He's changing the harmonic structure of the song, probably without even realising it, and very much making it his own. The original sounds sweet and romantic, this one sounds kind of mournful.

The Beatles play it in F# minor. Kurt is raising it to A minor and then he's singing it in the lower octave and with a slower tempo. That gives it a totally different character. Then the guitar riff. In A minor, to be like the Beatles' he should be playing D-G-F#-E, but he's playing it G-C-B-A in the lower strings, againg making it more mournful. He's Nirvana-izing it. And of course Kurt's voice sounds nothing like Paul McCartney's.
