Agree they looked much better than the RMs in the early 90s. These RMXs turned out to be cool for a different reason here in draconian California.... My buddy had one and the VIN# made them possible to be registered for the street if someone wanted to do a little extra work. They made cool plated 2 strokes in California.

I had a 98 and loved it , bought it new ,, stock it would crawl like a 4 stroke up steep slick hills that was really unbelievable that it would make it ,, i put a pro circuit pipe and silencer on it , then it was like a do it all machine ,, i could loft the front wheel anytime i needed to and really just loved it ,, i thought about a 3 wheel conversion before i sold it ,, i have a neck and back injury at happened in 2000 after i bought it ,, i set the suspension really soft so i could still ride gas well roads and some trail stuff ,, i think this bike was very under sold , it was great. Came with a manual that illustrated full tear down for everything, swingarm and linkage was greaseable. This is the bike most people need and dont know it,, a 6th gear would've been a big boost

I had a 96 RMX in 97. It was great in the tight woods with a short wheelbase, nice suspension for tree roots and rocks, smooth power and a pretty light feeling bike. But it was a nervous little girl on a Motocross Track. Well, on a MX track, that is what the bike turned me into anyway. I replaced it with a milder 97 KX250 in 98. lol

Kinda funny story too. That was the only bike I sold using a model in the pick for "wheels and keels", or any advertisement. I met a good looking gal a week before, and asked her is she would wear a bikini swim suite and model with the bike, and she did. It was set at an average price for that publication and printed for 2 weeks. I only got one call; sold it to a Preachers son. :) True story.

They do they have just given up entirely on dirt bikes they only care about the GSXR models now and even that barely. They have made terrible bikes for so long they got very lucky with who raced dirt bikes for them a few times in the last 25 years that helped keep sales alive but on quality alone they would have died decades ago.

My friend owns the 1998 model (To be exact it looks like the 1989 with the plastics but it is the 1998 version of it). Pretty fast machine, But nothing that will scare you. The torque and mid power is pretty good but on higher rpm's the RMX lies down flat on the power. In other words ''Typical Suzuki power''. It's cind of heavy in general. The bike is about 120kg wet. Combine that with 40,3 rear wheel hp and you get a pretty ''mellow'' power. Still strong, But that extra weight is not helping in the power department. But for driveability it's awesome to have that extra weight. It's steady and smooth on the gravel roads. In my opinion it's cind of hard to set the best gearing just because of the WR gearbox. Either you get the longest f*cking topspeed in history, Or you can get the shortest first gears in history. In general, It's a solid bike. Not perfect, But still awesome in it's own way.
