*REAL TALK* No offense to tyshawn… dudes talent and pop are crazy, but 100% Nyjah put in next level work, creativity, and undeniably deserved SOTY. Even as a guy who used to to not like the kid, you can only hate so much before someone’s talent slaps you in the face so hard that you wake up. That’s what Nyjah’s last part was. And anyone that says opposite is just living in their own bubble of hate. It’s crazy really. Tyshawn is talented, but this whole “he represents REAL skateboarding” argument is constantly being regurgitated by kids who have been skating for 1 to 3 years that shop at Zumiez. I’ve been skating for 22 years, sponsored at a couple points, and I’ve seen the industry change many times. @morgellon7877 Жыл бұрын
Not even. Mullen invented a lot of tricks, invented a new way of doing tricks that everybody does now, invented a totally unique way of skating street that nobody even tried to replicate until Johnny Giger like 25 years later. Nyjah's doing the same tricks people have done for 30 years, just on bigger obstacles.

@morgellon7877 Жыл бұрын
@@meat1880 I was really responding to where you said Nyjah doesn't skate like anyone else, equating that to Mullen. Mullen was strictly a freestyler until like 1990 or 1991; the first time most street skaters really paid attention to him was in Questionable in '92, his first street part (he refused to skate street before that), and most of the original tricks he was doing there weren't even attempted by other skaters for a long time. And Mullen continued to skate in an idiosyncratic style that nobody even tried to replicate; he's really one of the only skaters who I'd say legitimately skates like no one else. Pat Duffy's part in Questionable did totally change the way people skate, though. Nyjah skates essentially in that same style, just taking it to the next level, doing bigger rails and more tech stuff on rails. I think Pat Duffy might have been the first to flip into a trick on a massive hubba (kickflip noseslide) in Virtual Reality from '93. I'm personally more into Duffy's skating than Mullen's, and Pat Duffy was also really just taking the stuff Frankie Hill was doing to the next level, who was himself just taking stuff Natas and the Gonz were doing to the next level.

@@morgellon7877 good lord ok I read none of your reply you win
@morgellon7877 Жыл бұрын
@@meat1880 A lot of people call Rodney Mullen the godfather of street skating, but I really don't feel it's an appropriate accolade. He does deserve a lot of credit, especially for popularizing the flatground ollie and inventing the flip tricks he invented, but street skating was already well established by that time. Lance Mountain, John Lucero and Neil Blender probably deserve the title of Godfathers of Street Skating; they invented slappies, boardslides on curbs, no-complies etc. Mountain was acid dropping off over head-high roofs in 1983, the same year as Mullen's infamous Thrasher cover. Flatground ollie were also allegedly being done up curbs as early as 1978 by Jeff Duerr and his crew. He was the true inventor of the vert ollie; Alan Gelfand even admitted basically stealing it, as Duerr wasn't interested in attention. It seems crazy now, but it's important to understand that something like an ollie up a curb wouldn't have had nearly as much impact on skateboarding at the time as something like the McTwist would years later; it was only with the proliferation of street skating post-McTwist that the significance of the flatground ollie was beginning to be fully appreciated. Speaking of Alan Gelfand, he too can be credited as one of the godfathers of street skating for the simple fact he and Steve Rocco both invented the flatground pop shove-it (frontside) in 1979. They both were trying it over a 4-inch pipe laid on its side; Rocco landed it first, probably due to the fact of his smaller freestyle deck (his admission). And of course, Rocco too deserves credit as a godfather of street skating, as well.

I’ve had this same opinion. If he has to go through all the insane Gucci Louie supreme palace he wouldn’t focus as much on skating his classic shorts and gym shirt lightweight attire make it easy to focus 10000% skating notnsaying he doesn’t have Gucci or can’t afford it he did wear those dope salmon color ones on the gap to orange rail
