As a child I heard my mother say that we were related to the Downes and Bowen families and a relative named Allan Bowen visited our shop occasionally, she visited him when he was no longer getting around. One Sunday in March 2018 I saw his obituary in the paper and was shocked who he was related to, I knew one of nieces for years but never knew we were related. I had previously learnt that my mother's grandmother ( her father's mother ) was Mr Bowen's aunt, so Mr Bowen's father and her my great grandmother were brother and sister. His name was Harold Bowen, grandfather of the lady I knew and grandfather to our late Prime Minister Owen Arthur. I was told by my friend that Harold ( Harry Kite ) Bowen's father came to Barbados from Ireland on a ship, he was white, he was also a Bowen but I am not sure of his name but would be my great great grandfather. My mother passed 2 months ago.

As you can tell from my name I am also part of the Bowen family from St . Lucy. From what I am told , there are two Bowen families in St. Lucy. I would love to know Why.

I felt proud of Barbados and Barbadians watching this. Big up to my friend James Marshall (William) for pulling off that critical role!

This was great episode depicting the history of Bimshire with the Carolina connection. Please continue to do more episodes! The background was beautiful! hope in future episodes you let us know the “other slaves” that were brought over and the countries they were taken from. When you listen to the Gulah Geechee dialect it has a lot of Bajan dialect to it.
