I feel you on the virtual group work! I'm doing my BSN portion of schooling online while getting my ADN in person at the same time. We recently had to do virtual group projects for my nursing theory class & it was rough. People procrastinate, have jobs, and there is a huge lack of communication. It is not helpful in anyway!

Once you get pass the core classses the rest of the classes are an absolute breeze......well it was for me but I'm a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Neonatal NP.......sis.......you may have a valid complaint🥴 However stick with it! The time will fly by fast and you'll love the autonomy you have once you're able to practice! Great video❣

Hi Tasha, I’ll be starting my 2nd year of PMHNP school. How did you find your preceptors?
@TashaPsychNP2 ай бұрын
@larawright9260 I joined the student chapter for our state NP group. I also networked my @$$ off!!!! What I always tell students who are in psych looking for preceptors is to create a Psychology Today profile and reach out to potential people of interest on there.

I don’t usually comment on videos, but this really helped! I’m going to start college in a few months and I’ve always wanted to be an NNP, I really appreciate your honesty and being real! Being in the nursing field isn’t easy and is very competitive, watching this video gave me some perspective on what to expect when I go to grad school, thank you!!
@jeremyjones5140 Жыл бұрын
Hello Nurse Alexis. Thank you so much for your honesty throughout this video. I will also point out that for anyone looking to take this path of becoming an APRN, you will need to be a very astute and organized student if you're doing 100% online schooling. This is especially true if you are not well disciplined enough to get your work done on time all while being in your comfort zone. Remember medical students and PA students are not attending online classes which is why their curriculum is more challenging and rigorous than NP schools because it requires them to be alert and very focused outside of their comfort zone. NP school heavily relies on your experience as a nurse within a certain population focus which is why it's core curriculum is less intense than the previous two. You also will not be allowed to work at any capacity while in medical/PA school because of the intensity of the curriculum. I also love the fact you have over 5 years experience as a NICU nurse and works at a Level four floor. Do you have your RNC-INC? This is the exact type of experience NNP program directors/Neonatologists look for upon admission and during rotations. Thanks again for the video and you're going to be a great NNP!!

I just finished my first semester of FNP school and I agree 100% with what you said. Discuss post are just busy work. I try to see it as easy points to help bring my grade up or use these assignments as a cushion for if I don’t do the best on quizzes.
@JW-zd5ry Жыл бұрын
I love your honesty coz that's how I feel right now. Discussion Board: respond to at least two of your colleagues, and you have to react quickly. Assignments and quizzes in a short time frame; even though I'm self-paced, you still have deadlines at the end of the week, and usually, it's Sunday.

The first couple of semesters suck. once you get through the fluff classes and take the classes pertinent to your track, it gets better. Just finished my last core class and moving into clinicals. At these moments remember your “why” and keep the end goal in sight. Rooting for you 🎉

Get used to the group work. I have 2 semesters left before I graduate w/ my FNP. There’s group work all the way through. DB’s all the way through. There’s a reason why you are starting where you’re starting. The faster you adapt the better you’ll do. The more you’re “fighting” the process & the more negative of an attitude you have, the poorer you’ll do, the more negative experience you’ll have. Sure, the work is busy, but, if you embrace the structure of your program & derive the information that is being taught, you will see that you’re building a foundation. Also, nursing theory will be on your state boards. If you chose a good program (I’m guessing you did) trust the process, learn to find the gratitude in walking before you run. It’s gonna be a stacked field by the time you graduate. You may consider focusing on distinguishing yourself from your peers. Because your peers are out here focused. Many students don’t pass their boards on the first try. #PERSPECTIVE can make or break situations.
