"Why don't you sharpen it then?!" That line came from a contractor, working in Frank's home. He would mutter to himself and Frank overheard that little nugget. The guy was complaining to himself that a blade he was using wasn't sharp enough and then muttered to himself those words. Frank pulled little innocuous tidbits from wherever he could and incorporated them into his art.

Hey, Spanish is my native language, excuse my very bad English. Zappa is a world. His music is unique. There is music schools that teach about Zappa. I'm chilean, a chilean singer and producer did an homenage (that word exists in English?) with Berklee College of Music students (is an example only). Congratulations for discovered Zappa. Some people (me included) think that Zappa is so important than Bach. O sea, creo (creemos) que Zappa está a la altura de Bach en la música occidental. Hugs. Abrazos.

Yo Rivaldo, gave reactie man. Did you notice how well in sync Ruth on marimba and Chester on drums were and also Ruth and Napoleon on flute. Each pairing sounded like one instrument. When Zappa added Ruth to the band they got 10 times better.

Did you notice how Ruth Underwood mutes the bars on her marimba? This is amazingly meticulous.

The song is about Erich Von Danikan books claiming crop circles were made by aliens as landing strips in ancient times. It was all the rage in the 1970s that UFOs were landing all over the shop. Frank Zappa has many vocalists including himself George Duke and Napoleon Murphy Brock. Sadly the only video we get is the one which replaces FZ guitar solo with plasticine.

Most of his music is audios only! Today Frank Zappa's son Dweezil is making the live play with excellent videos, and like his dad using the very best of musicians. Frank Zappa composed non stop from his teens to his death in 1993. He produced his own music on his own companies. All concerts were unique. All songs were different, no compromises. 60+ albums by himself. Still new albums are produced based on recordings stored in his "vault". And very strange covers and music made by ex-members of his group "Mothers (of Invention)" makes the Zappa universe huge. Some pieces are not easy stuff. There is a video clip on KZbin "Steve Vai on Frank Zappa" (7:07) which gives a lot of understanding of the process. That song was later released as "What's new in Baltimore". Compare it to a song in the other end, from his first album: "It can't happen here" (3:56). And "Zappa plays Zappa" doing "zomby woof" (video 7:48). No compromises!

One short note to explain the lyrics: this refers to a guy from Swizzerland, called Erich von Daeniken, who made a big load of bugs with his books - in which he spread his allegations about aliens from outer space who visited mother earth and influenced culture, religion and civilisation in ancient ages. For example: those long straight lines in desert sands in southern America were remnants of UFO-runways; the "angels" in the holy bible were alien astronauts, and some other stuff in that way. All in all just bonkers.

I HATE HATE HATE this video! The music is so fantastic and the musicians play on a higher plane than us mortals. But the claymation ruins this video and hides showing the amazing musicians practicing their crafts. Ruth Underwood was a monster on the xylophone and percussion. George Duke was one of the greatest keyboardists of all time. Thanks for showing this! Frank Zappa and band are just now receiving the accolades they should have gotten years ago.

@@GoodCorporateRobot Not necessarily the best in the world, but you had to be a motherforya! The name The Mothers was so named because the players were motherforyas, but the label didn't like that so Frank added "of Invention" to it to appease them. Dig this though: On the first album, the name is very clear. On the second album, Absolutely Free, The MOTHERS is huge lettering and of Invention is much smaller underneath. And Frank designed the album art for that album.
