A 'Footman' is a male servant who is waits on at table or attends in a carriage. My wife's uncle was a footman to Queen Mary and rose to the position of 1st Footman. Because of his position and the fondness Queen Mary had for her staff, she held parties for them and their families. It was at one of those parties, that my wife, aged 7 months, actually sat on Queen Mary's lap and was bottle-fed by her!

Yeah York is more of an interchange station that any of the London Stations used to be as London was all terminii therefore it was easier to get a national collection of trains and carriages to York. Which is also rather more central to the UK rail network as a whole. And well worth the visit.

The Royal Trains featured are at The National Railway Museum in York. As was mentioned in the video The Mallard the fastest train in Britain 🇬🇧 a number of years ago after years of looking round the outside I finally got to stand on the footplate and my dad fulfilled his boyhood dream after seeing it visiting Grimsby when he was younger. A footman is below the butler and will have his own particular duties which has nothing to do with feet.

Ladies, Happy anniversary, you are awesome together and I love your videos... in answer to Natasha's question about a Footman: It was once common for wealthy families to employ uniform-wearing male servants. These 'footmen', (usually young men), served food at the dinner table, filled in for absent butlers, carried heavy things, and opened and closed doors. The word footman comes from the original job of a running footman - an agile servant would run beside his master's carriage making sure it didn't tip over. Earlier, a footman was a "soldier who travels on foot," rather than on horseback.

You two are an absolutely wonderful couple who are just the most loving married couple I've ever seen since my beloved late parents left this life for a better one. I wish you both a long and happy life together. My beloved mum passed away in 2017 and my beloved dad passed away in 2019 which I have never got over. I never got that special girl in my life so I dedicated my life to my beloved parents and lived with them till my dad passed away from cancer plus other medical conditions that my younger brother, myself and his doctors never knew about. My mum passed away from dementia, I was both my mum and dad's main carer until they had to go into hospital where they passed away. I am now registered disabled and my brother has become my carer. I am lucky to have my incredible, wonderful and amazing brother who looks after me, but I do have a beautiful, amazing, loving female in my life, she is my brothers American Akita who is the love of my life and my best friend as well as a major part of our family. Sorry for getting morbid earlier but my beloved parents were my life and talking about them is keeping them alive in my heart and my head. I do apologise for wittering on. Thank you for all the videos and reactions that you do to your Army of subscribers and your extended family, I have become one of those British Patriots who are now a part of your extended family and it's an honour and a privilege to be a new subscriber to you both. @@seanhopton. Thank you so much Sean for your very kind words, I am so sorry about the news of your beloved mum, my advice my friend is to have someone who you can rely on to be there with you either a family member or a friend to help you emotionally plus being there with you now and after the dreaded day when they join your dad. I was so lucky to have my brother who was with me when our beloved dad went to join my mum in the better place. Another piece of advice is always talk about them and talk to them, I felt great comfort as I believe in the after life and that I see and hear those that have passed over. I have been seeing spirits ( Ghosts) since the age of 4, I got this gift from my grandmother ( my dad's mother) and still have it. My dad's mother died in my late dad's country of the Republic of Ireland in 1935 from TB so I never knew her. When my beloved parents were alive back in 2016 I told them that when they passed over that they promised to visit me where ever I lived. They kept there promise and visit me a couple of times a week and my beloved mum still plays tricks on me as she did in life, she had a great sense of humour just like dad. I sense them and see them so I talk to them about anything including my brother's son who is at university, anything about my brother or what is going on in the world, like the Ukraine/ Russia War. I hope my advice and knowing that your family will and do visit you and will always be with you where ever you go or are. My respect to your mum and much respect and love to you and for the rest of your life. I wish that only good things come to you. The current royal train dates from the 1980s, though the Queen didn’t use it much in her later years - I remember she used it to visit Chester with Meghan soon after the wedding - but it’s quite expensive to get it ready for a trip, so for relatively short journeys like London to Kings Lynn (when she was travelling to Sandringham for Christmas) she would just have the first-class part of a regular public train reserved for her party’s use.

In Queen Victoria's time, for example, a footman was the servant who often stood outside a room - like the main salon door ready to open and close it when somebody entered/exited. They kept the fires fuelled during the day, lit the candles, carried heavy tea trays. They ran messages and errands before the age of the telephone. If something was broken or spilled the cry would be 'send for the footmen'. In very Aristocratic homes they would have a lot of footmen. Footmen would be more 'visible' than maids to guests. When the Head of the Household Servants, normally the Butler, opened the front door he would send footmen to open the arriving carriage doors and hold out a gloved hand to help the Ladies down the little steps of the carriage on to the pavement. Also take luggage/parcels from the carriage into the house and up to the appropriate room. He might clean the silver, filter the wine, serve the meals under the eagle eye of the Butler. If the family had daughters a maid, or a footman, would accompany them on the girls' errands/walks about town. They invariably wore very prestigious uniforms in the 'Household's Colours' and white 'itchy' wigs. They were often selected for employment for their height and handsomeness. Not for the reason that immediately might spring to your mind ladies, but to enhance the 'splendour, of their employer. If you let me, I'd go on nattering for ever, but I'll be good and stop right now. Love the reaction today ladies and 'Happy 19th Anniversary' to you both

Fantastic videos and congrats. Some untold facts and secrets for the royal train, having worked on board whilst in the presence of both the late Queen and Duke. OK, the royal as her nickname is known on the railway was decommissioned due to costs along with the royal yacht. The cost were mainly due to the fact that wherever the queen travelled, the train would shadow her movements covertly in case they needed an alternative evacuation route. The Royal Train is the only train when travelling would be 'green lighted' all the way, no red stop signals would ever be signalled. Second to this was the old Royal Mail trains due to carrying money which was brought about from the great train robbery. Now be under no illusion, the train is well secured and extreme security measures are in place on board. No window opening, armed service men, and I even remember when the royal train camped over night with the queen on board was for the opening of the commonwealth games in Manchester. They camped the train is a scruffy little sidings in a place called Eccles.....no one would of guessed Her Majesty was aboard, unless the bumped into the three SAS soldiers hidden in the embankments mmmmmm. Final thought, on board is not gracious and super plush which reflects our late queen - she was not materialistic however, the bar on board was the best well stocked bar Iv ever seen, a whiskey for the Duke and a dubonnet for the queen.

The National Railway Museum is in York. I had the privilege of seeing those in person a few years ago. The NMR also houses several famous locamotives, including Mallard, which broke rail speed records in it's day. Current trains (despite being diesel or electric) still don't go as fast as Mallard did under steam power. It's worth finding a video to watch about Mallard as it's all fascinating stuff! Also, if you ever come to the UK, there are quite a few steam trains still running short distances as private/charitable concerns. Most of them are running on sections of track that are no longer used for public transport. It's great fun to chug along those sections by steam and sometimes you come across a steampunk or wartime group dressed in their finery, which adds to the feel of it.

You need to check out the Royal Yacht Britannia which is now a tourist attraction in Edinburgh. It was de-commissioned in 1997 (terrible mistake), but was the last in a long line of such ‘yachts’ stretching back to the 17th century; in short, it was a floating palace with a crew of about 220. I think privately, the Queen was very hurt about losing Britannia.

Happy anniversary ladies before I forget. You obviously like trains - you live near a railway (railroad) and mentioned your fondness of visiting the Cincinnati train museum? As you like a lot of British stuff, I thoroughly recommend The Railway Man played by Colin Furth and also the film, Mr Holmes played by Sir Ian McKellen. The latter is beautiful and shows off perfectly Sussex (my county of birth) and has steam trains. Another one from yesteryear is The Titchfield Thunderbolt. It's a comedy about a branch line facing closure post-war - we lost so many train lines, it was a tragedy. Indeed I cry every time I watch it for the lament it represents of an England gone forever. Alas, it's a good film and figure you'll enjoy it.

The royal trains used to be kept at Wolverton works, Milton Keynes where I lived until required by the family. Now they are at the National Railway Museum in York.

Elizabeth's footman for 40 years up to her death was Paul Whybrew; his official title was "Page of the Backstairs" (he walked in front of the hearse during her funeral); She also had a dresser (Angela Kelly). Together they were the closest and most trusted of the Queen's personal staff; the trust aspect was the most vital part because these were the people who were with her on a daily basis, dealing with any household and personal matters who were completely loyal to her and that she had complete confidence in; they were not the sort who were going to be selling gossip to the tabloids.
