When I redo my 57 pickup hard part for me is going to be finding a helper that won't brake my window. On keeping the rubber gasket on the windshield I find cleaning out the channel very thoroughly with wax and grease remover really helps and then use some 2-inch tape around the inner Edge as needed tapping the gasket to windshield. Nice video it shows that it can be done fairly easily with some patience.

A lot of people seem to forget that was the only way to install a windshield, at least when I was a kid. I remember an old glass installer cussin and complaning when he had a "GD glued in winder" in his shop for a windshield replacement.

Keith bertke I’ve already done the back, the hardest part is getting the rubber on the glass, try to put the rubber on without any soap, it’s a two man job, use soap or dawn dishwashing liquid on pinch weld and rubber pull in with a rope, hope this helps TJ

now try the same thing but don't bang on the windshield and throw the string away. place the windshield in place and use a wide blunt screwdriver in stead. simply follow the inner lip around two or three times by using your thumb and the screw driver by grabbing the rubber lip and pull inwards all the way around one pull at a time. This motion will basically suck the windshield in a little at a time and save a broken windshield.

You will love the silicone when you start final paint.

@@banjoshotrodshop39 as long as it gets cleaned before paint your good. You can also get an additive that you mix in with your paint that keeps your paint from doing the dreaded fisheye. You guessed it it's called fisheye eliminater. Awesome work, I enjoy watching restoration videos when the person involved knows how to do quality work. Mini Dragger thanks I was using a GoPro camera till my editing software took a crap, got it back in the shop yesterday going to finish getting all the chrome and bumpers on it, then tear it back down

hi , i have a 57 thats now in epoxy. i wana ride it like you ad paint it later. Is yours in epoxy only ?or primer layers ad bodyfiller? can i drive the car in only epoxy? thanks

mrtws63 I’m going use the rubber, it being new, you can work it back out, but it it starts giving me trouble I’ll break out the knife and go to cutting, I’ve got them out before, with new rubber on them

The seal is cheap the window cost. So I always replace the rubber unless you know it has be stored inside and not over 3 yrs old

Im doin the glass in a 57 pontiac right now. Does anyone know how to do those properly? The pontiac molding goes on first and is fastened to the car

I have a 57 olds and the front window trim is screwed and bolted.. I had to remove the inside windshield trim to install the windshield get to the nuts that hold the trim on.. I need some of the trim " molding" clips myself and have not found a place to purchase them...

my dear old dad was a 55 man but in 72 he bought a 57 convertable when we moved from Tulsa to Muskogee he sold that thing for 200 bucks and said he made money 2nd to last 55 chevy he bought he gave 50 bucks for the body don't you wish they were still that cheap hey didn't mean to ramble thanks for the trip down memory lane cant wait for your next video
