It’s not just about middle class. What does even rich people get in this country? Rich people pay high taxes too but taxes are not used to develop the country’s infrastructure and education but is being used for personal gain of politicians, build temples and statues. Air is not clean, food is full of chemicals, safety is a big concern, roads are not good, rich people are expected to pay big bribes for even basic things to government officials, women safety is an issue, laws are not favourable for men (alimony etc), country’s economy is declining, scams are at peak(like online arrest). There’s no point even for rich people to live in this country anymore.

well I was earning around 50k in 2010 and as the years went by I kept on losing jobs due to age bars and cost cutting and for the past 2 yrs I have a health ussue and no job because of heart problems, so I sold a property for 26 lakhs to cope with hospital bills and day to day life but the government and the bank are looking at me as a rich person, I dont know what kind of country this is, most of my friends and people I know were middle class but now I am not sure to keep them under middle class or low class cause people working on the roadside and even beggars and basically having the same income, so middle class is no more its only low call and super rich in India for eg a dustbin picker can earn 500 rs a day what difference it makes between him and middle class cause most middle class earn around 25k mark.............

We need to provide value for the taxes provided. Just taxing the ultra rich wont help too. Think those who are smart / capable enough to be ultra rich through their skill are also smart enough to leave the country too for better ROI for their taxes, which is happening even right now. Even the upper middle class is doing the same. The problem is that taxes provided by anyone is purely donation in India with no hope for return. Currently Middle class pays 30% Income tax and 20% GST, this means in a year 50% of the year a salaried person is working for himself / his savings / future / medical emergency, rest is just gone. This cannot sustain.

No harm in levying GST which has imbibed multiple taxes. But what is horrendous is the high level in terms of percentage. From salary, item is already deducted. From the balance, VAT on fuel for vehicles. Then comes As they call Gabbar Singh Tax. Pl calculate all the taxes paid from the salary and look for what is left in your hand. Almost 40-45% is lost already. Then life is to be lived with very little real income.

Well my dear Anchor, everything you say is absolutely true, the middle class are getting squeezed very, very badly, inflation is high, the value of the rupee has been continuously falling, there are not enough jobs, incomes haven't been rising in tune to the taxation levels etc....... But if the middle class are not taxed more and more, even on essential commodities like medicines, and two wheelers, public transport, and across the board, how will our Politicians have luxury bungalows, cars, free gas, big allowances, free travel by air and land, servants, free petrol/diesel, drivers for their cars, best of health benefits, pensions even if they are elected for just a day etc???? Think about that, and then you will realise why the middle class are being squeezed.
