I decided to come as a refugee to Norway from Ukraine because I saw that there is low unemployment rate here. After several months of looking for a job, I guess that it is easier to move to US than to find a job in Norway, despite having good English and 10 years of experience in IT. Surprisingly, even to get a privilege of some toilet cleaning jobs in Bergen I must be able to write in Norwegian. PS: Thank you for giving a shelter me and my family.

Without Norwegian it's really difficult, sorry about that.

I have bad news for your pal, even with norwegian, german or any other local language, your prospects are only in the toilet cleaning or manufacturing worker. I think that after 11 months since have passed from your commentary, you have propably already realized that.

One of the most informative videos I have came across about Job Search, culture, interviews etc.(Not just about in Norway). Great break from usual clickbait videos who say the same old things. Happy to see careful explanations about why behind so many things to avoid while writing a CV. Tusen Takk, Karin og Werner!

Thanks for the video. I am probably too old to find a job in Norway, but I've learned more about the culture by watching this. It's funny about references. I'm so old that anyone I worked with during my career is long gone. I guess that's a sign that I should just go to Norway for the beauty of your country and the experience of being with such wonderful people as the Norwegians! Not a bad prospect, is it?

I am in the same situation age-wise I think (I am about to turn 58) so I think if I can afford to do so I will retire to Norway. I would, however, like to find an example of a Norwegian CV to look at in case I do decide to try for a job.

What I get from this is that I’m applying for jobs in the wrong country. Native Americans aren’t supposed to toot our own horn, so I word my CV and cover letter this way anyhow. It certainly explains why I keep getting passed over for non-Native positions. . . No birth date or anything like that, is illegal to ask in the U.S. What is ageism like in Norway for job positions, because many people start careers later in life in other countries than they do in Norway?

@@TheNorwegianSchoolThat’s very interesting. It’s no longer allowed in the U.S., to eliminate discrimination. Not just race or age discrimination, but you’d be surprised how many shallow people end up in HR and were hiring people based on whether they liked the way they looked.

It's great to hear this from a Norwegian. I am from Egypt, and all that you have mentioned regarding the interest in being "a human/a person" for the employer, applies across all our social life except actually the work environment which is influenced by the American way of "bragging" about skills and what not, and this causes many people who dedicate 100% of their lives to work leaving them pretty much lifeless to be further exploited by the business/employer. This is a very toxic culture. I am delighted to know that in Norway, the person is being valued starting from the interview and up to the work hours which are 6 hours/day as learned. Another very important thing is the language, in Egypt we have a grand emphasis on our dialect and culture because all our laughable jokes, memes, and fun come from our language (Arabic) and culture, and it would be very hard for a foreigner to keep himself stranded to his language and refuse to understand and learn our language to be able to get the jokes that we throw all the time. I am looking forward to immigrating and starting a new life in Norway, and I would really like to be integrated into society, have friends, and share culture, after all that what life is about and what is being human is all about! So it is totally understandable and healthy to say this about learning the Norwegian (Bokmål) language. I hope Norwegians are like this outside their workplaces, like how we are in Egypt.

Thanks for this, it's so useful! Just one question if I may, so it's recommendable to have in your CV all your whole experience even if it has nothing to do with the job you're applying for? For instance, one person is applying a waiter job but they have in the same CV they worked as a taxi driver.
@TheNorwegianSchool
@TheNorwegianSchool Жыл бұрын
I would put irrelevant experience also, but just very short. You can even summarize several irrelevant jobs if your CV gets very long otherwise, but you shouldn‘t have gaps in the CV.

Forget about it. 1. You have no work permit. 2. You do not speak the language. 3. Your degree is worthless, not officialy of course, but you can trust me on that. 4. Even if you somehow overcome the problem of disregarding your degree, they will think that you don't know the local laws nor standards for engineeurs, depending on your specialization field. 5. Your work experience is not relevant, nor are your references, as long as those are not from some company like Tata steel. You can try, but your chances are 1 out of a billion. You can first apply for some positions online, and see then for yourself, what is the ratio of replies.

so Norwegian act like less arrogant Swedes to me 😂 maybe not all Swedes I've only heard some Swedes sell it really hard, and the Swedes didn't condemn the behaviour of Hitler as much, this goes the same for some parts of Germany, but I think Finland and Norway is a lot smarter to keep its cultural community value intact from globalist culture. one day maybe I can confirm for myself if my assumptions are true to reality.
