What I would love to see out of one of these reviews of the camera specialty phones, is how do these photos from a camera specialty phone perform in Lightroom editing for professional circumstances, versus something’s shot out of an iPhone. Would I buy this to take a picture on the fly, and go home and edit it? In a way that allows a lot more freedom than an iPhone or Google phone shot? I feel like that’s the real question.

So much promise... I think if Leica had been a bit more 'ballsy' in terms of working on / improving on all the short falls and spent a little more on R&D, etc. then it could possibly have turned into a classic / iconic mobile camera device in the sense that it would be camera foremost, communication device second. That and actually marketing it in other countries would help as well. If I had the spare cash, I would have really considered importing one! Thanks for a great review as always.

As always nice an objective review, i feel like the race many manufacturers have in this market is kind of hurting the customers, more of the same and some few aesthetical changes many times, like many brands doing the same in different color.
@kornkernel22323 жыл бұрын
Yep, the industry has been stale for a while, with pretty much little difference among manufacturers. It is safe and will guarantee more stable profits as long as they can do marketing good enough and reach affordable price bracket. But this makes mostly boring. Shame that to achieve that, you have to give more cash, like this Leica Leitz phone. Man that design looks gorgeous, and not another glass back phone. They didn't do it different just for the sake of different, they do it tastefully.
@andyH_England3 жыл бұрын
LG had your attitude, change for change sake, so called innovation that nobody wants. Of course, LG is a reminder that doing such niche different designs is a license to lose money and ended with utter failure. Safe is safe when that is what people want, and candy bar phones are now reaching their apex. That is good and people will just have to understand that in growth of anything, it is exponential slowing to iterate improvements. This is the state of smartphones and it is great for consumers in the mid to lower cost markets as they are getting more bang for their bucks as OEMs move towards this much bigger market compared to flagships.

Gotta say they floundered a great opportunity here. Between the poor performance and touchscreen woes, this phone will hurt even the most dedicated camera nerds amongst us. From a business perspective, if they had just asked any half-decent market analysis firm about smartphone cameras, they would get to know that the real competition is in the challenging light photography scenario. I can bring phone cameras from 2020 which take great fair weather stills comparable to modern day flagships. The market has moved towards more difficult compositions, albeit using ML/AI rather than the classic painting with light. I guess that's the fundamental miss both the Xperia Pro and this phone make.
@MrMozkoZrout3 жыл бұрын
Thing is Sony and this phone is made by people that actually engineer cameras for a different target group that is the most of the market. Competition might be in a segment of low light AI photos but too often the side effect is a picture that doesn't look real with too much HDR and sharpening or blown out colours. And while yes i agree that if Sony and Leica managed to make a camera with awesome natural feel and look and manual controls with competent AI assisted Basic mode, it would be perfect tho it's hard to pull off. I for one am super glad that there are companies that do things differently which sadly in today's smartphone market means not copying Apple. There is a pretty annoyed minority of people that still didn't forgive companies stuff like headphone jack too. The things that Samsung used to be good at until the S9 and before they became Android equivalent of Apple. These people are desperate to thing something to upgrade to that wouldn't feel like a downgrade.
@IchWillNicht01193 жыл бұрын
As someone who started photography with dedicated cameras, the "good enough" quality of modern phone cameras across a wider spectrum of shooting situations gives me less and less motivation to lug around the former for less-than-professional use cases. One would think that with the increasing prevalence of global shutters, backside illumination and high efficiency SOCs that at least some camera makers would introduce more computational photography aspects to cameras. No reason to ditch PASM and such but I think the much eschewed AUTO mode is ripe for a renaissance. What is happening now is we're seeing the convergence between traditional cameras and smartphones being led by the latter. I think we'll just see larger sensors and better optics and software from smartphones before Canikony Panalympus gets a fire lit up under their collective backsides.
@UltraFighter183 жыл бұрын
@@MrMozkoZrout I really don't understand this "it doesn't look real with too much HDR" excuse. If it constatly blows out highlights it doesn't look real either and if somebody wants, he can just take RAW pics with any modern phone but that's the thing with these phones that don't use computational photography, you waste time taking photos like real photographers and than waste even more time to balance images so they look like the ones taken by pixels, iphones, samsungs etc.
@MrMozkoZrout3 жыл бұрын
@@UltraFighter18 Yeah I agree with you, both have ups and downs tho I don't mean that it's supposed to look real, I mean more like natural. And while HDR is great for taking some social media picture it can kind of destroy your artistic intention with the picture. If you have dark shadows and yes even blown out highlight you can create pretty dramatic scenes in the way classical camera would take them. And yes I am fully aware of the fact that this is not what majority of people wants from their phones. I know that there is only small amount of users who like "toys" like that, but these people exist too and I am glad that company like Sony or this Leica phone do what they do. Like u know for example I simply don't care about social media and I don't really post much there and I take pics like I would with my camera when I see some nice scenery worthy of a picture, enjoy playing around with it. And I mean in most situation tbh it takes pics just as well as that pixel, it gets different really just in those situation like low light where instead of ai it uses long shutter speed which means quick new year's eve snaps aren't really that possible but that just a trade-off depending on what you want from your phone and it's one I am willing to make. Like you put it the way like pictures from Apple or Pixel were superior and I'd want to edit Raw pics to get that look but I really don't. If I play around with raw it is to get a different artistic feel but I don't do that much really. I don't say pics from those phone look bad at all, it is just that I simply prefer more natural look.
