Yes, his mother was dying and wanted her son out of Azkaban. So both parents visited him in prison, used polyjuice to have mom switch places with the son, and then mom took his place. @thepooper5544 Жыл бұрын
The second one is more interesting and visually appealing to me from a filmmaking perspective in certain ways, the CGI that's used is obviously inferior but the practical effects are really neat and they start relying almost entirely on CGI for stuff like monsters starting with the third film.
@cloyceshannonii3991 Жыл бұрын
I mean... popular opinion would PROBABLY say 1 and 2 are by far the weakest in general... BUT, in a 1v1 situation between book 2 and book 3, or movie 2 and movie 3, I think it's much more of a fair fight. Both 2 and 3 have fairly large future implications (which is why they are weaker... The following movies wrap themselves up more and feel like more cohesive stories, as a result) and either can be more appealing depending on your preference. The "Tom riddle" backstory actually turns out to be fire once you know more about the lore. The giant snake was creepy AF (which probably scared a lot of kids 😂) AND the movie was more of a mystery than any of the others turn out to be. Prisoner of Azkaban takes a similar approach on the "mystery" theme, but offers more of a true Sherlock Holmes like mystery, that ultimately falls short in the end... As it is a set up piece, much like AoT S2. AoT S2 was HATED by the fans for simple fact it failed to move the plot forward and only gave us more set up for future events that we had no idea of at the time. I think the series as a whole is slightly less interesting than The Hobbit, and neither come close to the long lasting appeal of Star Wars... but as a kid who grew up with these movies, I definitely enjoy a fresh take on the series every now and again! Keep it up, Pat! You'll love how it all ends 😉
@Arctic_Stark Жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the fan. If you are a book purist, movies 1 and 2 are the gold standard. Movie 3 is a huge departure from 2 in terms of tone. Also, the climax of movie 3 is much more emotional and not very cinematic, which is why it works much better in the book where things are better explained regarding the Marauders and their connection.
@MrFara0 Жыл бұрын
Chamber is better than Prisoner..I've actually come across more opinions that lean more towards that..
@Wannabe_Baby11 ай бұрын
I also think Chamber is better than Prisoner. Prisoner gets overhyped by the fandom. Chamber nails the kind of mystery and peril from the book, without cutting much out and it's darker than the first one before we start getting TOO dark. Prisoner cuts out the important stuff about the Marauders and the climax in the Shrieking Shack is also almost comical (Sirius shows up, then Lupin shows up, then Snape shows up, then Snape gets taken out, then Pettigrew shows up, Lupin CONVENIENTLY forgets to take his potion that day, Pettigrew escapes and Snape is CONVENIENTLY unconscious for all of this). Throw in time travel and it all makes for a very acquired taste.

54:06 Funnily enough, the Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher post likely *_IS_* cursed in canon. In a flashback in the books, Tom Riddle returned some time after he graduated from Hogwarts to take the position, as it would be the perfect spot for him to launch his campaign for world domination within the very borders of his enemies. However, while the previous Headmaster had promised him the role, Dumbledore was the Headmaster when Riddle returned and he could tell that something was very off about Tom, so he denied Riddle the job. In retaliation, it is rumoured that Tom Riddle placed a curse upon the very position of DATDA teacher, making it so that no person who holds the role can keep it for more than a single academic year.
@Arctic_Stark11 ай бұрын
What's funny is that Dumbledore is the only one who knows this for sure because Tom interviewed with him, but he either can't or doesn't want to remove the curse. I imagine he's like "yeah it'll be fun to have a new staff member every year, let's keep it going".

I love how you picked up (even by the last movie) that this specific teaching position in Hogwarts (Defense against Dark Arts) is in fact cursed. No one who becomes the teacher lasts in that position more then that particular school year. Which will become even more important in the future. Also, in a little defense of Ron, he was absolute a hole to his friends here, but remember he comes from a poor family and has 5 older brothers and a little sister who is the favorite child, so Ron is always stuck with being the last fiddle in everything (or at least he feels like it). And his best friend is practically a celebrity in the wizarding world. It not surprising then that all of Ron insecurities surface here, and he becomes jealous.

I feel between this movie and the last movie is where they really started doing Ron dirty, he's a much better character in the books. A lot of his immaturity comes from his insecurities at both being poor and being overshadowed by 5 older brothers and two high-achieving friends. The movies don't really go into it much and they start to cut out all the moments where he's brave or loyal or witty. What's left is Ron being a joke or Ron being an arsehole. In Prisoner of Azkaban in the book Ron gets detention sticking up for Hermione when Snape bullies her in class; in the film he jokes that Snape has a point. In the book Ron stands on a broken leg to tell Sirius he'll have to kill him first to get to Harry; in the film Hermione gets the line while Ron cowers in the corner.
@tibsky139611 ай бұрын
The reason is screenwriter Steve Kloves. He's a big fan of Hermione, and he's taken quite a bit of the highlights from Ron to give them to either Harry, and especially Hermione. In the movies, he also reduced Hermione's flaws quite a bit in the books, notably her often limited social skills, having often been a loner before having real friends at Hogwarts, being also an only child. This is seen in the first film, but after that nothing more. It was also he who instigated the potential romantic relationship between her and Harry in the films, where in the books, it is barely mentioned at all. There has always been love tensions between her and Ron, as if they were already an old couple before their time.

Book Hermione is ruthless, bossy, stubborn and so impossible to argue with that she puts a lot of people off, but not Ron. The films lost what made these characters and their relationship fun, by making Ron stupid and mean, and somehow making Hermione kidnaps-and-blackmails-Rita-Skeeter-out-of-revenge Granger boring.

In a chapter, the Golden Trio goes to Saint Mungo and meets Neville, who is visiting his parents. I wish the movies had been able to develop Ron's character a bit better, they include certain things you can conjecture from but I think for people that didn't already read the books it can be hard to fully understand his motivations/insecurities. And they also do take away a lot of his good moments. So also the balance between his good moments and dumb/annoying moments doesn't work out quite as well.
@spaceshiplewis11 ай бұрын
Magic is more dangerous than it looks. You don't just wave a wand and chant gibberish. More complicated spells can backfire or go wrong. Remember that Leviosa can explode on you if done wrong (like poor Seamus). Imagine what Expelliarmus could do to you, if you don't know how to channel it. However, Expelliarmus is basically a common non lethal defense spell. Harry uses the spells he is comfortable in because they are reliable to his skill level. More advanced spells like Confringo or Sectumsempra could leave you engulfed in flame or self lacerated. Dumbledore can use nonverbal spells and also forgo the use of his wand in some circumstances as he is a master in the wizarding arts.

The house is empty and kids love to throw rock or play around trespassing there so he thinks it was those kids that lit up the room. 16:04 The reasons because the person who wrote Harry's name is 1. above the age limit 2. Wrote Harry name as a student of a "supposed 4th school". 3. The goblet can only pick 1 student off each school and since there's only Harry in that made up school, he was chosen by default. 39:25 Shhhh let the guys that hadn't watch before concuting and deducing without pointing out hints or foreshadowing 55:47 1. It's not Barty Jr. 2. Nevel's parents got tortured by cruciatus curse to a point of insanity and both became crazy in St. Mongus. 3. That's why Nevel got effected by the torture curse and not the killing curse. Because his parents is not dead.

I always thought that the name for the school that he was written under was just another magical school and not one that was made up.

In the book, everyone believed Barty Crouch, Jr. was dead. It’s a big convoluted plot but basically his mother who was already sick and dying, visited her son in prison where they each used polyjuice potion to exchange places. Barty Crouch Sr. then took his son home at the behest of his wife. But Barty Jr. didn’t have free rein. His father used the Imperious curse to control him. He also had him hiding under an invisibility cloak. Wormtail knew all this due to another convoluted plot concerning a gossip-monger and memory charms. He told Voldemort once he found him in Albania and together freed Jr. from Sr. Then they kidnapped Moody and Jr. took his place. The End

The thing about the veritiserum is that it only works if the person taking it doesn't know they're taking it. I think the reason Snape just dumped the entire bottle down his mouth is because if they took their time to carefully drop a few drops than Barty Crouch Jr. would realized what he was being given and the potion would no longer work.

I think the point of having the Patil girls in relatively basic sarees is to not take away from Hermione's big coming of age moment. When she comes down the stairs looking so beautiful for the first time in any movie so far in which we think of Hermione as embracing her beauty and feminine confidence it's a very memorable part of this movie. The audience knows Harry wanted to go with Cho and Ron secretly wanted to go with Hermione so the point of making the Patil girls' dresses more bland represents how they are both Ron and Harry's second choice they defaulted to when time was running out before the dance and most other girls already had dates.

6:34 In reality, it's not that Muggles can't see because they don't have magic, it's that the people from the ministry of magic put a specific spell made to repell muggles around the important magical places in the world This spell makes anyone who doesn't have magic think about something else or change their objective as soon as they approach the location, in addition to, of course, not being able to see it

Godric Gryffindor put a spell on the floor of the Great Hall. The girls of Bellebottoms would spontaneously go uhhhhhh if they set foot in it and the floor would be lava for Squibs like Filch, that's why he was hopping. Gryffindor was naughty like that.

For someone who purportedly usually supports the villains, it's surprising that Pat doesn't seem to like *_Lord frickin' VOLDEMORT,_* the main villain of the entire franchise and the greatest threat in Harry Potter history. As one of the top Dark Lords in pop culture - right up there alongside Darth Vader, Sauron, and Emperor Palpatine himself - I'm surprised that Lord Voldemort isn't receiving support from Pat.

The problem is that they use soft magic but pretend it's hard magic. They learn all of these spells but for 90% of the magic use they just point their wand and blast someone or the plot revolves around a magical mcguffin

6:08 For the benefit of Pat, Navi and Rana might have already explained more off camera, but the Quiddich World Cup statium in the books is described as being in the middle of Dartmoor, taking a year for the Ministry of Magic to build, and having a bunch of charms to make it invisible to Muggles from a distance, as well as other charms that make Muggles suddenly remember important appointments or believe they want to walk a different direction so they never end up walking up to it. Similar charms exist around Hogwarts and also the Leaky Cauldron in London, being ignored by Muggles despite it being in plain view of the street.

"Did you put your name in the Goblet of Fire?" Dumbledore said... *CALMLY* . -from the book Seriously, for an all-knowing wizard it was pretty stupid on the film department to tense that up for dramas sake and making it feel *VERY* out of character for him to angrily assume Harry could do such a thing! Sure one could interpret that as fearing for ones safety considering Harry and Dumbledore's close mentor relationship for only 3 years but it still comes off as very forced and not needed for tension.

6:20 according to Rowling, there are 11 schools of magic around the world, but only 8 of them have been mentioned: - Hogwarts, in the UK - Beauxbatons, in France - Durmstrang, in Scandinavia - Ilvermorny, in Massachussets, North America - Castelobruxo, in Brasil, South America - Ouagadougo, in Africa - Mahoutokoro, in Japan - Koldovstoretz, in Russia Each one of them have their own particular way of teaching their students. For example, in Ouagadougo, students are teached about wandless magic from a very young age, and to become animagi. In Mahoutokoro, students start their learning when they are seven, rather than nine. And in Koldovstoretz, students play Quidditch not in brooms, but actual trees plucked right out of the ground

@@at_oussama So? Its probably just a massive one that takes people from all over the continent. Its somewhere in Uganda to be precise.
