In case folks haven't noticed, it looks like we will see a lot of cool callbacks to previous seasons. The season premiere featured a word-less cold open for the season, the first since season 3. This episode is a "tribute" to Glenn escaping the walkers by hiding underneath a structure, like Maggie did here. A grenade also reappears in a prominent role here, a callback to the group escaping the CDC in the season 1 finale.

I don't think it was a lie more than the producers were probably inspired by that episode. That was confirmed with Episode Six of this season which gave me the exact same feeling I had as a kid when I watched "Home". It's amazing if that episode inspired some stuff in this season because it's still one of the most disturbing things I've seen on television. The Peacock Family is seared into my brain for life.

They couldn't let Gage in and close the door behind him because they wouldn't be able to lock it back; they weren't simply opening the doors, they were breaking through them. We just have to assume that the locking mechanisms weren't able to be fiddled with for whatever reason, either because of old age, because maybe the locks for all the doors were electronically and not mechanically set, etc. Also, I'm loving the development of Maggie and Negan's dynamic. Because they're so open and honest about their feelings since Negan decided to "not be dragged through the mud", Maggie and Negan can at least trust each other to not try to murder one another while simultaneously not expecting each others' help (unless they're forced to help, ofc). As soon as Maggie made her intentions and feelings clear, I expected Negan to behave the way he has (because he decided to cut the shit), and I'm happy it didn't cost anyone their life. The whole point of their confrontation inside the train is Maggie's emotions causing her to get a taste of her own medicine, leading her to want to trust Negan more for survival, rather than constantly disrespect him. That's also supported by her story about how she thinks about survival before letting empathy take over.

Just to clarify. Gage & Roy were the cowards that took the ammo & ran away & lost them. Which is why they ran out of bullets. Gage didn't close the 1st door behind him which caused the walkers to enter. The second door was rusted, hard to close & open. Maggie didn't think Gage was worth taking the risk to bust that door open. Sorry to the Gage fandom.

Also, let me say that Daryl was giving me some Rick Grimes badassery. He just barreled through those walkers. Heck yeah! But these Reapers are some serious bad guys. We're gonna need the Holy Trinity to come forth. That's what I call the team up of Rambo Carol, Ruthless Widow Maggie and the old Negan that was a heartless killer, with possibly a better crafted weapon than Lucille. That's the dream team. Those 3 on screen backing each other up and kicking ass would be so freaking cool.

Yes and no. She did mention that when she left Hilltop she found a community and every time she found one, it never lasted long enough and it quickly fell apart. People got murdered. She also felt like she was being followed wherever she went. These Reapers are no joke. I'm hoping the Holy Trinity will step up. Holy Trinity being Rambo Carol, the ruthless Widow and old Negan and his Lucille (yes I know he burned it but maybe another savage weapon like her ??). Imagine the three coming together and kicking ass. Heck yeah. That would be so freaking cool to see on the screen. Oh and no I haven't read any of the comics nor do I want to know what happens, but I like to let my imagination run wild lol.

Well.. Gage did run off with his bag of supplies and the other dude had a whole bag of ammo. He was a coward, but he was also a stupid kid who didn't need to be there. Also, people seem to forget that all these doors in the train carts were rusted shut, and they showed that multiple times the episode with all the other said doors. So I don't believe it was possible to just open the door, let the kid in and just close it again. I'm with Maggie in this one, I don't like it, but well... She's a hypocrite and so is Negan. This episode felt like it didn't make a ton of since in the walking dead universe. Like remember when Alexandrias walls fell and rick and his gang just went outside and massacred like a thousand zombies in an open town back to back? Or when they were clearing the prison or fighting alphas horde? They could use their knives to kill mass amounts of zombies, but suddenly they dont have the guts to take on zombies coming at them in single file in a subway car? And they use up all their ammo instead of just using their knives? Like it felt like the writers just nerfed everyone there to make it so they won't have ammo later on in the season or something or to create dramma. Like when did everyone get so scared of fighting zombies? The only thing I can think of that even remotely makes sense, is everyone has ptsd from the whisperers and are scared to fight them in close combat again, but maggie never even saw the whisperers. Idk, just seems really weird to me

I think that opening this door would have remained open, because Negan wanted to open it using a crowbar, not in the ways in which it would open normally. I don't want to find excuses for Maggie, but in the end, the kid ran away with supplies, and for the group's survival, he made the right choice, in my opinion.

My only complaint is that Daryl fired 15 or 16 shots during that scene of him clearing the train. I know that a lot of movies/shows disregard the logic of reloading and the number of bullets in a clip, but idk it seemed kind of ridiculous in that scene. That's just me nitpicking though.

Maggie and them didn't have enough firepower to take out the walkers that's why they were trying to get out the other way when Daryl showed up he took out majority of the walkers but they did not have her grenade until Daryl showed up so if they would have opened up the door for Gage they all would have been dead
