Had this single on vinyl as a mixed-up kid. Never understood the full gravity of it but it still resonated with me even then. Years down the line and it’s power is still there. Major love and respect to Boy George for giving a voice to those disenfranchised by Clause 28. Growing up knowing your heart and mind isn’t naturally seeking what schools and society are teaching as “correct” was so isolating. The will of the state should never outweigh the fabric of who it’s citizens are.

I just discovered this song today by Boy George and honestly I'm surprised at how good this song is lol. I mostly listened to him when he was still in Culture club and didn't really follow his Solo stuff but after checking out few of his solo songs now I have to say he actually had some great solo songs too that sounds really different to when he was still in Culture Club. He is actually a versatile singer kinda underrated by people though but I always thought he had such a great distinctive voice one of my favourite male singers of all time!

@@Negostrike My country (🇧🇷) is actually pretty tolerant since the 2010s - I mean, a lot of other countries just got better when it comes to this subject at that same decade too. The issue is that there are some right-wing groups (regular right-wing and far-right to be more specific, i NEVER saw libertarians into this bs) that think any neutral or positive inclusive school material will "make their kids gay" lol I mean, they have some 'broken clock' moments: a few contents were indeed too graphic. But the rest? Only cute little stories (that don't even have kissing illustrations) and simple informative material 🤷🏻‍♀️ they overthink about everything, it's ridiculous - but people are slowly realizing that an orientation is not a "choice made after watching certain cartoons or reading certain books" but, indeed, an innate part of anyone's self! Now when it comes to Russia and theocratic countries... yea, their governors are really backwards and want their people to stay thinking like them even by force.

I only came across this song recently (I was still only 8 years old at the time when Clause 28 - also known as Section 28 - became law on 24th May 1988). The homophobic legislation was repealed in Scotland on Wednesday 21st June 2000 and England, Wales and (I think) Northern Ireland followed suit on Tuesday 18th November 2003. We well and truly have come along way since but there's much more to be done. It's also disgusting that in 13 countries alone we can be sentenced to death today in 2021 just for being who we are!
