You can totally tell the players who play ice as well. They finish the stride and push through crossovers. In-line only guys short stride and step more. Both can be successful of course. I miss it sooooo bad. I grew up playing In-line mostly due to the lack of Ice in the Washington DC area. I was able to achieve huge things coming from an area not known for hockey. I tried out at 17 for the Philadelphia Bulldogs and the New Jersey Rockin’ Rollers in the RHI made the final Cuts and was removed when two IHL players came on. Played on the 1994 Tripple Crown Sports Disney World World Championships of In-line Hockey, took Silver after playing 4 OT periods and it went to a Sudden death shootout we lost on a coin flip. We thought we had four Shooters, so we planned accordingly. We went first and missed, they went and scored. It was over. Huge controversy. However, out of 252 teams we took 2nd to a team full of IHL talent. From there I had to work, hockey wasn’t paying the Bills and I never had any aspirations to play any higher than ProInline. I then made the Washington Power, Philly Sting and DC Voltage teams later on in the 2003 time frame. I was also a good grappler l, wrestler and Judo player and that took 1st stage after some issues with my ankles. I fought a lot for $20.00 a game.. No matter where I played at 6’3” 255 I was known for my speed and agility. There where many more small accomplishments with hockey when I decided to let it go in 2007 after skating started making my ankle feel terrible. I lost the fun. Today I can’t believe how many outdoor rinks are out there. I’m in WV now and Martensburg has 2 tiled outdoor rinks! I need both hips replaced. I had spent 4 hours a day on average on a tennis court playing in-line hockey or just practicing from age 10-16. Plus the Judo falls and throws. I have dreams of laying down the wing. I love ice but in-line on the proper floor and no resistance, great bearing and nice wheels… close to flying! I can’t imagine how the new sticks are! I shot close to 100 with an IDS zapped puck with an Easton Z bubble, with a sodden blade. I can’t imagine a $400.00 one piece!
