tork) from the second. Also, Nesmith had authored hit songs (see Different Drum, Linda Ronstadt) prior to joining the Monkeys.

Check out these three new songs, The Getaway, Dark Necessities and We Turn Red from the new Red Hot Chili Pepper Album, The Getaway. It has a totally new fresh sound for them with pianos, synthesizers and female back up singers, combined with that classic Chili Pepper Sound. Great Stuff.

i forgot i had this on an old playlist. man it just clawed my heart right out when Mike began singing.... i met one of my best friends because of the monkees (way back in AOL days, 1997-ish when we were both kids) we never met face to face but she and i kept in touch through all these years. used to call each other and talk all night and into the dawn until the portable house phone would start bleeping because of their low batteries. I always wished i could take her to school with me just so i'd have a friend who loved the same things i loved. the day Mike passed away she sent me a message to let me know (i'd turned off my social media at that point) what's really odd is how i thought i'd heard every single one of his songs. but this one escaped my notice until fairly recently. i think it might be my favorite.
