@vindifference6 жыл бұрын
Korra, a newbie metalbender, cannot possibly hope to bend any decent amount of metal (a difficult substance to bend in the first place) when her entire body is firmly constrained like that. Both are factors to her not being able to do it.
@pattheman36866 жыл бұрын
True, but I have a theory for that. Boomie IS an Earthbender. I believe that a Bender's natural element comes easier to them. And don't forget that Boomie was also in Aangs generation BEFORE Aang was frozen, so he has over a hundred years over any current Bender. And just to add to the point, why didn't Korra just Firebend and melt the shit off her?? Because she can't. She's not as spiritually in tuned with Bending as other benders. And if you're going to say it's not possible to Firebend without your limbs, Zuko and Iroh did it. Iroh actually breathed Fire and Zuko melted the Prison of ice that Katara trapped him in by breathing intense steam. By that logic Korra should have been able to do something, except her own natural element is water, they were in a desert. Good luck Korra.

When I watched this scene, it made me realize that this is probably how Monk Gyatso killed all those fire benders when they attacked the temple. He just created a vacuum and sucked the oxygen out of the room so they couldn't firebend (which is why he died as well since his clothes are not burned) and then suffocated them by bending the air out of their lungs. In fact when you look at all of the dead bodies around Gyatso, it looks like they all just dropped dead at the same time.

Even in authoritarian powers there is still usually a control system under the figurehead. What really kills in case of monarchies however is the succession line. One of the best things about democracies is that, should the figurehead be killed or die prematurely, there is already another person in power instantly. It's likely impossible to count the number of kingdoms and empires that died with their leaders because they tore themselves apart after the leader's death.

Our executive is the commander in chief, the chief diplomat, and the ultimate authority of organizations like the IRS, FBI, etc. the executive also exists so that if there’s an immediate, urgent emergency (like a terrorist attack or something), there is someone with the authority to make immediate decisions rather that waiting for congress to debate and vote on it-which would take FOREVER, and that’s by design-Congress is slow so that only really important laws have the steam to make it through to the end of the process

She can't perform complex bending because she doesn't think that way. Korra's mind is direct and hard, like an ice club. she doesn't or can't or won't think stratigically. It's NOT who she is, so asking her to perform Bending like Toph or Aang is not only rediculous, it stupid. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't her avatar state be useless right now, due to her connection with all the previous avatars having been severed? I've always thought of the avatar state as a compound force, that's basically the total of all previous avatar's strength and combat experience added together. Unless the spirit Rava herself somehow can amplify bending strength, I imagine Korra should be just as strong in avatar state as she is normally. PS: I haven't watched the show in a looooong time and pretty much forgotten most of the details around it so sorry if this is something directly contradicted by future episodes.

Suraj, supporting the country doesn’t mean blindly supporting the president. If you think he’s a good president, that’s your opinion. But for the people who doesn’t think so they have the right to believe the country can do better and not support the president. Also, because of how our government is set up if the president died it wouldn’t throw our country into chaos at all
@lecoreytarpley92216 жыл бұрын
Mike Clarkson yea he thought about it wrong for sure
@jesusdenmark36646 жыл бұрын
Yeah. The U.S wouldn't fall into straight chaos because they lack a president. The govt. in U.S was made with that in mind. There are many other support structures in case that happens. That comment/comparison was rather silly of him. The U.S govt. is not a monarchy. I mean he can like their president if he wants. Just...say that.
@Vinlander956 жыл бұрын
Well it's one thing to not support the president, it's another to actively wish death in him. I believe that is Suraj's main point. Even though he may have been wrong on the outcome of such an event.
@SpockNRoll6 жыл бұрын
I mean, the whole thing with the VP is so that if/when the president dies, the country will still have a leader, right? I didn't understand that logic at all.

There are backups for the executive, but the founders knew that an executive is necessary because if there’s a matter that requires an immediate decision and action, the congress and Supreme Court can’t provide that. They’re designed to be slow to help stop abuse of power

Suraj (and likely most of the Normies outside of Hannah, Ben, Chris and Marketa) being a Trump supporter isn't shocking in the least if you've heard their pro-US imperialism rhetoric in series like The Punisher. Also, they grew up in Indiana which is a Republican stronghold.

@ignistheultimate57496 жыл бұрын
Tamara Hopkins That's a really bad analogy, though. The Earth Kingdom is a monarchy. The Earth Queen dying means there's no leader and everything descends into chaos since she has no kids. The U.S. is a democracy. Whether or not you like him, we do have a vice president who can replace Trump if he dies. If Pence and Trump died, we still have Congress. The President doesn't run the country by himself. Technically, Congress and the Supreme Court are just as powerful as the President.

3:36 I also think that a prequel series to follow up after LoK would be really sweet. Instead of Roku, since we pretty much already know the best parts about his past, the prequel could be based around avatar Kyoshi. It’d technically make sense since the next element after water (Korra) would be earth, even though we’d be going far back into the past. That way, we could see some background on how she founded the Kyoshi Warriors and her creation of the Dai Li and see what cool stories would stem from that. Those things were touched on a lil bit in the comics and it’d be cool to expand on it a bit. It’d also be neat to see how she shaped her attitude on killing enemies to achieve peace through true justice and how often that’s come into play outside of Chin the Conquer’s death. Also I really like Avatar.
@amansinghsarna6 жыл бұрын
TBH tho Kyoshi seems like the least complex and interesting Avatar just based on Aang talking to her one time alone lol

it's ironic that Zaheer believes very much in freedom, which heavily links him to the airnomads. Yet he is willing to kill an unresisting enemy if it favours him, making him the opposite of an airnomad. For someone who studied the airnomads just as much as him, he sure doesn't embrace their culture.

I watched ATLA first, then I watched Korra and hated it, but I realized I was being FAR too nostalgic in a show all about change and balance. I watched Korra again with an open mind after that and honestly, loved every bit of it, maybe even more than the original Avatar (: I still love Avatar (have both series on Blu-Ray) but I LOVE Korra the character. She reminds me of me as a teenager. Not willing to listen/quick to anger, but her change in book 4 and her struggles is what really tipped the whole of Korra over the edge for me. Her PTSD and recovery storyline is so relatable to me and beautiful.

The moment the wall fell people ran to the other side because the oppressed and downtrodden finally had a chance to level the playing field now that those living in comfort, complicit in the oppressed's struggle by their indifference, had lost their safety net. It's typical middle-class, American viewpoint to look at things and say "yea things are bad for some people but for the most part, things are running smoothly so let's not do too much to upset the status quo" while people struggle to survive.
@jinafitzgerald60456 жыл бұрын
Zaheer is about anarchy. And you don't really understand the concept. Anarchy is about initial chaos of "no leaders" and the future evolution of people, their realization that aggression is not the right way. Society will aventually come to peace and no leadership, no money, through barter and talking about issues and collectively acting like individuals, but not by the hand of the ruler. Zaheer was right, Guru Lahima was right saying that the new grove won't grow, until the old one is destroyed. Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk.
@Vinlander956 жыл бұрын
Eh, the ends doesn't justify the means. Anarchy is a shitty thing all around. Even if it somehow comes to a conclusion where people realize the mistakes and make a better society, it still isn't worth all the death and destruction that would happen in the interim.
@houseofaction6 жыл бұрын
wrong Zaheer believes in eternal chaos. he wants to make sure the world is in chaos for the rest of eternity no rulers just everyone doing what ever the hell they want until the end of time
@jinafitzgerald60456 жыл бұрын
T. Butler, sure, being oppressed forever by the government seems better
@Vinlander956 жыл бұрын
@@jinafitzgerald6045 I never said that. That being said I do believe having order and stability under a ruler, even one that may be oppressive in some ways, is still a greater alternative to outright anarchy and chaos. I'd rather be able to go outside my house and get groceries in a police state, than leave my house and get groceries with a strong chance of being robbed or murdered in an area where anarchy and chaos reigns. No rules or leaders are a horrible way to live. That being said, if a leader of a country is so oppressive that they absolutely must be removed, make sure you have a plan to immediately set up a replacement leader or council that is not oppressive, instead of just letting anarchy take hold.
@whoawhereami74356 жыл бұрын
@@Vinlander95 anarchism is not chaos... its actually a way to structure society. Insurrectionary anarchism is the Red Lotus, but they're the minority in anarchism as a movement. A police state is not worth the cost of repression, but neither are bandits nor gangs (true anarchists would be abhorred by them too). Revolutionary Spain and the Free Territories before the betrayal by communists are good models of what anarchists aspire too.
@mikkosimonen2 жыл бұрын
The Earth Kingdom doesn't need someone to "take over." It needs people to figure out a new form of government. Zaheer is basically right, but his theory is half-baked and his praxis is nonexistent. "Hey I decided for you that you're going to be doing anarchy from now on. Figure it out, I'm off to end the Avatar cycle, bye-eeee!"
