it always amazes me the engineers couldn't allow an additional 1/8" clearance so that a normal size wrench could be used. I too have had to modify wrenches, shaking my head the entire time while doing it. Good information, thank you.

I standard needle nose pliers can easily move into that space to turn it loose. it is NOT a tight hard torque set. I have a pair of thin wire stripper...thin enough with teeth on the end. An easy and quick turn and it breaks loose. Of course if you are really hard up and don't have a slim needle nose set of pliers..then just bend a long nail across a 1/2 inch bolt. Slip the bend around the solenoid nut and they you go..you just made a wrench. (there are two flats in the solenoid nut!). See how easy it is to fab up your own tooling. No need to run down to the big box store looking for the impossible tool you will use one time. Roll your own, just like pawpaw did when he was building his house with his bar hands and digging foundations with a shovel. 🙂

I have never had a problem with one; so for some unknown reason to myself, I always thought it was a mysterious, absolutely ESSENTIAL part of the engine STARTING!! I HAD SO MUCH EGG ON MY FACE after hearing you say it had NOTHING to do with the inner workings of the engine! Thank you so much for bringing enlightenment to my life. I am 76-year-old female and I do all of my maintenance and minor repairs myself, but as I said, I never had a problem with the solenoid so I never had to check it out. Left me laughing at myself. It's not quite as simple as turn on the key and see if you have power at the fuel solenoid wire or if the plunger retracts or extends. You need to make sure all your safety limit switches are happy. Or you will still have no power to the solenoid wire. Like the safety limit switch in the seat and clutch pedal. If the circuits not happy you won't have power.

I’ve been to the Briggs factory School. And I will argue the fact that the solenoid will not cause flooding issues
@jimb178614 күн бұрын
Even if the solenoid is sealing off 100% fuel can still get into the crankcase if there is a needle and seat issue. The fuel will go through the low speed side of the carburetor. So the solenoid has absolutely no bearing on if fuel is getting into the crankcase. Its a needle and seat issue.
@monkeybarmonkeyman Жыл бұрын
I'm kind of curious... if you shut the engine off and the solenoid is not functioning, I should think the odds of the carb flooding the engine would increase. If the needle valve for the float is gummed up, R&R on the solenoid would reduce the odds of flooding occurring, yes?
