ASTAP is simple and fast. But even though it is simple it has plenty of features and lots of options. In this video I show how to stack HOO and it is really quite easy.
Some other great things about ASTAP is that it is supported on Windows and MAC. Oh and Linux or Raspberry Pi too. I will do some more videos of this soon because there is plenty to talk about.

Hi Ben, I do hope you are pulling through with your new treatment. We are all routing for you and your family. Thank you for taking time to post new videos, they are eagerly waited for and enjoyed. Thank you particularly for this mini-series on ASTAP. Like a lot of people I've used it for plate solving but never realised how feature rich the software really is. I hope you will be able yo explain how to organise narrowband data to be recognised by ASTAP, I use SharpCap Pro which organises data its own way. I am also uncertain how ASTAP can distinguish between the master flats for, in my case OIII amd Ha when they were taken over the same duration, gain, temperature etc. Adding flats was skipped over in the video to help with brevity. Do hope you wil be able to explain the processes for me. I wish you and your family all the very best for the future. Take care, Steve Nickolls

It's probably time I did an updated tutorial on this excellent software.

@@TheNarrowbandChannel Hi Ben, thanks for your reply. I think my issue is the sub frames don't include the filter names in their Fits headers. That's my fault not ticking a box in SharpCap Pro. For now I'll use DSS but for any completely new imaging targets I will be able to use ASTAP. I have compared DSS and ASTAP with some Ha data and ASTAP showed more detail in the fainter areas of the image. Take care. Steve

Thanks a lot. I just started trying ASTAP as an alternative for stacking (I've used DSS, SIRIL, Affinity Photo). Great video and really like the flow and mood of your content!

Thanks for the tutorial on ASTAP for stacking images. I've been only using ASTAP for plate solving and didn't know about its stacking ability;. I must experiment with this. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. - Patrick -

A bit off the topic from this ASTAP... I need your guidance to start astrophotography. I am currently using OM-1 and 150-400 F4.5 lens. Please share any information or your youtube link on how to start astrophotography. And great content on your youtube channel. I learned a lot. Thank you.

Start with a portrait lens. Maybe do some star trails to first. Those are easy and fun. To mount the 150-400 you would need a full mount to track the sky well.

Really great video! I think this is probably the only video of its kind without requirement of using Pixinsight! Though I was wondering about the usage of Flats and Flat darks. Do they just get imported as usual?

Looking to move from DSS to ASTAP, and found your ASTAP videos very useful! I understand that ASTAP are able to map different darks, at different temp to corresponding lights, but what about flats, if you have different flats for different sessions? 🤔 Thanks! 😊

I actually use the same flats over multiple nights. As long as you do not take you telescope apart you can and should do that. No need to complicate it.

I really like ASTAP but I'm having trouble with it recognizing my filters. I use the Asiair plus, should I assign a specific word or letter for each filter in the EFW tab in the Asiair example Red,Grn,Blue,Ha or just H OIII or just O, etc. changing it in the folders after I downloaded the data to my computer does not work. any insight that you could spare would be greatly appreciated.

You can change the tag that ASTAP is looking for in the stacking perimeters. I think I covered this in another one of my videos but cannot remember which.

Hi, I'm also facing this issue getting ASTAP to recognise (in my case) Ha and OIII data and associated flat files, did you ever find out how to input the filter data into ASTAP? Thanks in anticipation.
