If you only come away from this video with one thing, let it be this: Doors.
Making FNaF animations over the past few years has taught me enough that I can now put what I've learned into words and pass it on. One of the most regular compliments I've received is from people impressed with the weighty movement I tend to animate the animatronics with, and the trick to that is largely in the sound design. I do have some handy techniques for the animation itself too, so I might make another tutorial video on that side of things at some point.

Additional tip: if your audio software allows it, you can also pitch noises up or down to align with the size of the object you’re animating. For instance, if you’re animating a large electronic servo, but only have a small one, you can pitch the original noise down and play with the EQ to make it sound like a much larger component!

This trick can also be used to get more mileage out of a smaller pool of sounds before it starts getting obviously repetitive!

I think it's neat that the different versions of the animatronics have unique movement noises, like the classics are a bit more cluncky and with alot of snapping while the funtimes are much smoother and clean, and the animatronics with wires like ennard and molte freddy have a slithering sound, it's very cool. 🙂👍

Its really cool to see this, I have been working on a personal project for a little over a year now, and when I first started, I made the footsteps for an animatronic. The sound is so phenomenal and I do not think I will ever make a better one. For sounds I used me shutting a washer drawer, a heavy box, a soft blanket, and my old bedroom door

Whoa! Some of my brain neurons just activated and made connections. I'm very picky when it comes to sound designs I use for my animations, I've mostly restricted myself to Fnaf AR and Security Breach sfx as I thought those would give the best results. But now I've seen (or heard) how more realistic it would sound when using home-made sfx instead. This time, I'll try recording my own sound effects, especially with doors. Really good video! Would want to see a tutorial for animation from you too.

I've been searching for various sounds I could record for a spring-lock failure audio. I want to try and recreate it from the movie. So far, I have a clicky knob from a toaster, a metal cat litter scooper, tiny springs from a plastic BB gun magazine, and some recordings of a creaky metal folding chair. I also have a coffee table that the top can extend upwards. It has big springs on the metal bars and sometimes they make a loud TWANG, so I want to record those at some point.
@TheNickofTime

Maybe look into garage door springs, or if you have an attic that folds down from the ceiling, that could work too. Just be careful not to actually mess with those kinds of huge springs directly, they can be lethal if they snap.

Well, I am already planning on making a dedicated video for Mangle, so that will naturally cover the Endoskeleton design. That would make a separate video for the Toy animatronics as a whole a little redundant, so I might lump them into the Mangle video instead.

Do actual animatronic sounds count like not just servos but pneumatics?
@TheNickofTime
@TheNickofTime 5 ай бұрын
Sure, everything can 'count' if it gets across the effect you're going for! Just remember that there's a balance to be struck between realism and impressionism, it's your decision as a sound editor what's most important to you. If you're making an animation showing off a model which has mechanical details like that, by all means pair each movement with the appropriate sound, servos, pistons, what have you. But if you're doing a chase scene or something similarly frenetic, having a sound effect for every single little movement can be unnecessarily cluttered, when it would bettter to just underline the broad strokes of the movements for the sake of clarity.

I don't really like the sound effects of the GR animatronics. Freddy appears to be lighter than he is, and the sound effects of his movements are simply generic high-pitched sounds. AR is better but has the problem that it only shows the sounds of the suit moving parts, but not the servo motors (with the exception of toys and Springtrap). But I have to admit that even though you're small, you're better at sound design than animators like Jaze Cinema, who simply reuse sounds instead of creating them. Glamrocks, for example, make creaking and popping sounds even though they are high technology (?)
