1991 was when skate turned into a more trashy mode for some years, but I really liked the World Industries Vallely-boards, great pop. Powell Peralta was pure happy skating, intellectuality, high end creativity and true grace 👌🏻

I think one of the overlooked causes of skating dying then, was a generation of middle school kids going to high school and quitting skating for no reason other than growing older and doing older kid stuff.

I own bones brigade reissues and my most valued boards that I owned as originals in the 80's and 90's were Mike Mcgill and Lance Mountains. Those were the best shape by a mile and they were both characters to go along with it. More than Hawk and Cab by a mile.

Some sad but true in there. I started skating in 85 and while Lance's name was huge in the industry those days, street skating was dominating, and unless you lived somewhere that had halfpipes, you weren't into vert skaters. Vids of competitions we had access to barely featured Lance. Cab, Hawk, Hosoi and a few others were the talked about vert guys. It's sad, his name carried weight but he was more a name than a skater to those not close to that scene. It's also kind of hard to reconcile that most of the people I grew up watching are heavily religious. As I got older and wiser, the less religious I was until I saw it for the hoax it is. People like Lance, Cab, Hosoi, Barbee and more have really grabbed onto religion. I just can't relate to them on that level anymore. Still awesome guys, who influenced so much of my life. I'll always identify as a skater even though I can barely ride these days. No hate, just some reflection.

I think a lot of people who have the fame then suddenly lose it go one of 2 ways - drugs and oblivion, or into the religious/enlightenment path. However, my days of lending credibility to what a skater says because they can do a 540 are long gone. Future Primitive was on repeat at my house every weekend in 1986/7 so I am not hating, either.

Slayer, Metallica and Megadeth and a stack of other old 80s so called "satanic" Heavy Metal bands are also Christians now...or maybe were then but pushed it aside at the time? Alotta people probably are believers but keep their beliefs to themselves because they'll get judged and labelled by everyone just cause they're out having fun and not "living" the so called humble meek stereotypical Christian lifestyle.

When talking about not being thrilled with the street skating scene, Lance says “I just wanted to be in the Dog Bowl with Alva!” As a vert skater myself, starting in 1976, that was exactly how I was feeling back then. Still Thrilled with vert skating, not at all interested in street.

27:00 he couldnt get into business with Tony as a distributor because he “didn’t think the same as him” ??? I don’t understand this at all and I wish they would have followed up on this answer, like what was the issue with Tony? He maybe wasn’t the Bible thumper that lance was, but he was pretty squeaky clean, and he had no issues being tight with Tony when they were on Powell together, but he couldn’t let him distribute his new fledgling company?? This doesn’t make any sense to me at all.
