So cool those old telephone relay technology. We use a 1950/1960 era Office Box for a Mining Museum to run all the Telephones on all the different levels and even the outside connection from the office. It's so cool to here the dial tone, it's made with a little motor with nibbles on it that close switches. And all the unselectors goes brrrrrr when you dial a number. Keep it on, its to cool to be forgotten.

Number 2 screwdriver and a pair of 81’s. That took me back to my days in a Strowger exchange. Many ,many years ago.

When I started teaching Computer Science at University an early final year project I proposed and supervised was a PAX based on an 8751 micro-controller. My student succeeded and got a first. But I much prefer the electromechanical version! I used his solution to build a PAX at home! It gets little use these days, but still works 30 years on.

I used an 8051 (non EPROM version) for my final year project too. :)

"Oh My Giddy Aunt " Blimey, havent heard that since my granmother was alive.. Anyway Sam. Glad you bought this. The 25th Line you should find hiding in the woods below. There was a Staff Locator built for this. It would be great to find a circuit. Id like to build one, it would be good in your museum too, with some clusters of three or even four lights, and a buzzer in various locations in your museum. There would be a specific Staff Locate Number, then one or two digits to select the colour code. I think Executive Priority Barge-In is already installed, but ill have to check. I have one of these too. There was also a 50 line version made which again was very complcated as it fast-forwarded round the uniselector to select the second ten and third ten, etc.. more copmplictaed than this one.

Really loving this shit, gents. Really felt for Mitch but keep the crack! It has a heroic quality.
@loopinnerthe9 ай бұрын
if you sandpaper the acrylic in a neat rectangle (with rounded corners) around the switch and dialer to include the crack and drill a hole at the end of the crack on the inside and fill it with superglue it will look frosted and utterly pro and wont crack any more. .. No even better, check your car insurance and see if your windscreen is covered by autoglass. If so call them out and the guy will come with that gigantic caulking gun thing and make an invisible mend. Or maybe make an opaque rectangular panel to cover over the crack and also add extra rigidity and again you will look like a pro. Anyway that is a such a great little exchange thanks you two for bringing it to life in the museum. 16 oscillators that can be mixed in 2 separate pairs....I think you could have a little programmable stereo drone device here.

I would like to hear the sound of that PBX from the calling party's persective, or in other words what the caller hears from their receiver (speaker) on a handset.

very cool. It would be nifty as a future project to add some lights on the various components to show their activity.

Probably 24 line because the uniselectors (25 contact) has a home (No.1) contact.

Easy way to stop repeated pushes, wire the button to a relay with a capacitor time delay, or a delay relay I think those line relays have a high speed and slow speed coil, the slow speed holds on during dialling while the high speed pulses the selector I think if you straighten the fingers of the relay switches, it should be momentary.

5:15 There is your missing line. If it was all fitted you would have 24 regular lines and the executive is the 25th.

I think a magnetic latching switch like they have in military aircraft would be perfect for this, but they're pretty expensive. Still, it'd be pretty fun. Flick the switch, dial, watch the lights, then watch the switch unlatch itself.

It might be cool to add a speaker to hear the dial and the ringing tones! Also I have a question: is the big exchange wired up to the internef yet? I'd love to give it a go from my phone!
