Micah K so I should've mentioned this in the video because a lot of people have been confused about this, I haven't taken the NCLEX yet and I'm not yet a RN but I still work in the hospital as a tech

Ahhh. That makes perfect sense...OH! I read on the BON that you can get a interim (I think that is how you spell it) licensure working for a hospital if they sponsor you or something. I know that is valid for LVN but not sure about RN. Of course do the research but I haven't heard of it and I was wondering if you did it because I was so curious. Thank you for clearing that up and keep posting and how your progress is with the hurricane, you help so many future nurses get geared up for what is to come!

That logic of "patients first" kind of makes sense... but also not really. Who takes care of them? The nurses and the doctors. How are they meant to do that if they aren't fueled with food?

might want to put your name or initials on a piece of medical tape and put on your charger/wires and any ear buds because you could lose those to someone who thinks it's theirs.

I searched for this kind of video and yours was the first one up! Hi! Friendly backpacker and hospital worker here, Sterile Processing 10+years Florida & New York. I would definitely recommend a headlamp and batteries to accompany. Also baby wipes, they can go a long way to help you feel fresh and clean in the worst of times. I went to harbor freight and bought a small ammo can to store stuff like this in my locker. They're nice because you can put a padlock on the can in addition to your lock on your locker. It's my just in case shit hits the proverbial fan while I'm at work insurance policy. I keep headlight, small flash light, AAA batts for both, baby wipes , one pair underwear, two pair socks in there. I have a second box with toiletries. They live stacked up at the bottom of my locker. (Blessed to have a a decently big locker, it's something I always look for now when looking at new jobs- minor but important as we spend as much time at work as at home sometimes.)

I know this is really old, but I hope this helps you if you ever get into a hospital lockdown again: 1. Tide has some sink detergent packets. I found them on Amazon, so I don't know if any brick-and-mortar stores would have them (they're not at my Walmart). They are specifically designed to be used without a machine. Just soak, rinse, wring, and dry. In case your clothes start to feel gunky. 2. You can buy body wipes like those with mobility issues use at Walmart, Amazon, etc. Probably better for long-term washes and larger sections than baby wipes. 3. I don't know what rules regarding fire and cooking in a hospital are (gonna guess no-way-Jose but I'll tell you this anyway), but you can use Sternos to cook with, if the microwave(s) don't work or are swamped. Amazon also has some cross stands by Evernew you can use with them. Buy the stand and the $5 metal cup from Walmart to cook with! Sternos are great for cooking indoors as they are very efficient (no smoke, gas fumes, etc.). 4. Collapsible containers are great if you want the ability to grab more water, but don't have the space and/or don't want to bulk up too much with bottled water. That way, you can just fill them up at the hospital and upsize your water collection. 5. If the AC were to cut off, and it gets really hot and humid (not sure what the weather is like for you), spritzer fan bottles, the Chilly Mini towel, and USB rechargeable fans are awesome. I use them all the time at my work. 6. Hand-crank flashlights and lanterns are great for power outages (if and when your phone runs out of juice). No batteries, no charging, just some elbow grease powers those things. But the battery versions work too for shorter periods. Sorry for the wall of text; I just love researching things like this.
