Very effective production right through to the end credit images. We have become so accustomed to ‘horror’ that it’s effect is mainly lost, but in those days it was new and the reactions within the audience when watching the ‘Frankenstein play’ seemed very authentic. Hi Alyne, in your intro you mentioned liking the Twilight Zone as a girl growing up...watching Twilight Zone was a special family event for my parents, my sister and I...every week my mother, sister and I would gather in front of the television to watch Rod Serling introduce the next episode...my father worked in a department store 5 minutes away from home...the store closed at 9:00, the same time the program began so that he would miss Rod's introduction and the first advertisement...but he would arrive home in time for the beginning of the episode...I would see him open the door and head right in to the TV room, taking off his white shirt and tie he would sit in his chair...one night I saw him walk in as usual at 9:05, take off his shirt and tie and sit in his chair...5 minutes latter I saw him opening the door again and take off his shirt and tie, but before he reached his chair...I looked quickly at his chair and it was empty!, then he sat down again. I thought to myself that I had imagined it all, since It was Twilight Zone time...latter on the night as my sister and I went to our separate bed rooms, I told my sister what I saw and to my surprise she confessed that she saw the same event...so this is what I think happened...my father had a problem at the store, so he was late getting home...instead of arriving home at 9:05, he arrived at 9:10... his desire to be home in time was so strong that he projected his astral body home, which my sister and I witnessed because we so wanted him to be there.

I like it. Good stuff and spooky too. And guest said, 'There are no crucifixes anywhere about the house'. Dead giveaway? That was a nice twist at the end with the Puppet Master or Marionettisist. They should have used a blonde wig to confirm the identify of Ilona's son. This one got to me just a little bit. The daughter remarked how her mother dreads sleep. How awful. For some people, sleep is the only FREEDOM that we know.
@grooverealizations Жыл бұрын
Hi Alyne, I watched "Night of the Marionettes" and enjoyed it very much. It appeared to me like a play on stage in a small theater, which I found delightful. It created an ambiance that was believable. The acting by the father and his daughter was superb. There was a scene that confused me a bit though, when father hugs his daughter tightly burying his head in her hair and she seems to reciprocate, then they both suddenly pull apart with looks of guilt on their faces. Was that an allusion to an impulsive unintended incestuous urge that they quickly realized was happening simultaneously? Did you get that at all. I mean, father seemed closer to his daughter than his wife throughout the fillm I thought. That was my impression on first viewing this film. I liked that part when the host with the white face mentions he was in a circus once, and mother and daughter try to guess what he was, then father says, "let me guess, a clown?" And the host shoots him the evil eye. The Marionette scene was intense, with the stop motion like movements of the actors. But I must confess, I had no idea what Mary Shelley staying at that inn in the past fit in? I kept getting her confused with daughter Mary and her diary that she kept so guarded. I missed the significance of the "secret" that father and daughter spoke of sharing as well. The host with the white face kept reminding me of the cabaret host in the movie "Cabaret" one of my favorite movies...All in all I really got into the film and will watch it again with my friend. Thank you for posting

Its surprising that Vladek Sheybal didn't do any British horror films; he could have been the Peter Lorre of English Gothic

I liked the film but I love the Lady. My heart is fluttering like the wings of a bat. Like Eros she has pierced my heart (with a wooden stake).

There's also a movie dealing with the creation of the Frankenstein story, don't recall the exact name; Gabriel Byrne and Natasha Richardson acted in it. Not exactly a horror movie, but had scary moments.

not a fan of this one. couldn't really follow it. costumes where brilliant, stage was very cool, and loved the props, but I was a little lost. I did enjoy the small silver flask the mother used to stead her nerves. I want to be that old lady carrying a small silver flask like that ♥
@themysteriousdomainmoviepalace2 жыл бұрын
Fair enough! But you should give it another chance once you have your flask. :) Have you seen a movie called Gothic where Gabriel Burne plays Lord Byron? Its about that writing party in the Villa Diodate.
