Fun reaction. If you remember DEATH NOTE, the same creator did a behind-the-scenes manga and anime about manga creators called Bakuman that follows the rise of a pair of manga writers. It's pretty much all like this episode, focusing on all the inside detail of the manga industry and tracing someone's career from start to stardom and beyond.

Fun (not fun) facts to show how brutal the manga industry is: 1) Eiichiro Oda the creator of One Piece, sleeps 4 hours a day writing and drawing One Piece 2) Yoshihiro Togashi the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter Hunter, suffers from chronic back pain from his mangaka career casing his notorious hiatuses. 3) Hiromu Arakawa the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist, said she wasn’t allowed a delay or break from releasing a chapter despite being so close to the 2011 tsunami 4) Gege Akutami the creator of Jujustu Kaisen, was so practically forced by Jump to put the story in a school setting which Gege despised preventing JJK from being a much darker series around the supernatural

Didn't Tite Kubo, Bleach's creator, also suffer from injuries that led to him rushing the end of the manga??

The gege thing is funny cause the biggest hater complaint is they watch ep 1 call it trash generic shonen and quit lol saying it’s another one overhyped when it’s the same for all the shonen they can be original but have to appeal to genre expected. It’s why later arcs of shonen are better. Also if you ever tried to get a story published all the complaints about not wanting characters changed or generic intros etc are due to the people buying or selling your idea requesting what sold in past or what they used to like and they don’t stay modern so they keep shoving the same ideas at us when the creatives get blamed and they are actually able to make creative stories. Some stories get ripped up and the original idea was so much better.

Masashi Kishimoto only went on his honeymoon after he was done drawing Naruto, which I believe was 15 years after he got married. Also, he has apparent difficulties drawing now. The manga industry is not kind on it's servants. Also fun fact, Masashi Kishimoto has a twin brother, Seishi Kishimoto, who is also a mangaka. He created 666 Satan (also known as O-Parts Hunter).

The mangaka has power over the editor I’m pretty sure, at least one as successful as Abiko should. If she put her foot down and wanted to end it I think the publisher would just have to take that. My guess is the reason so many manga go way beyond their authors had planned is that Japanese have a big “never say no” culture. It’s hard for them to outright deny requests without a good excuse. So they cave in to the publisher’s pressure.

The problem with cancellation is that you may not get a new series that will be as much of a hit as the previous. Also you have a cancellation and will have to compete with other artist trying to get a slot. Your wage isnt high and there is ither problems than a cant say no culture. Bakuman by the death note artist highlights it and that series highlights how they wanted to end Death Note but could not... so yeah... there are problems

Overworking manga creators need to take a rest and take a vacation for a while This episode reflects and takes on real life issues of manga creators it's really sad....

I think with One Piece it's the opposite,Oda is the driving force in why it's so long and the editors go along with it,at least that's what i interpret from the sbs and interviews.
@nichescenes4 ай бұрын
Naw he did a tell all that dispelled a lot in one of his interviews or something and basically said editors need to be switched with him as they fall in love with one piece and won’t suggest or edit as they want his story not theirs. lol unlike fans who all have fan canon in their heads of how the story in say jjk should go and get mad that the unpredictable series does something unpredictable by normal shonen patterns. Also he said fans think he’s a genius of foreshadowing but in reality he leaves some things open and when he sees a way to link he does and he also reads the wiki on his series as he said he forgets things too and they database characters he forgot about. Like Mr 7 I believe. He also got humbled by some live action choices as he put his foot down and had to be eased into the idea that some things just had to change. Fans hold him up due to sales but in reality he even said he edited out tons of more islands and ideas and has to hold back as he won’t finish in his lifetime. He doesn’t get pushed to make it long at all. That said would they really let him say he is lol. But he said he cuts things that would make it longer. It’s weird given some parts drag like egghead finale.

@@aritrasaha441 my bad I didn’t mean that I thought that. I read reddit post of complainers. Naw it’s fine I’m used to one piece pacing even dessorosa. Worst for me was that fish man one which made me quit an entire saga. Looking back I don’t know what it is about that arc since I like the themes. One piece wit studio should fix any pacing though. Hope it’s great. 👍

@@nichescenes nah its alright. Its not atrocious pacing but still not good enough for the times so its cool to have problems with it. And i dont even understand dressroda fishman pacings. They were so bad i watched in 2x. Hope i wasnt too mean. Didnt mean any offence just found it funny

@@aritrasaha441 naw I thought your post was funny lol. Had to respond. One piece is great I read Reddit too much like surj lol. They hate everything there.

Death Note’s author has commented a lot in how the manga was requested to keep going past the point in which he envisioned it ended by the editors. Even in the anime the quality of the second season feels off and is in a big part because the story was so popular the editorial house didn’t want to let it end.

Man Rana is so conflict aversive like damn let the mangakas let it out. Hope she's not like that irl because it just leads to more built up resentment

I read manga for the art style or if i want to finish the story. I start where an anime finishes then try to pick up where it left off, for instance, My Little Monster! That was a great read 🥹❤️

If you want a good behind the scenes series on the manga industry, Bakuman (made by the same duo that made Death Note) is a very good shout. If you want a good behind the scenes series on the anime industry, Shirobako is a pretty good anime.

Working conditions for Japanese manga artists were even harsher 50 years ago. One veteran manga creator used to work standing on a chair on his desk with his manga manuscripts on top of it, in order to sleep and prevent back pain Compared to those days, the working environment for cartoonists working on weekly serials has improved: ......However, it remains as harsh as ever.
