Brother, a few years ago I was invited to eat at a christian friend's house a couple of days after christmas. Of course I did not congratulate him and the food is not haram (it's just our traditional food and few other things). He said it is not for celebrating, he's just inviting to eat. Is it permissible to accept and eat at that person's house?

@lyrickoner11 ай бұрын
@@izzu_WBut the Islamic principle 'actions are by intentions' refers to Islamic actions NOT unislamic actions. In the hadith of 'actions are by intention' prophet Muhammad (sulallahu alayhi wa salam) mentions the intention of someone who makes Hijrah for the sake of Allah and someone who makes hijrah for the sake of some wordly benefit. And he mentions that the one who does the later will not be rewarded by Allah because his actions were not for Allah's sake. What you're saying has absolutely nothing to do with that because there is also an Islamic principle that we, as Muslims, cannot partake in the festivals and celebrations of Shirk. Think about it, going by your logic, we could then prostrate to an idol or drink alcohol IF our intentions were only to 'not offend non muslims'. But we can't do these actions because they are forbidden, regardless of our intentions. Our intentions have to be in line with what's allowed Islamically.

We in Indonesia do it a lot, even though so many scholars have forbidden it and told us why it is forbidden. This is mainly because as people born Muslim, we rarely even learn about our religion, taking it for granted as an inheritance. Secondly, we are a nation that values differences as we ourselves are made up of many ethnic groups. However, this tolerance is (probably) mainly due to mislearning in the 80s, where our education stated that 'all religions are good' which was later twisted into 'all religions are right'. I personally never said it, even to my best friend, when other friends congratulated him. And of course there's really no problem there... It's just that I regret that a phrase that doesn't mean much to our Christian friends actually has a huge impact on our Islam.

Subhanallah, there's another bizarre thing to add. In the English-speaking part of the world, there's the popular Christmas song that contains the following lyrics about Santa Claus: "He knows when you are sleeping, he knows when you're awake; He knows when you've been bad or good, so be good for goodness sake" These words are invoking attributes of Allah if you pay attention to them. Who is All-Knowing, whether you're alseep or awake, but Allah? Who knows your good and bad deeds, but Allah? For goodness sake? Who is goodness, but Allah? Na'udhu billah. The Christians in particular go so far as to calling Santa Claus the saintly name of St. Nicholas. Brothers & sisters, EVERYTHING about Christmas is shirk. Let us keep away from that which can consume us in disbelief and may Allah 'azzawajal keep us on the straight path. Ameen.

It's insane that some people still believe that Christmas has anything to do with Jesus christ [peace be upon him].
@EmilieSagae11 ай бұрын
Maybe I feel a sense of understanding because almost everyone around me is Christian, and I know how important this day is to them. My family have certain special memories of spending time with lost loved ones on this day, and it's a time where people might reconnect with extended or distant family. It encourages us to host people and cook for them, which can be an act of charity. The fact that family values in Western culture are disappearing, and at least this holiday forces them to come together for a day or two out of the year, means it's not all bad. And while gift-giving in this sense is not without drawbacks, it can also encourage us to do so in a charitable way, for example by giving gifts to neighbors or others around us who we might not often think of. And it's a good excuse to break certain social barriers in communities where neighbors aren't generally much of a focus.
@EmilieSagae11 ай бұрын
The 'common terms' for us and Christians would be that this day can symbolize/commemorate the birth of a prophet. So when we say Merry Christmas, we are basically saying "Happy day that a prophet your religion considers the most important messenger was symbolically born". We don't have to indulge in overspending, we don't have to personally associate any partners with Allah. We do not worship Christmas trees, and nor do Christians. Just like we don't worship snowmen.
@خواطررجلرباعيمحترم11 ай бұрын
@@EmilieSagae These things should be done in a continuous basis not once a year, And must not be connected to religion and prophet teaching when it's not. Can I make a school for blind and name it after you? And send press releases every year about your thoughts and ideas without discussing it with you? Specially that you didn't say the thing I'm writing about? Good intentions doesn't permit relating it to religion, In Islam we have something called Bedaa where you do something then relate it to religion when it's not and this is forbidden, and it has unpredictable effects in the future

I was one of those ignorant muslims that actually believed it was Jesus's (pbuh) birthday and just that they (Christians) celebrated it. BUT Bro...... I was absolutely DUMBFOUNDED when I recently did some digging on Christianity and its practices and found out That Christmas ACTUALLY gets its origins from a PAGAN ROMAN FESTIVAL/holiday (Saturnalia) THAT WAS CELEBRATED on the 25th of Dec. Basically the winter solstice was celebrated BY ROMAN PAGANS honoring the Pagan Agricultural God SATURN for the resurgence of the sun, the finish of winter and the heralding of the rebirth of spring and summer. This was then Hijacked by 4th century by Constantine and the Roman Christians to ease Roman Pagan for conversion purposes to Christianity. And they just willy nilly adapted it to their religion (something that has nothing to do with Jesus pbuh) and added Jesus's (pbuh) name on the title and today people are mislead to believe this is some HOLY-DAY. EVERYDAY STUFF LIKE THIS HAS ME SAYING ALHAMDULILAH (MAY ALL THE PRAISES BE TO GOD ALONE) FOR ISLAM

Verse 92 - It does not befit ˹the majesty of˺ the Most Compassionate to have children. Just read Verse 90. It gives me the shivers ! When you say Merry Xmas , what you are actually saying is that - I endorse your celebration of birth of the begotten son of God. I think another reason that some Muslims are celebrating Christmas is because the media (movies, tv, ads) portray Christmas where the whole family and friends are celebrating and everyone is happy and friendly, and perhaps some Muslims don’t feel that on Eid, especially when living in a non-Muslim country, so they compromise their own Deen to try and replicate that for themselves. Santa Claus is based on fourth century bishop Saint Nicholas who lived in Myra in what is now modern day Turkiye. He was from a wealthy Greek family and according to legend, he shared his wealth with people in need, including providing dowry anonymously (through a chimney) for three girls from a poor family. In France, Santa Claus is known as St Nicolas or Pere Noel. Santa Claus in the US was inspired by stories brought by Dutch settlers who referred to him as 'Sinterklaas' from where the modern name Santa Claus is derived.

I remembered that as a child, Malaysians celebrate all holidays including Christmas… you got to take into account the fact that our country is 70% Muslims and the rest are Buddhists, Hindus & Christians. then things changed after we learned that we cannot celebrate religious holidays of other faith. And that is fine… We hear & we obey
may allah guide people all to Islam ameen ..oh my loving allah

I live in my mother home town and all her family (her sisters, brother, nephews & nieces) are christian. She's converted when married my father btw. Her family here are so nice and kind to me and to my family....i often visit them and i love them all. Every christmas they tell me to come to visit and call me when im coming....but i always making excuses not to come. I just couldn't say to them "i can't celebrate christmas with you" May Allah guide them to the right path.

In North Europe they never changed the old Pagan Holiday name, they still call it "Joulu" which is from "Yule", the old pagan holiday on the winter solstice. The idea of Santa in that old pagan religion was a devil it was used to literally scare kids. The Tree is the only tree in the winter that remains green so they saw it as a blessing or something thus they would circle around it, worship it, sing, dance and later exchange gifts. When Christian came here in 10th century, it was changed to a Christian holiday.

My bootcamp celebrated Christmas 2 days ago. I stayed away from it because it's a pagan festival and also, not part of our religion at all. Few Muslims took these matters lightly and says 'Oh, it's just only a celebration.' Ignorance at it's peak.
