WOW! Outstanding. I am looking forward to my retirement and Chiang Mai is where I have my sights. This was extremely helpful. Although i/ have visited before multiple times, as a tourist one really does not get a good sense on where one could live. Thank you very much and who know, maybe we meet in a bout 1 year.

Awesome video Tony, your video helped me decide where to look. I finally settled on a suburb of Doi Saket, just off of Hwy 121 and 1006. I rented a 3 bedroom 3 bath house in a quiet neighborhood for 22000 baht per month. I worked with Expat homes. I start Lanna Language on the 18th. I really appreciate your videos.

I know I'm very late to this video but I had been doing some digging around online for the NW Chiang Mai and yeah it looks really nice. Good condos I saw online there and a really nice Gym if that is important to you (GoGym Chiang Mai). Still waiting to make any big decisions till after I spend at least a vacation over in Thailand but it looks great. I was going to vacation in February next year but some personal factors have popped up so I'll have to postpone that enough 6 months or year. Thanks for the info as always and keep up the good work!

Thanks a very useful video. I've been trying to figure out distances and locations and this has been the most useful and straightforward thing I've found so far. I do have a question: If a person is looking to retire which areas would be better? Especially if don't want to buy a car, want to be able to walk for some stores and so on. any advice is appreciated. Not planning to do anything for a few years so don't want to bother an agency yet.

Awesome Video Tony, I couldn’t have come at a better time. One more week to go before touching down in Chiangmai. I really like the part about where to live and Farang market down south. Our daughter will be attending CMIS, for now I can only say north east but inside the circle or beltway. So I guess my house to be would be in the Doi Saket area. Not sure but will talk to you more about it later. Again, excellent video content.

Thank you for this video. We arrived here in Chiang Mai a week ago and I wanted to see elephants but so far the cost of seeing elephants is a tad too high for my budget. Your video is so helpful. I will go and visit Elfin farm & cafe. Hubby and I would be keen to meet other expats and we'll be here in Chiang Mai until next year. Just wondering if there are any organised expat group in Chiang Mai that gets together for either Christmas eve dinner or Christmas lunch?

Hi Tony, this is exactly what I was looking for. Two questions which you might find meh, do Doi saket and Mae rim have markets and other amenities so that you don’t have to go to the city much.? Second, what’s your opinion on santitham and San Sai locales. Thanks for your informative and helpful videos, liked and subscribed!
@TheNarrowGate Жыл бұрын
There are definitely markets that you can go to not a problem. On the second question I don’t have enough experience with them to know.

FYI the word “farang” is for a Caucasian foreigner only. You cannot use this word for other foreigners such as Japanese, African, Indian or Native American etc.

So?
@barberism242 жыл бұрын
So it’s “Caucasian market”?
@panakrite2 жыл бұрын
@@barberism24 It is just a market name, like for example "English Market" , it does not mean it is only for English, the word "farang" can also be translated to Guava. If you know Thai language well you will know that farang means Caucasian and Guava, you can use Thai dictionnary to prove this fact.

It describes a westerner -- typically a European, but in more modern times also extends to Americans, Australians and South Africans of European descent. Though the origins are widely disputed, one simple way to think about it is the term "Francais" -- pertaining to the people of France... ... moreover, someone with typical European physical features. Some sources claim that it is Persian in origin -- a word used to describe the Franks (more broadly, people of Germanic origin). It's not (necessarily) derogatory. It is generally a neutral term... but, the tone in which it is said can be a clue. If used in humility and good nature, a traveler might even self-apply it. However, if expressed in the context of something like "farang khii nok" (literally, bird-shit white foreigner) it denotes a western foreigner -- a stranger to the land -- who is rude, pompous, self-important and disrespectful to Thai culture. ... don't BE that guy.
