Have you considered using a pin grid array for the USB connection then you would only need one cable and a set of pads on the tool head it would have the contact pins on the printer base then on the tool head some contact pads since USB is hot pluggable should work automaticaly

I like your build concept a lot. I think it's ideal there are a few variations available, as then people can choose whatever build works best for their budget and needs. I jumped in and started dong stuff before I knew all of the details, which means I have to do stuff again. Hopefully your proper planning gives you a smoother path.

I'd settle for a three toolhead setup. Three colors would give a decent amount of 'pop' for most of my designs, and would also allow printing with a second material type for removable supports. There is also the possibility of assigning one toolhead to an ERCF MMU to extend color selection for those special use cases.

I'm really excited to see this build as I think tool changers are definitely the way to go for multi-material / colour printing! The SV08 looks like a great place to start, and I'm interested to see a different approach than the already excellent work done by Michael on his channel. If I was building out a tool changer, I think I'd probably approach it like you, allow for as many tool heads as possible, but only build out 1 or 2 to start and then decide what I want next as and when needed - also it keeps the costs down and avoids a big-bang upgrade that might go really poorly and result in having nothing. I really like the idea of having heads with different nozzle sizes, allowing for fast printing with a large nozzle, then switching to a smaller size for the detailed bits... not sure how easy that would be to pull off with current slicers, but with time I expect this could gain more support. Finally, I know that the parts were received from sponsors, but could we have an itemised costing for those of us interested to follow the same route? Or at least "budget X dollars in 1 time costs to support multi-head (USB hub, gantry dock, etc.) then Y dollars per additional tool head" Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to the next videos

One thing to keep in mind with the CF impregnated filaments is carbon shedding. Pre and post printing, these materials shed a fair amount of material which is readily apparent under a microscope, even with engineering grade filament. I'm getting setup to print CF filaments and I'm going to test different methods of sealing (paint, resin, etc.) and see what works best and if there's any added benefits from doing so, other than stopping the carbon shedding.

I'm ordering an SV08 on Black Friday. I'll be designing my own 3D printed panels to completely enclose the printer with structural panels that should dampen oscillations while providing low density infill for thermal insulation to facilitate passive chamber heating and lower energy consumption. The top will be printed in four panels as well but they'll incorporate the risers needed for full Z height. The design will have a single clear acrylic front door with reversible hinges so it can open to either side. The panels will have tongue and groove assembly with 5 minute epoxy to make solid panels. I may make rear panels with mounts for fans to actively ventilate the chamber for fast PLA printing. Give me a few weeks and check Printables.

I love the community development. I've done a fair amount of The Art of Engineering in the past, but I'd love to be able to buy a solution, preferably with as many extruders as I want. I hope the development effort results in something practical that is more accessible to the larger community as opposed to a few people having tricked out printers. I'd be willing to 3D print some parts and install new SV08 firmware.

I'm finally ordering an SV08 on Black Friday. My small business prints a lot of TPU parts and the flying coreXY gantry design not moving the tall flexible parts should greatly improve print quality compared to a bed slinger. I'd love to be able to print 2-3 filaments, rarely for multi-color prints, but mostly because I have a future product line that needs a rigid base (ABS, PETG-CF, etc.) and a flexible TPU top, and printing a different support material would be very good as well. I don't need seven extruders, but 2-3 would be very good. I like the idea of quick swapping extruders to avoid the time needed to retract the filament, feed the new filament, and purge the hot end, with all of the wasted material that causes. I'm already watching the six stock extruder SV08 project at Teaching Tech, and I'm now watching this project as well. Hopefully, these community development efforts result in a multi-extruder product that upgrades the SV08 at a reasonable cost without days of hacking. I should probably invest the time and money on an extruder that is optimized for TPU, but we print mostly 95A or 98A durometer and stock extruders do a decent job with it as long as I do everything else correctly - filament mounted above the printer on a ball bearing hub reel holder, feeding directly into the extruder with no reverse Bowden tube, no excessive fast retraction or rapidly repeated retraction that can chew up filament, etc.

i've personally been very much looking forward to this project & greatly appreciate that you've chosen to use different hotends. i try to mark mine in a way that i can tell them apart at a glance in case i forget which i have mounted, though, which you may want to implement for ease of reference in your videos/streams - my memory's not great, personally, but i'm sure other viewers would appreciate being able to tell which toolhead is being picked up without referencing a cheat sheet (i like using manufacturer product logos where possible). if i ever get around to building the half meter printer i've been designing, i may opt to go with something similar & save the ercf for my v2.4, v-core 4, or vzbot.

I want use my Revo Nozzles in a new CoreXY printer and now I found your video that it seems to be possible to use them in that SV08. I prever the SV08 due to open architecture. Please come back with your videos to the Revo Micro nozzles - I do not see much others supporting it. But if you have more nozzles and understood the idea, then you would not give it up. Problem is: new printers are either closed Design (Qidi, Bambu) or open but expensive (Voron).

Just gonna throw this out there.. have you thought about using something like BIQU Hermit Crab as well.. so you can quickly change heads if you want/need? Not sure it would work.. but man I think it is one of the coolest things for single head printers that can swap diff heads or laser or what not. I have been wanting a 4+ head printer since the XL was announced, and the ProForge 300 (4 heads) looks promising.. but there seems to be little on that printer other than the makers own videos. But imagine a tool changer + a hot swap head system for each head.. so if one craps out, you can swap it.. or.. you can have multiple print heads.. but then have a laser or two set aside for those use cases.

Given the Nighthawk-36 recall, this seems like an odd choice -- or is this an updated version that doesn't have the temperature issues? I'd also love to see a BOM cost per toolhead for your build; I know you're on purpose using almost the highest end parts that you can get, but it would be good to know what that would cost us mere mortals when we don't get sent the parts for free :) Possibly even a discussion around why the individual components are an improvement, compared to a ~$100 Spartacus as specced out by Nadir. I watched as @TechingTech moved forward but the issue I could see from the start was a closed chamber dead end. Using Nadir's a modified raiser for the enclosure to add 150mm of height helps but there is also the issue of internal chamber heater and filter. Trust me, you will not be happy with an unheated chamber, corner warp really sucks after 5 hours of printing. It's been a couple of months, anymore progress?

The cheap USB hub is probably not reliable. I use the same one on my PC for various devices and often it disconnects and reconnects devices or itself.. Also, the connectors themselves are poor in making secure contacts, and I went through and re-soldered the poorly soldered pcb.. So if this USB hub does not work out, try an other one of a well known brand.. (yes, the Birds Nest is expensive..)

@@chrisstone8189 im in indonesia, ive contacted them with our distributor about an extruder motor that has its wires cut BY THE ZIP TIES in the extruder that SOVOL zipped, A nozzle thats fugged because of the petg thingy, i dont care about the nozzle cuz ive changed it with the bambu with a cht, but the bed leveling and the z offset was a bit too high and in the morning there was 3 huge cubes of fiament and my print has detached because of the inconsistent z offset, i tried to pull the blob from the nozzle by heating it, and i accidentally cut the heater and thermistor wire (if i didnt i would still be fucked because the filament has wrapped itself around them), I bought the sv08 because of thenextlayer's video and i wanted a voron, before that i was thinking of buying a P1s or the k1 max REALLY should have just listened to myself and get a P1s because my p1p has i think about 1600 hours in like 7 months and not a single issue other than the mistakes i made by using a coolplate setting on pei plate so they dont stick, 🥲🥲🥲🥲

How is that hypocritical? If anything, his connections are probably what pushed him to opt for the 'budgetless' option. If you wanted to build a car and Ferrari was offering you an engine for free, would you turn it down, or find a way to make it work?
@MoreToolsPlease
@MoreToolsPlease 2 ай бұрын
This is not hypocrisy, because hypocrisy must include a statement of morality that is then being negated by the speaker's own words or actions. This is simply a statement of fact (unlimited budget) that you misinterpreted to mean something else (I'm spending my own money) followed by feeling a negative emotion after learning that he got the stuff for free. If you happen to believe that KZbinrs shouldn't get stuff for free then that *would* be a statement of morality. One that I would then point out is *actually* hypocritical seeing as you get the content that our KZbinr produces using that free stuff, for free.
@MrTyton
@MrTyton 2 ай бұрын
Hypocrisy does not require a statement of morality - the most basic definition is the comparison of what they do vs what they say, morality does not need to be a part of it. If I say that you shouldn't eat candy because it will rot your teeth, then I eat candy, that is hypocritical, and there's no morality associated with that. Watching the video isn't free either, there are ads on the KZbin video, and the reason that companies give youtubers free stuff is for advertising and to take advantage of the attention economy. There is a reason that most videos are sponsored, because even if I am not directly paying for watching a video, companies make money from people seeing the ad in the long run - giving stuff for free is just a cheaper way of doing it, most of the time. Saying that it is unlimited budget, for the purpose of making it as good as can be, but then using stuff that is provided for free aligns itself to two different things - he's not actually using, potentially, the best things that are possible, he's using the best things that are allowed to be given to him for free. The statement of unlimited budget does have its own set of implications to it, namely that he has a monetary cost to putting the machine together, which is then violated by receiving most of the parts for free - I would be interested in seeing what you thought "unlimited budget" meant. If you get everything for free, then there isn't a budget, the budget would just be considered zero. I don't have an issue with him getting things for free for this build, but I do think that it should have been presented differently. If he had stated the prices, and then at the end said that he contacted the companies and got them for free, then it ends up with the same result but at a cheaper cost, but as is it becomes difficult to tell if the parts being chosen are because they are the truly best parts for it, or just because they were the ones that he could get for free.
